DRIVECLUB The Drenched Forests of Canada

What makes it even more impressive to me is the far draw distance. No limiting how far you can see with terrain and stuff to improve the graphics (which is done a lot). I just hope they make another Motorstorm eventually. It would be so amazing with this level of graphics. I also hope the difficulty doesn't rise so sharply like their previous games. I always got to a point in the Motorstorm games were I just couldn't progress any more due to the difficulty (mostly due to rubberbanding AI). Which usually doesn't happen to me in other racing games. Still so massively hyped about this game however.

I dunno maybe my eyes are old but the images off FH2 and this new DC footage doesn't look that different to me. DC is better but not miles better looking.

horizon 2 looks amazing, but it's not even close to driveclub
evo have setted the bar soooo damn high

Out of the three clips shown today, this is the one ive re-watched the most. There's just something about the lighting and the foggy weather that make it look photo-realistic. Every time i see it i do a double take and just can't believe how real it looks. Especially at the start of the gif, with the river on the right as he's racing down that road...it just looks so damn real.

Did i mention the part where i think it looks real?

I'm still more excited to play Forza Horizon 2. DriveClub, while pretty, just looks like it's missing something. Hoping the PS+ version is substantial enough to prove me wrong.

All of those great looking racing games coming this fall.

But damn that's one is way league ahead. Holy grail graphics. Now I hope it will great full featured game at the end. I know that, not all are one day ready, but hope won't take too long.

Much improved in the latest build, these vids were done just after E3 :)

If that's the case, why weren't videos made from the latest build? I'm not trying to be snarky, I just don't understand why the pipeline between capturing video from a dev box and releasing it to the public is a month long. What am I missing?

Just 2 AFAIK. The 3rd might be the PS access video, which is a compilation of several old clips and the 2 new clips.

PR approval and marketing cycles. There are times when they sit on videos for weeks or months because they want the timing to be right in order to build hype (for this game as well as other games they want to talk about). The bigger the company the more complex it gets. Sony has traditionally been pretty terrible at this. But they have come a long way recently.

Marketing.

It's not going to compete, Gran Turismo is not only 60fps, but has (assumedly) a lot more intensive simulation going on under the hood. Don't expect it to look similar.

I don't think it's that straight forward. Depending on when GT7 comes out, devs could have made far more advances in how they optimize for the hardware. After seeing DRIVECLUB and Infamous in the first year and the UC4 teaser, I don't even know what to expect anymore.

FH2 looks like a really good racing game DC looks like you are watching a real race on TV that's what stands out to me .... The inside the cockpit view is going to be nucking futs.

I'm actually most looking forward to the dash cam view. Just looks perfect to me. Really hope more games implement it.

GT7 is only supposedly a year away, though. I don't think there'll be a massive difference in quality between the two but despite it being PD I'd still vouch for GT7 looking inferior.

I expecting it to surpass driveclub In every aspect. No one expected first year games to look this good, so I can only imagine what a company like polyphony with serious funding can do with the hardware a year or two down the road. After seeing the order, uncharted 4 teaser and now this I am sold.

With PD developing it, I will never trust vague timelines like 'a year away'. They could be referring to Mars years :p

On a serious note, we have historically been incorrect with the "nothing can look better than this" assertions. As much as you could be right, you must admit that it is mere speculation on you part. GT held it's own every generation, even though it ran at 60 fps on PS3 and did all the simulation that other 30 fps arcade racers didn't do. What reasons are there to be convinced that this generation will be different?

Will they match the level of immersion, sense of speed, sound quality and obsessive environment detail? That's probably debatable. But I don't think that's related to the game being 60 fps or a simulation.

I can't really see GT7 topping this graphically. Maybe it might overall in looking more photo realistic (if that's possible), but not from a tech perspective, with respect to geometry, effects, textures, draw distances etc etc. DriveClub's engine looks like something that's completely built from the ground up on the PS4, whereas I suspect GT7 will be based heavily off the PS3 era engine, despite being massively overhauled.

Add to that, Gran Turismo overall has less attractive locales to work with, and has to worry about being 60fps. And more still, GT games generally have a lot more content than arcade racers, tracks, cars, modes etc to worry about, and for a team of just 100 or so, the expectation that they can fine tune and polish to the degree Evo have with DriveClub, might be asking just a touch too much.

But I guess we'll see.

This might be controversial to say, but I think they should hold off on releasing this game and ship it with the weather effects included. No patch shenanigans. Just ship the entire finished game.

Bonus request: Can they include the car from "The Wraith" as a secret unlockable or DLC? It would be awesome to drive it at night with lightning flashing in the distance. "Where the FIIIRREEE!?"

While the graphic are absolutely incredible, I think what's selling the believability for me are the graphics in combination with the sense of speed. Too many driving games seem to really screw this up, either making my car feel like a spaceship on rails, or like the car is stationary and the world is moving around it. When I watch these clips and others I get the impression of a car on pavement moving across tarmac, which is a huge plus for me.

This game looked great in the normal non-weather videos, but in the rain it is something else.

Also, is it just me or is that VW Beatle like driving on the same line as that Mini Cooper. Like literally (unnaturally) tailing it...

Oh I'm not denying it, it is complete speculation. I know there'll be leaps and bounds in "optimisation tech" by the time it comes out, I'm just sticking to the thought that GT7 has a lot more to "do" at runtime, so it'll have the performance edge but not quite the visual edge.

Grand Turismo is 60fps, no matter how much funding they receive, you can always do more @30fps than 60. I honestly don't think GT7 will look better than drive club, but I do remember in a interview where Kaz said he wanted the environments more alive. Pit crews, crowds in the stands etc... I think that's how GT7 will surpass Drive Club. (Not to mention GT7 will have a ridiculous amount of content).

It's safe to assume that GT7 won't have the same quality in the environments as Driveclub but will have better looking cars. Evolution clearly put an emphasis on the backgrounds where GT and Forza never did.

You can see the smudges and the reflection of the dash. Blew my mind the first time i noticed that.

You sure can. You can also see the environments being reflected in the carbon fibre trim on the dashboard.

I just can't...,. no effing words. I just...... damn.

Edited to ask..... So.... right side of the same gif right before it ends is that the reflection of the damn steering wheel in the effing windshield? good lord man .... no words.

Agreed. I'd just added that point to my post as well.

The difference is imo, evolution studio's is 1st party just like the GT devs. Except their aiming for 30fps not 60 the Gran turismo has to be.
