Hyrule Warriors coming out on August 14 in Japan [Up: Famitsu Images]

Can't decipher much new from the rest of the scans (will get + read the magazine hopefully on Friday), but Lanayru Gorge is one of the stages (not sure if that's been mentioned). Also, the two pictures in the right hand upper corner, the one including what might be Skyloft, are artwork, not screenshots.

Hmm, that was the one area in Skyward Sword I actually kinda liked.

please don't let this point to a ss prequel PLEASE

Did Skyloft ever return to it's natural resting place or is it still suspended in the air?

I think it was still in the air? I recall a scene where Groose and his buddies flew up on their Loftwings at the ending.

no it didn't.
Uhh... Yes it did. You don't know what you're talking about.
What major parts exactly? A scarf and a shoulder gard? Cause I just flipped though it, and if anything it contradicts Hyrule Warriors. As a run-down here's some major points from the non-canon pre-SS Manga, followed by major points we know of in HW.

SS manga

-Link is mistakenly imprisoned.
-Link wears a torn red cape, gold shoulder guards, and a torn green tunic.
-Loftwings and Hylia are present.
-The land is called "The Land of Hylia".
-The people are in a war with Demise.
-The Dragons from SS are present.
-Link defeats Demise, and raises Skyloft using the Master Sword. This contradicts SS, as the prologue of the game states that Hylia rose Skyloft using the Goddess Sword and Goddess Harp.
-There is no Princess Zelda
-Link dies at the end.

HW

-Link is a solider-in-training.
-Link wears a intact blue scarf, a intact green tunic with chain-mail, and silver shoulder guards.
-There's a Princess Zelda.
-The land is called Hyrule.
-There's a witch named Shia, who apparently has a crush on Link.
-There has been no indication of Loftwings, SS Dragons, Demise, or Hylia.
-There is a very high likely-hood Link won't die at the end.
The Scarf and Skyloft, as well as the master sword

I'm bothered by this association, you said as if it's a characteristics and not a stereotype.

That's what I meant.
Basically, she looks like a stereotype of a generic anime villainous. She's got impractical cleavage, she looks like a Japanese pop starlet, and her costume is really silly. :/
I'm not a big fan of this character's aesthetic. Anouma should have upended the tea table on her design.
I'm warming up to the red guy though. Maybe it's because of the gameXplain video, I'm not sure.
:p

Oh please let her be.

I hate to derail the thread with this but can you give some examples of how Other M retconned other Metroid games? I've played every Metroid several times and can't think of anything.

I wonder how accessible this game will be to players new to the genre. I'd imagine many Zelda fans who have never played a Musou game will be getting this. Could be a turn-off if the genre is not welcoming to newcomers or if the difficulty is brutal.

Metroid Prime Trilogy seemingly doesn't exist but just put it after the game and everything is fine.

It will be a turn off when they start at the normal difficulty and realize the enemies are briand dead. They will think "omg this is just a repetitive button masher" as many people think about the musou franchise. (Not that it isnt in higher difficulties to some extent, but you cant just dive into battles mindlessly in harder difficulties)

Space Pirates and how they function, Ridley, how Samus reacts to major plot twists in Fusion, Samus's relationship with the Chozo, the ending of Super Metroid, I could go on and on.

I don't want to be a part of this "discussion", but is this how you "discuss" things? I've noticed in the Smash thread and this thread.

You didn't even bother to explain your point (the burden is on you since you said it did retcon most of the past games). One would think you would provide examples, but you didn't at all. EDIT: Now you did (doesn't make your earlier response any better), but your examples seem to be needing more of an explanation.

Then you just say "you don't know what you're talking about" to the poster you're replying to. Earlier in the thread, you said to someone else "you're wrong" and "you're embarrassing yourself". None of the people you were replying to even seemed to provoke that kind of accusatory response.

Yea, that was the only thing I really noticed about the story of Other M, but it wasn't really all that apparent.

Anyways, this is getting off-topic.

I'm pretty sure DW games have difficulty settings.
And besides, combat in DW games are usually not terribly complicated in battle.

When I used to play with my brother, it was more about who could get to 500 or 1000 kills first.

So...yeah.

Musou games, by default, are as accessible as can be. It's part of why they're popular in Japan, so, no worries there!

In fact, one the main detriment of this series is the perceived lack of challenge. But this is why four levels of difficulty usually exist.

I see. Well I guess you can tell I will be new to the genre as well. Based on the little I know, and the brief footage shown in the past, I thought there was some level of strategy involved.

Unless I'm misinterpreting, sounds like it is mindless button mashing.

Edit: maybe not "mindless", just a masher.

Makes you wonder why they would devolve to baser forms.

"After Skyloft was attacked, the humans left us, and we could not longer survive. So, we evolved smaller bodies to survive without our human friends."

Something like that, maybe?

I love Impa's new design. She looks like a mix between her Ocarina of Time & Skyward Sword incarnations to me.

It's great; I love everything but her open toe shoes.

Pretty much.

The challenge comes from the Generals, not the grunts.
And annoying arrow guys.

Plowing through waves of grunts is fun though.
Watching the bodies pile up and the map slowly change color as you, a single general, destroy an entire army.
Gives me chills.
I need this game!

Well, in any dificulty you win by owerpowering your enemies. In harder difficulties the enemy grunts have better stats, meaning that unless you are at high enough level your hits wont juggle them or even put them in hitstun, and they will hit you back for huge damage. In this case it is possible for them to juggle you to dead.

When I start a new game I always go for Hard or whatever is above the default difficulty, the grunts are still weak so your level 1 units can hit them, but you have to respect their damage output and the enemy officers are a threat instead of a ragdoll

We don't know how it works in this game, but the usual Musou trope usually boils down to being able to "escort x to y", "protect x from a large cluster of enemy reinforcements" and usually making sure your allies are still alive and well.

But overall, this post still does a lot to explain what you're in for.

Wolf Link is also in this game.

This whole post is highly unnecessary. A post like "no it didn't" is rude and makes no attempts to argue a point. It doesn't warrant and overly polite response. Every thing you bring up about my post is true about the original. Why bother explaining something to someone who makes no attempts at conversation?

Like I said, you overreacted.

Why do some Japanese video game developers not know what real boobs look like

Does it have something to do with the birthrate being at an all time low

I've always felt massive cleavage was the one thing the franchise was missing.

lol I guess the development teams also agree on that sentiment. :3 But we have seen those things before in Zelda.

Very true it is a perfect mix of her previous designs and the blues in this game are vibrant. I love how well she came out and I can't stop commenting about it. Most of these designs are great. Although, the red armored guy looks pretty generic at this point, imo.

Well there is the z target system. So one on one combat with bigger enemies would seem to be more dynamaic.

Maybe Team Ninja is helping on this front?

So literally the plot of the game is "scantily glad sorceress wants to get into Link's pants, so she turns evil and steals Link's friend in a fit of jealousy"

Am I the only one who is rolling their eyes right now?

Other Musou game stories:

- This snake is evil, we should probably kill it?
- The evil snake is back.
- It's back again let's super kill it.
- These shells are making everyone evil. Let's beat them up until they're not evil anymore.
- We all got timewarped here, let's get together and fight evil.
