I'm very interested in knowing what towns and cities in the game will really be like. Also in terms of how lively and interactive they feel, especially if there's going to be a day/night cycle and they're aiming for a "realistic" feeling world. Aiming for something like FFXII's cities but in a modern context would be a great way to do it, but I'm not really sure if they're capable of that sort of thing anymore. I just hope it's not some lifeless backdrop which serves as a "town" area but has very little interactivity and lots of fenced off areas. That would be disappointing.

Fully expecting some stuff like FFVIII. I feel like the Naora influence will be strong in this one.

Mannn, this seems like an awesome game to implement a choco o breeding system. Same breed traits and ultimately a flying chocobo. Pleaaaase.

Noctis looks fine, it's the way the enemies react is what makes the combat look a bit janky imo. Especially the hitbox on that final spear weapon which barely touches the goblin but sends him flying.

This was posted in the other thread, a full translation of the demo: http://www.reddit.com/r/FinalFantas...nslation_for_ffxv_segment_during_ff_type0_hd/

Hi, thanks for posting a link to the translation I made. I'm new on this forum so I didn't know there was this thread talking about the tech demo.

Holding for continuous attack sounds horrible......damn just set it to charge attacks or something

Hajime Tabata specifically uses the word "押してる" when he said "press the Attack button". He only uses the word "続けてる" when saying "hold onto the Defend button".

I went into more detail about this issue in the comment section of that reddit thread.

Weapon switching is in. Read op :)
Thanks :)

Thanks for the info Verendus!
Hold on, don't misunderstand me.

Weapon switching was in, in a demo, from a while ago. It looks like the mechanic is still very much present from the way this TGS tech demo seems to play in the presentation, but that can't be said for sure. I'm like 75% sure, but there is that 25% because Square Enix.

That's a better way to put it.

Same here. Noctis' animations in the demo video are almost mesmerizing. Stellar work.

edit: resposting because too good.

Ohhh, before I forget. I have a question regarding the concept video you saw of another FF last year. You mentioned a video with summons and traversal involving them. Could this have been Type-0 HD where you can control your summons/eidolons and fight as them?^^

This almost seems too easy to me. While you hold the attack button, you can literally divert your attention to the Behemoth and be alert for its attack. You don't have to pay attention to anything else. So the dodging becomes really easy since you're always focused on the next button switch instead of the next action.

You missed the part where Hajime Tabata said: "If you are driving, you will have manual control of the car." It's in the translation.

When I'm not driving I can imagine the small convos that must go in whole you read your destination. If it's like gta in a way it awesome like those small moments just watching the landscape along with the group chatting can't wait.

No.

Yep, I missed that. Tired. I'm interpreting this to mean Noctis will actually be the one behind the wheel if the player chooses, rather than just controlling the car. That's good then. Now if only they could confirm we can control control robots, bikes and rowing boats.

Boats would be nice. It'd be a great way to show off Accordo. Jump in and jump out of boats. What's the next step? We control.

I got ya, np.

I think the footage still shows it too, but yeah can't be 100% sure. The thanks was for the big info post as a whole anyway.

It's so great!

Auto travel is the one feature that was immediately obvious from the trailer. It's also the feature I'm excited about the most. I love basking in a game, and I felt that XIII was amazing with that because of its awesome graphics and music.

Reading your comments. He just seems to be stating that if you press attack, he will attack. Nothing about exclusively being automatic.

Agreed. The only thing that game didn't articulate well about it's world was the lore. Unfortunately that's the most important part.

Yeah, I hope we can still switch swords on the fly for combos like that (or atleast set up combos in advance might be how they achieve that), hopefully them still having the swords materialize during attacks means this is still in.

I'm hopeful since while the commands don't show it, he does still switch between several weapons in this:

Since there was that shot of Noctis hanging off of a building using his sword I hope so.

After reading what Verendus has said and seeing this I am much more confident in the battle system and am okay with it no longer being KH related.

If weapon changes are manual that would awesome......guessing you can create lots of combo's with that and yeah animations are insane.

wow!! thanks verendus. That helped a lot.

So... about that "demo of the notes" that Verendus was talking about, where is that information coming from??

Verendus, did you play that demo? did someone else play that demo? or you cant answer!?

I understand what you mean. I also don't think there is a lazy auto-attack button. I just didn't know any other suitable words that I can translate "勝手に" into. Maybe "arbitrarily"?

Pressing the attack is the key part. The hold is to chain after and works well with the switching mechanic. A slight difference, but it's important. It's very much action based. I'll be pretty happy with it being the final thing.

I wonder what other versions there have been. I have to believe there was some form of Kingdom Hearts version and they've been evolving and changing since.

That's what makes the most sense to me too. You hold the attack button while you switch weapons on the fly for different combos.

As long as manual combo strings are still a thing, I'm completely satisfied.

I seriously still can't believe it actually looks and runs better than the E3 target renders.

This is a good gif. I'll try and use this to compare to the older demo in the notes. If it was played like that, then:

L1 to implement switch as beginning of combo
Circle press to attack
L1 to implement switch
Circle press to attack
L1 to implement switch
Circle press to attack and then hold for chain
L1 to implement final switch
Circle press for attack

Can you see the pause in the gif after the third switch after the first attack with it? That's where I'd press and hold for the remaining chain.

Yeah, gifs are magical. I think that portrays what I was trying to say much better than the notes did. I hope it's not dumbed down more than this. This is about right for me personally. You can't button bash, but it's also not completely restrictive.

The only thing better would be to control a Summon and give him the same combat system, but that's probably asking too much.

So, you cant do a switch with L1 without releasing the attack button (circle) first, right??

What would happen if you keep playing as though it was Kingdom Hearts? By that I mean, what would happen instead of holding it you just keep tapping. Will Noctis just perform the same beginning combo attack over again or will it still do the combo?

Because it sounds it could be played both ways in a simple and easy manner.

Yeah. I like how Grivenger and Verendus put it, that adds depth to it and doesn't make it annoyingly complex for the sake of it. Hold to chain while you switch weapons.

The combat sounds good but I'd prefer the option to be able to button mash. It gives me a greater feeling of control :(

Not really, you can button mash as many times as you want but there's still a buffer between the actions depending on how long the animations take.

If you're talking about controls, this allows more control for just one button. That one button to attack is very versatile. I understand liking pure, twitch-based gameplay but I don't think the 'control' is the issue here.

for what verendus said... I undertand that you couldnt switch weapons (in that old "demo of the notes") if you had the attack button pressed.
