SCE Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida reveals that SCE had considered Sega a rival during the PSone days, but in the end, both had similar goals and therefore Sega became more of a “war buddy.” Yoshida also said that he hopes to continue bringing PlayStation 4 more Japanese games after Bloodborne that highlight the platform’s capabilities.

If Sony announces a major exclusive that was previously multiplat, do you think it will draw as much ire as the Tomb Raider deal, and should it?

Aren't they just trying to be aggressive and trying to outsell Xbone? And the bigger the sales gap the harder it will be for Spencer to do another TR deal. Think about that. Besides, substantially more gamers will own a PS4 anyways, and the better hardware is guaranteed to be utilized fully.

What about no more Killzone games?

Killzone isn't a bad game just needs to be left in better hands. The better hands being Guerrilla Cambridge. Killzone Mercenary was awesome! If they can bring that same awesome to a new PS4 Killzone I don't see what the problem is lol.

If you don't like Killzone don't buy it.

I think it should absolutely draw ire. I hate that shit. Stop trying to deprive other platform owners of games. It's spiteful to gamers who purchased these consoles just to try to achieve some little market victory. Pawns in their turf war.

You have your first party for that exclusive shit. For third parties, please stop with the timed exclusive DLC and the damn exclusive deals for major multiplatform titles.

Edit: Unless it was a multiplatform game that has long been dead and there was no chance of it coming back unless Sony funded it.

This week is like Christmas come early for PlayStation fans. Jesus. Between the PlayStation Awards and PSX, there's going to be a lot of late nights for many of us on these boards. Not to mention the Videogame Awards on Friday. Lawd.

I haven't played Mercenary, but I've played the rest of them. We've slowly lowered the standards of what we expect from that franchise since its inception. How many more millions and main line iterations are needed before people realize a fresh new shooter IP may be a better fit? I can vote with my dollar, but it doesn't always work like that. It's about opportunity cost when an IP has been around for as long as Killzone. Do you really want another Killzone game or a new original idea from Guerilla Cambridge? I think if you believe them capable of creating a great experience you should give them a chance to flex all of their muscle.

It would be in Sony's absolute worst interest to secure formerly multiplatform titles as exclusives.

They would be depriving themselves of key opportunities to let PS4 versions of games look a lot better, and therefore, their platform a lot better.

They absolutely need as many multiplatform titles as possible. Perhaps their biggest megaton yet could be that all their first party studios will now be outsourcing XB1 ports in order to increase awareness and profits simultaneously.

I think the clamor for new Killzones will go down once we actually get one where you play as the Helghast. They are the best thing about the Killzone series anyway.

It won't because GAF is more Sony leaning than MS, but games going exclusive is only ever good news for platform warriors.

Based on insider hinting, I think it's almost guaranteed to happen again at this point. Now we just wait for the announcement(s) and rage this weekend.

You're right, it is a war, sadly, and it's just not realistic to expect one side not to use the same weapons. If one side has to do it then I'd rather it be Sony, TBH. And I think most would agree.

Sony managed to keep a lot of things under wraps before the PS4 launch. Including price and 8gb ram. If Microsoft were caught off guard, and we were...then hiding a game from the world should be easy...right?

I think there is a distinction between, say, a multiplatform that everyone expects to come to other platforms or a long dormant multiplatform IP that would never have been seen again unless Sony or Microsoft funded the thing.

Keep that in mind

Mercenaries was vastly underestimated, even though the critical return was actually good :) Killzone IP should go to Guerilla Cambridge, while Guerilla Games should try their technical magic on new IPs.

I've personally made this point before and have seen it made repeatedly. It's also totally missing the point. It's an attempt to address the symptom and not the disease. Guerilla have proven without reservation that they are incapable of interesting characters or dialogue outside of Visari and his speeches. They've had four games across three platforms yet that history page on their website is deserving of more merit than literally every single piece of dialogue or exposition in game. The unfettered hatred of Rico has generated more discussion than the game's political allegory -- that's not a good thing. Even if they were to let you play as a Helghast -- they would invariably find a way to make that culture uninteresting. It's like saying Uwe Boll is just having trouble finding the right script. How about we all just move on from this fucking franchise and hope Horizon is good and that encourages them to explore more new ideas afterwards.
