In YB BL we kept Bay as long as we could even though we kept getting attacked from hod and YB all the time.

Hod never even bother to look at YB garrison.

YB basically capped all of our stuff in EB while HoD was sieging our keep. Then HoD kept defending our stuff until Bannok logged in and everyone flocked to EB to help.

Basically every server hates SBI.

Shrug. We can take it. Because no one else can. Because we're the real hero there, and they just don't know it yet. We may have to disappear this season. We may have to be ridiculed and hated. But our time will soon come, and we'll rise again.

Dang, didn't realize we were playing YB again. Think it's time for Sir Yakslapper the Grief Thief to don the blades and camp out their spawn. Going to be a good afternoon.

I posted this in the Take an absurdly obscure screenshot of a game - try to guess what game it's from. thread:

And nobody got it. :(

As for the next OT heading, why not keep it simple?

Guild Wars 2 |OT4| Join GAF on Stormbluff Isle - Missions Saturday 9PM EST - Make-up Missions Sunday 3PM EST - Mumble details in first post.

And then post lots of babyphotos of the misfits:

Hey guys, I haven't played GW2 for a while and just recently booted it up. It seems as though my performance has dratically decreased! Where I would usually have 45 FPS I'm stuck at 35 FPS now. Has there been some kind of graphical upgrade that I'm not aware of?

If anything, your framerate should be better - they've made a lot of optimizations both client side and server side. But it depends on when you last played - was it before the removal of culling? In which case, you might want to turn on Effects LOD in Graphics Options, and turn Model Quality Limit down.

It is pretty obscure for anyone who hasn't played Nightfall, and that is a decent number of people. (I know that's a Garrison in Kourna)

EDIT: Also, I noticed in the 3rd photo that we're looking at each other thinking "Surrounded by a bunch of puny humans again."

Yeah I'm busy playing through Nighfall now, and hoping I'm almost done because while I love how most of it looks, it's boring as all heck.

I think the next time we do a group photo, I'm going to find a location with stairs, so the Charr can stand in the back, then sitting Norn, then humans/Sylvari, then Asura.

Taking group pics when I'm not available for missions? Now that's just mean Mik.

Well, haven't decided on when yet :p

Surprised nobody posted this yet:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/256rp5/celebrating_ten_years_of_guild_wars/

Ten years ago - May 10th, 2004 - ArenaNet invited the world to join the Guild Wars "E3 for Everyone" Event. Held in conjunction with the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the event received a massive response. Gamers worldwide created more than 200,000 accounts to play the demo during its five-day run. The unprecedented experience allowed folks at home to play the Guild Wars demo with and against people on the E3 show floor. More than a dozen on-floor demo computers tied directly into the game server as the E3 gaming experience was shared with gamers around the world.

Here are a few of my screenshots from that event. It's hard to believe we first played Guild Wars ten years ago!

How much the game changed since those days.

For contrast, here's me playing it right now:

Culling? Don't know what that is...

Also another question about dungeons. Me and my girl play GW2 together. Are there any dungeons made for two players? If so, which ones?

Guild Wars 2 used to 'cut off' players and monsters a certain distance away, or if there were just too many models on screen, you'd only see up to a point and the rest would be invisible.

They removed that "throttle", so now you see *everything*, which can tax a lot of systems. Under Graphics options, they added Model Limit and Quality, try turning those down.

There are no dungeons made for two players, although some people do duo dungeons for challenge and fun, but I suspect that's not what you're looking for. The best things to do as a pair, are world events, exploring and Personal Story missions. There are plenty of people in the GAF guild who would be willing to team up with you for dungeons if you needed people.

Dungeons are designed for parties of 5 people. Maybe you two could try doing it only by yourselves, and that is certainly not impossible, but it kinda like a self-imposed challenge and can be extremely frustrating if you only want to have fun together.

Miktar - I remember that well. And I remember that event, had a lot of divided opinions.

On MMORPG.com forums there where dozens and dozens of people who where absolutely convinced that the game would shut down a few months after release or that they would add a subscription fee after you bought the game. There was so much. fucking. stupid. bullshit. about it.

In a way it's really sad that people talked so much about the no-fee. I felt that the skill system, the no-grind premise, and horizontal (magic the gathering) philosophy all got left by the wayside.
Plus, everyone was completely high over the heels for WoW.

Guild Wars always was misunderstood. Even here on GAF. If you search the old threads for the first game, I recall it was mostly Spike Spiegel who was really passionate about it, but that also has something to do with that Neogaf anno 2004-2005 had very little PC gamers. It was not a very fun time to be a PC gamer back then. Lots of "PC gaming is dying" crap.

Still I wonder, looking back at it all now, maybe Guild Wars benefitted in a way from being in the shadow of WoW. GW is still by far the second biggest after WoW. People just discredited it for the "not a true MMO" mantra. Bah.

I guess the proof will always be in the pudding. It's 9 years after release, and here I am playing GW1 on a Saturday afternoon and rather enjoying it, issues aside.

And it's rather busy too! Kamadan has three American districts going, 1 and 2 are totally full:

How far are you through NF, Miktar?

How far are you through NF, Miktar?

Let's see - I just finished that damn "convince the Princes at the party" bit, forgot how much I disliked that one, where you have to do the emote battle with the mime, drink all the drinks, teach a dude to /dance, fight some harpies.

Sure, you can skip large portions of it by just paying platinums, but I'm trying to save up money.

Going through all the campaigns again, so many years later, it's painful how much of it doesn't quite hold up. They're still fine, functionally, but they're really, really, rudimentary.

It's a HoD+YB vs third server week again. =/

Explains how they beat FA at least. Can't even muster up a BL defense atm.

Saw a "Failed the Tournament [SBI]" group earlier. I had more fun than I should in murdering them, squating their corpse and playing with my new drum. They can double team, and act cute all they want, but most of their players are still shitty.

Yeah but the majority of our forces tend to be lured by victories. It'll be the same for those servers and how they'll exodus after they hit the higher tiers but for now we're the ones that have to sit through the agony because even halfway dedicated but not quite hardcore players aren't showing.

It's a break week for me as well since there's no point getting all worked up over a game. It's also kind of futile with the people we have online compared to both server blobs on us when I play at roughly 2-3 in the morning server time. Both sides were easily fielding 40+ against us last night in EB and HoD even put up two sets of orange swords at the same time in YB garrison before failing and coming to wipe us trying to take Overlook back.

Dunno about engineers. But this is why I full zerk in pve.

Been slowly making an ascended zerk set for my warrior. Hitting over 10k on a lot of bosses, even the 80 stuff like hotw1. But I need to stop being cheap and replace the ruby orbs.

I am ready for #bronzeleague.

Is only allowing the lowest amount of players that one server has on a map for the other two teams as well a bad idea?

Maybe in increments of 25 or something.

Congratulations to Lump on the 79g Jackpot and Me on the 10g Door Prize (which, being the kind, benevolent soul that I am, promptly donated back towards next week's jackpot). Star Mie won the Door Prize Bonus (dye of their choice) in my stead.

Excellent missions as usual despite the Megaserver shenanigans and riding on the heels of another guild's puzzle. Makeups are tomorrow at 3pm Eastern / 12 Pacific!

I wish you guys wouldn't quote him because that's the only way I ever am forced to read his blocked troll posts.

You can say you didn't like it or that you were expecting something different from what you got, that's all fine, but saying the game was terrible is just blatant trolling.

What are guild puzzles/missions exactly?

There are several guild activities: Rush, Puzzle, Bounty and Challenge. Also Trek, but that's never done.

Rush involves being turned into an animal and having to navigate a kind of obstacle course.

Puzzle is like a dungeon (but with no real combat), where the guild needs to work together to open locked doors, solving puzzles.

Bounty involves finding and killing a specific Bounty NPC on in a zone randomly chosen.

While Challenge are varied events, like defending a fort for a time, or destroying certain things within a timeframe of each other.

They're fun: basically content designed for 40 players and up, that are all in the same guild. They're not hard, and you earn Commendations from them which can be used to buy neat things, like Ascended items.

You can read more about them here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_mission

Pokémon Parentage Conspiracy Theorist
Made a Sylvari Elementalist. Seems pretty interesting so far. I went for a really bright/yellow green that is more saturated and glowy in gameplay than in the character screen, but it's actually pretty cool in not-bright-daylight. I just wish I had brighter dyes to go along with it. At first I was confused because I picked Earth and had no Earth attacks, but then I saw you get them a little later than the others.

So uh, I can put agony resistance on non-infused gear (i.e. armor and weapons) if I use Fine level infusions right?

Or buy Versatile Simple Infusions from one of the golems inside the fractal lab for 75 Fractal Relics each. They give the same AR as Fine infusions without the tiny stat increase or insane material cost.

Yep, the Versatile ones will go in any infusion slot (offensive or defensive). If you're planning to upgrade your rings or backpiece into an infused version bear in mind you'll lose any infusion slotted into it so don't go crazy on Fine infusions on basic ascended gear.
Here's the wiki page on infusing stuff, if you have the Mists Essence already you might as well upgrade some before slotting infusions in.

I actually kinda wondered about that, because you'd need higher levels to get that one mist essence, but that'd mean you have agony resistance to begin with. Then I realized you can wear versatile ones.

I guess the +5 stat are pointless vs +5 agony res.

Looks like the Mumble server took a crap again. We'll get it sorted out ASAP.
wow, they're going to be losing a lot of customers this month!

I can't make mission time today due to Mother's day festivities.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there in and out of GAF, we literally wouldn't exist without you!

Looks like it's already back up but my log is full of connection errors since 5AM EST this morning. Honestly I'd sign up with a new provider today if it wasn't for the fact that there's still quite a bit of money in the account from generous GAFguild members who chipped in.

As soon as that's used up though, bam. We're getting a new Mumble server.
