Itagaki gives small update on Devil's Third via Facebook

I really want to believe in this project, its gonna scratch a gameplay itch if its solid.

E3 was probably/hopefully "alpha" footage.

Main character is laughably ironic and I have not a problem with him, most protagonists are annoying, why not make it part of the joke in a game looking to rip off B action movie nostalgia?

Is there any reason to doubt the Nintendo seal of approval or Itagaki?

The next footage of this should be good.

Man.. this dude did Ninja Gaiden Black, but goddamn if this doesn't look like garbage.
And i'm not even talking about the graphics, i mean, everything looks so stiff and clunky.

I hope they'll surprise me with it.

It's called polish. Happens at the end of dev.

This

I dont get why people think online will die so fast

AC4, Splinter Cell BL, both WiiU COD games you can go online now and have no trouble finding matches

even 007 Legends a few months ago I was able to go online and always find a TDM games with people

All those games prob sold under 100k on WiiU outside maybe the COD game which are prob more

Devils third will be exclusive and WiiU install base will be much bigger when it comes out, even if only 1000 people are online, thats enough to play, as long as you can get in a game

Even Mass Effect 3 quickly had me in a full three-person party a few months ago when I last checked in. Same for NFS Most Wanted U.

This online mp on WiiU = dead by default nonsense is not reality. Join us in the real world, people!

When was the last time Itagaki was associated with a good game? 2004?

Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword came out in 2008.

...hate me...
Put me on the hype side of things. This game has great premises and it looks to be on schedule enough to get layers and layers of polish.

I'm not the biggest fan of the art direction, but then again it doesn't stop a game like SO from being good and fun.

A new IP on a dead console centered around online isn't a precisely bright idea. What the hell was Nintendo thinking when they decided to buy this shit?
I can understand W101 and Bayo2 as investments in recognition. I can understand SMTxFE and Hyrule Warriors as an easy way of filling up the gaps by using famous IPs. I can understand Splatoon as a way of giving your employees some liberty. But this, this I simply can't.

I don't know. I'm sure Mikami was the same with Evil Within and yet that game was pretty flawed.
I haven't played Evil Within yet, but the consensus is all over the place. People who are into horror games seem to dig it so it's not like the game has no redeeming qualities. If Devil's Third ends up like that, it would be a great thing.

The game looked like ninja dog shit at E3. Like, if Itagaki's name wasn't invoked(cuz of that one good game he made like a fuckin' decade ago), I think even the few supporters it has now would have disappeared.

For the same reasons as Bayonetta 2. It's a mostly finished game that offers a different tone and genre to the rest of Nintendo' lineup.

Presumably a relatively cheap way to diversify their library a bit.

the e3 footage of this was superbly underwhelming. took me back to 2007 or so in the worst possible way. I've already written this off, so these words sound really really bold.

TEW is a fantastic piece of work, near-masterpiece. letterboxes or some dropped frames don't stop that.

I'm not quite ready for this yet. I need to fully wrap up my Bayonetta 1 & 2 playthroughs. By the time I'm done with that then this game should be launching. I'm predicting a May 2015 release date.

And yet it was one of the best games this year and my personal GotY. The fact that it didn't surpass RE4 is not a flaw, it's only natural.

TEW worst enemy is Tango itself. While it had an excellent director and a few veteran key people making sure the basis of the game was exceptional, It suffered by the newly formed dev team and the unfortunate selection of an engine.

As i always believe, newly formed devs, leaving the nest and making one of their own is only a good thing. I said it for Platinumgames, i said it for Tango, and I'm saying it for Valhalla/Itagaki.

I think my biggest problem was how hyped I was for it. And yeah, I guess part of the blame goes on the engine and the young staff. Hope their next game is better.

It has some amazing highs, but some terrible lows. Some parts I kept playing continuously while other were like a bog that I had no desire to cross and so made slow progress on.

Did you play it on PC or console? If you played on console which one? Honest question.

Played it on PC. My laptop could run it at 900P with a pretty solid 30FPS most of the time.

I see. Well, having played it on PC with the highest settings, no bars, custom FOV and leaving framerate as it is, getting a solid 30fps, i can say that i never had any of the technical issues you see around in the forums.
Game was excellent for me performance wise and as far as the game itself is concerned i enjoyed it immensely.
I asked you to see if you had any of the performance issues met on consoles or not so strong rigs.

Don't get me wrong, i understand all the problems of TEW, but at the other hand the game is brilliant, thanks to the director, the key people, and all the new guys and girls that worked so hard for it, and i see potential in Tango.
That's why i have faith in Valhalla and i'll give them a chance to prove what they can do. They have all they need to offer us a good game. I'll just wait and see.

I'm consistently baffled at The Evil Within negativity. It's one of the best third-person shooters in a long, long time.

Nah, it's an exclusive, it's bound to have some supporters. ;p

I was tempted to try removing the black bars but because it looked like it just zoomed in I decided not to. Plus I was afraid it might cause problems.

Aiming in Devil's Third puts you into a first person camera, since it feels more natural for gamers used to shooting games.

This is a screenshot from the E3 build in June... good news for you guys here.
The amount of progress we've made since then will surprise anyone. Higher-quality textures, improved weapon and environment models, better lighting... it's looking completely different now.

This.

We have endless threads with folks begging for Nintendo to offer more diverse & online enabled titles and yet here we are, talking about how Nintendo shouldn't offer diverse & online enabled titles.

Hmm...

From Itagaki facebook.

That's good to hear! The way Bayonetta 2 looked caught me off guard when I was done with Bayonetta 1, because I thought it would look like a PS360 game ported to WiiU, but instead it looked like it took advantage of the WiiU, it had that WiiU look where the lighting and textures are unexpectedly striking (I had the same reaction when I played Hyrule Warriors, where the textures and lighting were better than when compared to, say, the announcement trailer.) So I hope to have a similar reaction to the Devil's Third.

I really hope this is good. Been looking forward to this one for years now. I have a lot of faith in Itagaki. I want to see some new footage now.

Devil's Third looks somewhat rough around the edges, but still potentially fun. As long as the gameplay and controls are polished, then I'd be open to buying it... if I had a Wii U, of course. Come to think of it, I have never played an Itagaki game before. Although, I did briefly try out the Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword demo on DS.

The lack of shooting in those gifs made me much more interested in this game.

and even after the increase in interest I'm still not into it.

Thanks for posting.

Nintendo? is this another Bayonetta 2 thing, or its just multiplatform and Nintendo is just the only one that mentioned it?

Wii U exclusive. Nintendo is publishing. Basically a Bayonetta 2 situation. Despite the rough E3 showing, I think this game has potential to be fun.

Having never played an Itagaki game before, the initial trailer for this just looked -FUN- to play. Digging its sense of humor too, will keep a close eye in this. Glad to hear the graphics have improved considerably since.
