Pachter Predicts: Xbox One outsold PS4 in September (dance, you puppets)

LBP and Singstar is stronger than MS line up when it comes to selling consoles for christmas IMO. Both target family and social gaming. My GF and her friends love Singstar and my ears got the scars to prove it. LBP is a game you can play with anyone from your hardcore pal to my 5 year old nice since there is so much to choose from.

These kinds of games sell consoles to people that have waited to pick one up for christmas and that demographic is not hardcore gamers IMO.

Also while Halo is big I dont see people getting that bundle unless you are a big Halo fan that loved H2 MP. The fact that it was 10 years ago it released and many of the people that played it then probably moved on does not help either but who knows.

SO we will have to wait and see but I dont know if there is a big hype for it. Personally I got bored of it after watching five minutes of gameplay and the only thing that happend was rail grinding more or less so have not stayed updated on it.

Yes answering the question honestly any one would choose LBP3 over any of those games, the game has limitless possibilities and they even added more stuff to the infinite stuff already there, the game is going to last people years because people will always be pushing the engine to the limits and making games on it no one thought possible, for example some one managed to make an fps game and a top down rpg with lvl ups with a 2.5d platformer game.

Tell me that doesnt sound better than any of the others honestly

They wouldn't though. That's just your opinion.

This. It'll just set a bad precedent all around if Microsoft gets successful with this practice.

So you think Sony should stop doing it for PSN Plus?

Giving away free games just to get on the top spot isn't exactly a great way of competing. It shows desperation.

You sound upset Microsoft is willing to offer free games to be more competitive.

Actually, I think it shows determination.

Why aren't free games a great way of competing, as long as they are quality titles?

It is a great way to compete. It's also less costly to them than lowering the price of the hardware, something they all do to remain competitive. Do you honestly think biker said these things when Nintendo used this promo on the WiiU?

Free games are fantastic for consumers but a long-term problem for Microsoft. You don't want your consumers expecting deals and waiting on them.

I'm sure it is cheaper for Microsoft if it is a 1st party game, but that week prior to Destiny's release must have been expensive.

Then your own admission is Steam's rock bottom price sales and giving away free games with PSN Plus and XBOX Live Gold is bad for business.

Just because they're rich, doesn't mean that they could do this indefinitely. They have fiscal budgets each fiscal year, as an example.

Because consumers won't be purchasing the console without a bundled game or two. And how long can Microsoft actually sustain this?

You own stocks in Microsoft, if not why do you care how long they can sustain this practice?

Worked for PS3 last gen. PS+ monthly games were not goodwill.

Precisely. Now people see more value in PSN Plus and are more willing to play online there and some will even go as far as accepting online play behind a paywall now.

I'm sure they could manage to sustain it as long as they felt they had to. At least until they've felt they've caught up enough.

You still haven't explained why free games and bundles are bad. They might not be the best for a company financially, but it's more than good for the consumers who reap the rewards.

That's the thing I don't get, why some act like they have stocks. As a consumer isn't lower prices and additional content included good?

Consumers will go where they see the best value and don't really care about the expense that comes with it towards the company behind the promotions. Nintendo had to make corrections on the 3DS early on, Sony had to do it with the PS3. It's just natural to up your game to compete better.

As other have said, I dont know what is a joke and what isnt in this thread, some posts HAVE to be jokes.

I generally think for the most part Microsoft have done an excellent job of turning there year around, while I dont expect them to win September by any stretch they have been the better provider post launch. Thats mainly due to will both companies strengths... Sony is and always be hardware first company... Microsoft Software and services... I dont get why people refuse to ignore these traits, its no surprise.

I don't think Singstar will sell as many consoles as you think. It's not the kind of game that benefits from better hardware, and it's also a game which targets an audience that are likely more than happy to continue playing it on the PS3.

I wasn't aware of Singstar. It's not on my radar at all.

Applying that to my original post, I personally don't think that Singstar / LBP is as appealing as Halo / Sunset / Forza Horizon 2, Titanfall though for console buyers, but I don't know the sales numbers so that's a totally uneducated guess. Feel free to correct me.

MS have piled more into Q4 but Sony have a similar amount across the year. So a new user looking at the exclusive lineup will see similar numbers of titles. Thats assuming there are many people that just look at how many exclusive titles there are on each platform to make a purchasing decision (I don't think there are)

MS: Titanfall (although not published by them), Forza Horizon 2, Halo MCC, Sunset Overdrive

Sony: Infamous SS, MLB, TLoU, DriveClub, LBP3, Singstar

It is absolutely fine for you to say you think X company has a more compelling lineup. It is a stretch to then say that most people will find X company's lineup more compelling.

I would argue that the success of Xbox Live created what was atleast the pre-Kinect Xbox 360. Also the Nintendo DS created the Nintendo Wii. A gimmick, budget hardware and a Nintendo library of software. Sony wasn't a fucking Wizard during the PS2 generation that created every success afterwards. The next set of consoles were built on the personal successes of the previous.

The success of the PS3? You're one funny man.

I don't know about Sony biased, since I've seen a lot of outrage toward Sony for the last week. However I'm seeing a clearly biased toward MS right now.

When Microsoft gives away free games, it's desperation, when Sony gives away free games:
Thank you based Sony <3

Let me teach you something. Take note of when they announced the "Free games".

Hm, this thread is one of the better pick and choose what replies people "see" in order to continue a pursuit of their only mission. There really is not much room for discussion in here, Patcher wins.

I'm not saying the conspiracy theory is true, it's ridiculous. This thread has a lot of weight being swayed in favour to one company regardless of September. Neogaf atm is very much PS4 + Bayonetta 2.

You know there was a time when GAF was all about the 360 and the Wii with the PS3 getting a level of abuse/scorn that is worse than what the Xbone is getting at the moment?

It's almost as if the very nature of the video games 'business' is cyclical and fickle.

That's no conspiracy theory? It's true, we all get paid by Mr. Sony and we all hate Micro$$$oft.

Sony is putting my kids through college....., but I hates on the Micro$$$oft in my spare times for free.

If you have a family or GF and want a ps4 for christmas at least that is one game that can help you convince your beloved one that it is worth picking up. It happend on the ps2>ps3 era.

Halo, Gears and Mario are all in the top 20 best selling franchises from last generation. What this proves is that People like video games, the more games the better. It's why exclusives are a great thing.

With that being said, if the Wii casuals come out to finally buy a new system, where would they look, SO and MCC or LBP and SS? That is the market both want right now..

Not sure about your gf but mine wouldn't fall for that if she had Singstar on the PS2 and PS3 already. It only works so many times, and it's been around long enough that I'd think most people who are interested would already have it in one form or another.

Neogaf atm is very much PS4 + Bayonetta 2. Microsoft has been copping the most hate, regardless of the fact they're getting the exclusives that come second to the Nintendo Only Software Wii U ecosystem. I have not seen one positive Sunset Overdrive thread and any FH2 thread becomes versus Driveclub. The war is in full scale but Neogaf has collectively picked a side, much like the current consumer consensus. However, Sony hasn't done much in software to show they've earned it. Rather, Microsoft has been doing a lot to show that Sony doesn't deserve it as much as people would like to believe.
You're WAAAAYYYYYY too invested into a multi billion company, why would you care on what people think of Microsoft? Why does it matter that much to you?
I started to lurk these forums back in 2006 and until 2009 or something the PS3 wasn't really well liked by the forum members in general, and well deservedly so. The public chooses the most popular and appealing console and this gen it is the PS4 (atm) last gen it was the 360.
There are enough positive SO and FH2 threads and they get shat on as much as a DC or Order 1886 thread, but I guess you only see what you want to see.

And Bayonetta 2 is awesome yes, loved the demo, you should play it when it releases in your continent.

It's weird how as better LBP got with each installment it also scored lower. WTF LOL
I will never understand the arbitrary way reviews seem to decide some games that remain the same with evolution of capability deserve higher praise and some games that remain the same with evolution of capability deserve lower praise.

No conspiracy theory just an odd fact that you see with scores for some franchises that started with good reviews.

For whatever reason with LBP despite pretty much every iteration improving on the original, sometimes significantly (the jump to circuits in LBP2 was actually huge) seems to be one where the reviews creep lower.

Aye lol.

I mean LBP has two installments already, whilst SO is completely new. Halo 2s multiplayer is returning better then ever but they'd rather play Singstar. You have to admire the loyalty.
Nice double standards there. A totally new game of a great franchise, or a shinier version of an old game that a lot of people have already played. I know which one I'd choose.

Really? Someone wants the Wii U casual market? There's barely anyone there. If anyone wants the Wii U audience right now, they seriously need to rethink their strategy, IMO.

I totally agree, it perplexes me too. Also when half the reviews about the need to 'fix' the jumping.

LOL, read the previous comments. Both MS & Sony want to bring the old Wii casuals back into the console game this holiday season. Now, comparing software, would MS's Sunset Overdrive and Halo MCC do better to bring in those sales, or Sony's Little Big Planet 3 & Singstar?

Wii market, definitely not the Nintendo hard core WiiU community. ..

I don't care, I'm just pointing out a rather continuous pattern in Neogaf at the moment. People calling Neogaf a hivemind isn't a new concept and in some cases it can be entirely true. It just shows how important this forum is to some gamers.

SonyGaf strikes again!
(Just ignore the 50 or what threads we had bashing Sony for Driveclub and their network last week)

Poll threads are precisely why it's so interesting though, they are never 50/50. Most polls on the gaming side are one sided. You could literally put all the results in a binder and go to a meeting and describe the "Neogaf Gamer" but he'd most likely come off as schizophrenic.

Wait, who's opinion from GAF should I take, I mean, we should all take the same opinion..

I find this exceptionally hard to believe...

I don't.

MS have been trying hard, pumping out major update after update, price drops, new SKU units in the works, new bundles and deals and just a lot of other shit. Sony have not been putting in much as near the same amount of effort that MS has to mold their console in to the feedback of people.

I am lucky to have a GF that bought a ps4 of her own so I dont need to sell her on anything. And I still belive having those kinds of games on a new console makes it alot easier to convince your close ones to pick one up compared to Halo or other titles aimed at hardcore non couch gaming regardless if you already own it on another plattform. Singstar is also free it is the songs that cost money and you can use your old account and microphones as well so you dont lose anything by uppgrading.

I hope so because Sony seem walking to the park.

I was PS3 owner because I love Sony's arrogance, now they are way too quiet.

Sony is quiet because they are literally asleep at the wheel, they've even come out and basically said "we don't know why we are successful". It shows, their game library won't be in full swing until early 2016.

Songs going into Christmas on name alone. But that may just as well be enough.

MS has the games but tier biggest hurdle is going to be against their own stigma

you're speaking about gamer here. but casual don't really need games to buy a system. just the need to own the trendy system.

And yet the PS4 has WAY more games than the Xbox One does. And will through the end of the year, and it's not close.

If Sony's game library won't be in full swing until 2016, when will Microsoft's? 2018?

I agree - and I am also in a way glad that MS is not in the lead because they suffer from complacency when they are winning. It's nice to have them working hard with the constant updates and improvements to the Xbox One. I have a feeling it would look a lot different (worse) if the original launch had been successful and they were in the lead.

Pls. Don't be so bitter and don't let your hate against a random company completely cloud your view on things. Pulling a quote from a couple of months ago out of any context just to pull your agenda is not going to help you.

There should really be a "In the US" on the thread title.

I almost laughed myself to death until I saw that he was talking about US numbers. Which doesn't seem so impossible.

I promised myself I wouldn't buy an XBONE after MS's diabolical first year. BUT they seem to have learnt what's good for the consumer is good fir business, (something that Sony realised immediately: ALWAYS look after your core market first) and things are turning around.

I bought a bone because of FH2. I'm sure DC is a similar killer app. Both consoles have pros and cons, but surely as an individual consumer you're going to go where you feel the most comfortable, either based on hardware (Sony); Multiplayer (XBONE) or exclusives (Nintendo).

Or you just transcend it all and own a PC . . .
