So Hyrule Warriors has sold 190K (digital + physical) in 5 days?

HW came out the 26th of September, the tracking period for September 2014 NPD is until October 4th so no, not 5 days

oh boy here comes 50 SwiftDeath posts in the next few hours

;)

Just try to slow me down

How much more can MS step it up. The only thing they could do is drop $100 but then they'd risk Sony responding. And a $299 PS4 would be even tougher to deal with

Microsoft will need to do something big. They can't buy every 3rd-party title in development/on the market, so throwing cash at publishers isn't a smart move because it's simply not sustainable. They can't invest billions into new first-party IP because they simply don't have the talent and pool of people that can make a whole bunch of new IP.

Live is where they have an opportunity. An obvious (and somewhat risky) decision would be to kill the Gold requirement for online multi-player. Microsoft must add value to the Xbox One in ways that Sony would not be able to easily match. That's not saying that Sony can't match their move (this is where the risk comes in), because if Sony feels like the Xbox One is a serious threat to their PS4 marketshare then Sony will make a big move as well. Remember, Sony might be hurting financially, but they're not stupid. PlayStation is a brand that they will invest a lot of resources to keep alive.

As you mentioned, Microsoft cannot compete with the current PS4 price so a cheaper PS4 would mean game over for the Xbox One. This is why Microsoft need to make a sacrifice - lose profits (Live money) to gain market share. They need to do it fast, because the PS4 getting a price cut in the future is going to happen.

RIP stock market brokers and financial analysts that listened to Wedbush Morgan's prediction this month. :lol

Not trying to insinuate Patcher is bad at the part of his job that involves dishing info to his clients but I do have to wonder how he could be that off. His hardware estimates were laughable honestly. I have to assume he does a lot of other work that he provides clients that make his consistently hardware predictions irrelevant to them.

Congrats Sony. Stunning numbers. I'm super curious however to see how the Xbox One did in comparison. Though Sony took the month the Xbox One's September numbers relative to how Sony performed will really give us an insight into the One's current health and position in the North American market.

So in short the numbers mean everything. Aqua/Cream usually show up in two or three hours from now (~5am GMT) correct?

Let's see, first/second party games takes time, unless they are in the oven 1-2 years ago, MS can't magically make more.
Could buy more third party exclusive that plan to release in 2015; weekly OS update instead of monthly?
Free 3 games instead of 2? More price cut? More marketing budget?
Lots of options.

How many more subsidies do you think MS is willing to throw at this division? That's some fat stacks on top of the fat stacks that have gone belly up already.

wait, Destiny sold better on x1??

Yeah I get to answer one of these :)

So bundles aren't included in the Top 10 Software charts so that means that XB1 Destiny Retail Standalone sold more than PS4 Standalone in the month of September

The PS4 Destiny bundle likely did really well and the XB1 promotion to get a free game would inflate new buyers willingness to purchase retail games over digital due to the promotion

Welcome back Swift.

How much was the gap between PS4 and Xbone before Sep NPD?

Around 750k give or take 15k. Strong possibility of PS4 getting a 1M lead after this month depending on XB1's performance

Not sure if it was pointed out, but PS4 outsold Xbox 360's Halo 3 month (Sept 2007 - 527K).

Really impressive and strong showing for Sony, and this sort of puts to end the "doomsday" crowd the past few months saying how PS4's sales would somehow come crawling to a halt.

IMO, the only chance that they have, is in the U.S. & the UK. Xbox One is already on life support outside of those two regions, & by next year, no one outside of the U.S. & the UK will care about Xbox One anymore.
Sorry, but you can't speak for all the XBONE fans in Europe. XBONE is still huge, it's still a brand that people know. When the day comes where people don't even know that Microsoft makes XBONE, it's time to pull the plug. And that's never going to happen.

Really interesting month.
Smash Bros sales are good, but either it pushed no units or this month was going to be horrible without it. Either way, I don't know how long sales can hold up even with the n3DS.
Hyrule Warriors did really great and seems like that was a good collaboration for the series.
And at this point, I still can't believe we have a 20 page thread on an idiotic Pachter prediction.

After 43 NPD months:

GBA: 26.40m
DS: 19.95m
GBC: 17.01m
PSP: 12.68m
3DS: 12.64m

Warner Brothers says next-gen ration is 25% download and 75% physical.
http://www.famitsu.com/news/201410/06062926.html

Obviously each publishers only speak for themselves. At this points, the number will vary a lot depending on the games. Destiny had a heavy digital push, it won't be surprising if 20% to 30% of its sales were downloads.

According to Famitsu, in Japan, these are the PS4 shares of download / physical (launch month):

Infamous: 11% / 89%
Watch Dogs: 7% / 93%
TLoUR: 14% / 86%
Diablo III: 21% / 79%
Destiny: 17% / 83%

Finally, could someone just say if Destiny PS4 + bundles is xx% above or below Destiny XBO so we can stop this madness already. =P

Considering how mobile has eaten everything up, you have to say Nintendo has done a fairly decent job with the 3DS. This year has been really disappointing however despite all the releases so far.

Hyrule Warriors did quite well and seemed to help Wii U sales along the new bundles (same price, but with 3D World/MK8 & Nintendo Land).

They've executed the last 18 months perfectly. Whether they can do the same for the next 5-6 years remains to be seen.

This is Sony after-all.

All we need to consider is the PS3 and the PS2. How long did Sony support these 2 consoles? Heck the PS3 is still getting games. Sony will be fine. MS? We cant say the same.

I just find it a shame that consumers aren't buying the console that has superior content, online, OS and controller. Come holiday the gap in content will become more apparent which should move millions of units so I will just play the waiting game.

Sony posters never see a storm coming. That's why the PSP and Vita came second despite being predicted otherwise on Gaf. They see hype with one eye and post with the other.

did you just double down on your own meltdown and salt level ? BHAHAHAHAHAA

SCEE: Let's go baby party time
SCEA: Exciting times
SCEJ/A: Please, no. No. Please. No.

This captures the overall Sony feeling for the holidays probably. SCEJ/A gonna be depressing this year. I can tell. Just damn.

Edit:

Guess I'll get one this holiday and upgrade with a 2 TB hard drive.
Oh, I was kidding. I thought you probably already had one.

If you've yet to buy a next generation console, then please support the Age of One.
