My thoughts are in line with yours. I think Riggs did a fine job and he's getting better, but I knew it was the sort of episode that would have people complaining. They did a good translation of what went on in the comics without stretching it out, and I'm glad (comics)Man, some of the reactions to this episode really have me scratching my head. I really liked it. Even if Chandler Riggs isn't quite a strong enough actor to carry an episode entirely himself, it was still more good than not. It was an episode much closer to the pilot in terms of tone and visual storytelling than most Walking Dead episodes are, which is always a benchmark I feel the show should strive for.
I find myself really questioning what some people want out of this show sometimes if they are going to call this easily the worst episode of the series.
How did they episode end? My DVR only recorded 50 minutes and I'm not sure if I got the whole thing. Last thing we saw was michone destroying walkers.
Carl realized he was still kind of a little bitch, Rick realized Carl isn't as much of a little bitch as he was treating him, and Michonne tracked them down thanks to pudding.
I thought that was a pretty solid episode. Maybe because most of it was straight out of the comics but I really dug it.
it's amazing what you can do when you stick to the source material
If that's what happens when they stick to the source material, then they should ditch the comics completely.
The problem the show has had is trying to walk a line between sticking to the comics and doing their own thing. I'd prefer they did one or the other. Adding new characters is fine. But that doesn't mean that they need to skip over or completely fuck up the characterization of others. I really think they've missed the boat on both Rick and Carl as characters. I'm hoping they come out of this debacle as who they are really supposed to be.
Michonne tracked down Carl by smelling his idiocy from a mile away.
- Michonne had a stupid nervous breakdown that remains unexplained
- Michonne ditched her zombie guardians. Why? Nobody knows. Wont be explained
Okay maybe I'm missing something but I thought it was really obvious that...her breakdown was related to all the stuff that went down before she met everyone and caused her to be alone and she ditched her guardians because she realized she didn't want to be all alone again.
Bad episode. Bad characters. Please let them die.

That kinda explains it... and i havent thought it that way.
But i feel every time a character has a nervous breakdown is "Now? After more than a year and a half of zombie apocalipse and you decide to have another breakdown again?"

I think some of the issue is how they stay focused on 2-3 characters the entire episode instead of dragging their stories across multiple episodes. They could have easily mixed in the other characters scenes last night instead of dedicating an entire episode to Rick, Carl and Michonne. This may help with the boring archs or the feeling everything is being rushed to finish within an episode. Maybe have Rick wake up sometime the next episode.
Sometimes the dedicated episodes work (return of the "let himself go" governor) and other times it doesnt.

How come the walker that got Carl's shoe was so strong? it would seem that he's been stuck in there for a long time and we all know that eventually the walkers get weak, hell even in this episode we could see that the first walker they encounter is notoriously weak (just that rick was weaker and couldn't get the job done with the axe)
Anyway, fine episode, nothing espectacular, but I have a feeling things are about to pick up in the coming weeks.
Yay/nay on this being the new banner for the OT?
;P

Did we watch the same episode? Because that storyline was pretty clear. As in crystal.
I think he is saying that the reason for the breakdown happening now is not explained. That might not be cristal clear, but I think it happened because she just lost her second "family", triggering unpleasant memories of her past when she lost her first.
