I dont know what the general consensus is with this remaster and the comparison shots that we are getting but I will come out and say it- im not impressed.

I don't see how anyone could be? I mean I think we are giving ND more credit than they deserve with this remaster. Yes the TLOU is a remarkable game and it obviously holds true in the PS4 version but we need to stop focusing on graphics. I cant believe how we are picking at the most subtle, unnoticeable changes that can only be "seen" ( and I say that while holding a magnifying glass ) with direct PS3/PS4 images.

This is essentially a port- remaster no

Hopefully ND releases a comparison video because there are plenty of differences in the ps4 version apart from the boosted resolution and framerate.

It looks like they ditched the grain and lost some sharpness due to compression... That was my biggest fear when they confirmed 1080p60 videos :/

Yes it's a remaster bro. It's running at 1080p 60fps. How did the ps3 version run again.

It fits perfectly with what a remaster is. The first remaster, God of War, simply upped the resolution, smoothed out the framerate, and eliminated the nasty screen tearing. That's basically what a remaster is. It's a better version of the original. This would qualify for that just due to it running at a much higher resolution and with a much better framerate.

With that said, we aren't going to be able to see just how big the difference in terms of textures, lighting, shadows etc. until they release some gameplay screenshots or videos.

isn't this the only thing there is to discuss about a remaster?

It's 1080/60 with visual improvements while the original was 720 and struggles to hit 30. Sums up a Remaster quite well, especially when ND has claimed that the gameplay and cutscene models are the same now. Slight improvement to those in cutscenes will be a large change in gameplay. I was expecting zero improvements to cutscenes aside from framerate and res.

Maybe my eyes are wonky, but the textures on her sleeve and on the seat look better in the PS3 pic

Wishmaster92's prerendered driving scene comparisons are using a pre-E3 2012 shot for the PS3 version.

Most of those improvements were made during PS3 development and the heavy video compression is probably responsible for the lack of grain.
Needs to be quoted since apparently some missed it.

I was wondering why the "PS3" image in the comparison seemed strange, like the missing eyelashes that are definitively there on the screenshots I took, when I played the game.

Wow, you can really see the power of the PS4 in that comparison (8GB of GDDR5). If the labels weren't there I'd think it was PSX vs. high-end PC.

Why do Naughty Dog games attract completely pointless troll posts? We've got enough crap over in the Uncharted Remastered thread.

I missed it. Whoops. Carry on.

He is right though, it's a ridiculous comparison that really doesn't show any significant difference (and i don't care how many tables you can fill with "improvements" in there), that's why all those cut scenes comparisons (of pre-rendered videos) don't really mean much, only gameplay which ND refuses to share.

That comparison is even more pointless when you factor in it's using an E3 build, that isn't even what the final cutscene looked like on PS3. The cutscenes aren't going to look any different guys. They didn't do ANYTHING but re-render them at 1080p 60fps.

I'm just having a go at the people that said this is a huge difference. If that is all the difference between PS3 and PS4 was, then good night to advancements in graphics. :p

gaming is literally dead.

In my opinion the remaster will be great, but we shouldn't expect GIGANTIC differences between the two version. The biggest reason to be excited is the performance, resolution, and the complete package including the dlc. The game looked great already, considering they will also improve the IQ, what's more to ask?

I like how you based your next-gen expectations on a remaster and neglected all next gen games (released or announced) but whatever suits you..

Have you seen DC, Uncharted 4, The Order.

I don't know about you but I saw those games and I'm quite impressed.

I live in the UK but if I was to download the US version and play it on my UK account would I get access to the game on the US release date (29th July) instead of the UK one which is 1st August?

You would be able to start the download when the US release date is and then play it as soon as it's downloaded.

Well, I happen to stumble upon this post and replied to it, do I have to do background check before commenting?.

back to topic, I'm not really expecting much of this game graphically since it was built for PS3, 1080p/60 is good enough for me to upgrade.

I'm awfully tempted to pick up a console + game bundle or (if said bundle doesn't hit Australia) a cheaper PS4 + an imported copy, but deep down I know I should wait until the system has more tantalising exclusives, by which point it'd likely be a little cheaper. Without looking too far ahead, I'd say the only other exclusives I'm interested in currently are Killzone: SF (despite its somewhat sour reception), Infamous: Second Son and kindasorta the not-too-far away The Order: 1866.

As the PS3 cut scenes were pre-rendered, they aren't realistically going to look a lot better on PS4. The real graphical differences will be most noticeable during gameplay, which Naughty Dog claims looks as good as the pre-rendered scenes.

Based on your interest in The Last of Us, Killzone: SF, The Order 1886 and Infamous Second Son I'd say wait until The Last Guardian before you pick up a PS4.

Doesn't make your last senseless troll posts a bit better here.
I didn't try to make it better. There is no remastered version of that post, I think it was perfect the first time.

Haha, I'd say the latest I'll likely jump in is circa the release of Uncharted 4. The biggest hurdle, really, is convincing myself that I won't buy the console only to rarely play games, as unlike with Steam that'd actually bother me.

It looks pretty much the same as the PS3 version though it'll play better.
If it's 1080p, 60fps, it will look completely different to the PS3 version. Unfortunately what they've shown so far (mostly cutscenes) utterly fails to demonstrate this. I don't know what they playing at. The cutscenes were easily the best looking parts of the game, in the least need for an improvement. It was during gameplay where it often looked muddy and occasionally choppy, and would benefit hugely from the resolution and framerate bump. Why aren't they showing this?
