He would smother people on defense. He would knock down open 3s and never take any other kind of shot from the perimeter. He’d have a midrange game, too. He’d be quick enough to get to the rim whenever he wants — sometimes using the insane Tony Parker spin move that renders everyone helpless — and strong enough to score against anyone when he gets there.

He would be rangy enough to play two or three positions if you needed. He would be disciplined and never force anything. He would have octopus arms and catcher’s mitt hands and giant gnarled feet. He would show absolutely no emotion at any point, ever, and have no discernible personality. Personality is for comedians and car salesmen. Personality doesn’t win basketball games.

He would be 6-foot-7 or 6-foot-8, the default height for any random NBA player. He would have cornrows, another default option in the system. He would have “played college basketball” somewhere like San Diego State; just recognizable enough to sound believable to outsiders, but just random enough to explain why nobody really remembers him.

Then one day you would look up and see him dominating the NBA playoffs. Crashing the boards and finishing down low like Tim Duncan; playing the passing lanes like Parker, and then screaming down fast breaks for layups; nailing a few of those jumpers that Manu Ginobili used to hit. All the while, playing the kind of relentless defense that won the Spurs four titles, never showing a hint of fatigue. A little bit of everything, but never enough to attract too much attention.

Then you would understand: He’s the perfect Spur. Twenty years of field research finally realized. That’s when it would all make sense.

Kawhi Leonard is a basketball drone who was invented in a laboratory by Gregg Popovich. You will never convince me otherwise.

People are just trying to fit their own narratives now. WTF was LeBron supposed to do? When have you ever seen a player take teammates who are playing like garbage and turn them around? LeBron played his ass off this series but he's LeBron so people will find reasons to make it not good enough. It's honestly getting pathetic already. He's still far and away the best player on the planet and guess what? Being the best player on the planet isn't always enough.

Agreed. I'm not sure Wade is not getting most of the back lash when he did NOT show up. He didn't even try. LeBron does not deserve this at all.

Basketball is a game where one player can totally transform a team. Baseball and football not so much, except maybe qb but not really then.

And Lebron alone DOES transform a team. His presence alone pretty much guarantees 50-60 wins, even with scrubby teammates. He just dragged a broken, beaten down team to the Finals. Yes in basketball a single player can totally transform a team, but that doesn't mean that said great player can win a title every single year, and if he doesn't that doesn't mean he sucks. Even precious Jordan only won 6...what happened in the other 8 or 9 or however many seasons he played? Why didn't he win a title every year since, in a lot of people here's eyes, that's what a true great is supposed to do along with playing with amputated limbs apparently.

I don't get all this hand-wringing for Bron. Big stars always get destroyed when they lose championships

Incredibly Naive
I think it's statistically impossible to beat some of Gretzky's records. Some of his records are untouchable IIRC.

This happens, but when eras switch over people will understand that and adjust accordingly, I mean hell look at the numbers russell and chamberlain put up. Obviously it's not a perfect comparison, but yeah I'd agree about the gretzky thing, and if you stretch MJs stats nobody really touches his either. The FG%, the PPG, the steals, the defense, etc.

And to think, we traded this guy for George Hill....I know I know, maybe the Spurs play such great team ball that individual performances kinda dont matter, but still....We traded him for George Hill, ugh...
Wouldn't have happened if Richard Jefferson could have become Bruce Bowen 2.0. That failure forced them to scour the draft for Kawai. People forget not everyone can plug in and fit in SA even they really want to do so.

Sorry not giving that comparison at that age with Kobe. Wade's game is not predicated on jump shots like Kobe Bryant, it's for penetrating, splitting and finishing. Wade's game ages faster than other players. I heard Wade was working with a shooting coach, but developing a different style of game late is very difficult to do as a shooting guard. Wade already has a post game, Kobe later incorporated that. Wade is going to continue to decline. Save your money Miami. That is the priority this off-season! TRICK WADE TO OPT OUT!
Wade needs to retire a Heatle. Jason Kidd developed the 3pt shot late in his career. Wade could do the same with work. He's too high IQ a player to want gone. PEACE.

Lebron, why did you guys lose?

Wade needs to tear his ACL in one knee and his MCL in the other knee, and you know it, Pimpster.

Now you're just being fucking salty. MJ is the GOAT, stop hating. How many game-tying or Finals winners has MJ drained?

Plenty that secured his legacy. 6 for 6 bro, no one isn't going to match that for awhile.

This reporter is asking a dumb fuck question to Popovich.

"Do you feel [sorry] for LeBron James?"

Bitch, are you stupid?

What is up with all the apologists? If you don't want to blame LeBron for losing than don't give him credit when his team wins. Can't have it both ways.

Wade did try. He just couldn't do anything because it's not 2006 anymore. Guys that are bigger, taller, and more athletic than he is are going to give him problems. He's old.

oh god shut up. I have nothing to be salty about. I'm not a Heat fan. I'm not a LeBron fan.
