Square Enix teasing new PS4 title - Project Code Z [It's Minna de Spelunker Z, F2P]

What I want it to be: (1995 Square Mentality)

- Turn Based / Action RPG
- Epic Story with interesting Characters
- Awesome Music like the PS1/SNES days
- Awesome Art Style
- Challenging Game
- 40+ Hour game with extra side quests

What it'll probably be: (2015 Square Mentality)

- Card / Board Game
- Boring storyline with characters I won't care about
- Forgettable music
- Loli Art Style
- Game that holds your hand the whole way through
- 12 Hour campaign with tons of DLC packages I won't care about...

I miss the good old days.... :(
I don't think 2015 Square is that bad...
maybe a bit.

The music in SE's games is still great. It's only forgettable for you because you don't have as much of an emotional attachement to the new games as when you were younger.

Yeah man, can't get over all those lolis in FFXV.

Yeah FF13's OST is beautiful as is FF13-2's.

I still think SE has a ridiculous amount of talent in their studios....they just don't use it properly :/

XV's kinda grandfathered in from a freaking generation/decade ago. I'd be super surprised to see today's SE attempt something like that now, fresh from the ground up.

I guess I've missed all these SE games with a "loli" art style.
seriously what the fuck does that even mean

I'm sure FFXV and KH3 will be amazing all around...I'm mainly talking about new RPG IP's for consoles. I used to always follow every new Square announcement back in the PS1 days.

Might be true...but I'm a huge fan of Uematsu's work. Really enjoyed the music for Last Story from a couple years ago. Not so much from other Square-Enix RPG's in recent years.

Yeah man, can't get over all those lolis in FFXV.

FFXV is an exception. This is the most excited I've been for a FF game since FFX. Love the direction they're going for.

Say what you will about Square Enix games otherwise, but LOL @ you shitting on their music. Their VG OSTs are still top of the industry level stuff. You may hate FFXIII as a game all you like, but its OST is unarguably awesome (if you don't like it, the problem is with your own taste in music, not the quality of the music).

Also lol @ Squaresoft games ever being all that challenging. Secret of Mana is, like, the most easily breakable game EVER and fan favorites like Chrono Trigger & most Final Fantasies are piss easy for anyone who is over 7 years old. Squaresoft has always made JRPGs for the masses (mostly), that includes making games that anyone can get through with minimal effort (though with some singular story bosses with difficulty spikes and some more challenging side content). That's partly why they became the JRPG mammoth that they were. While Atlus pushed out hard-to-get-into & actually challenging games, Squaresoft was more interested in creating fantastical worlds & easy to get into games that appealed or at least had the potential to appeal to more gamers than something like the Shin Megami Tensei games. There are a few exceptions, but something like Kingdom Hearts can nowadays be far more challenging (on harder difficulty levels) than any action RPG Squaresoft ever made. And FFXIII's problem isn't that it doesn't provide any challenge ever (it's probably one of the easiest Final Fantasies to die in if you take risks and aren't just hiding behind defensive Paradigms)

So he didn't care for the music. That's his own opinion and there is nothing wrong with that.

Yeah. I don't particularly hate FF XIII, but I really disliked the music with very few exceptions. Not even close to Uematsu's past work on the franchise, in my opinion.

There is nothing wrong with not caring for some particular music, but to make a claim as if Square Enix half-asses the music in general in comparison to Squaresoft is just ludicrous and total & utter BS. Unarguably. If anything, their music sounds the best it has ever sounded simply because we are out of the horrible midi BIIB BOOB era and finally have (more or less) live recordings.

At some point it comes down to the person's taste in music and can't be argued in any sensible way. I just think that there is a level of objectivity to things like the quality of compositions. I like Foo Fighters but can acknowledge their songs aren't exactly amongst the highest tier artistic achievements. On the other hand there's plenty of music that I can agree is good but it simply doesn't fit my tastes so I don't care to listen to it voluntarily. I've never quite gotten into The Beatles, but I can admit that's got more to do with my own tastes in music than making some silly claim that their songs are thoroughly shitty. Beethoven unarguably composed some absolutely wonderful music. That doesn't mean everyone has to like his music, yet no one can make any kind of arguments that Beethoven was just half-assing his compositions and it's some amateur hour crap.

I love how people here are just asking why is everyone hyped when everyone else is saying how hyped they are not.

Anyway, highly unlikely, but why hasn't anyone posted this yet?

The magazine also confirms that this is the new title Square Enix plans to introduce at Tokaigi 2015 this weekend.

Maybe it's arcade + PS4?

That was my fault. I assumed because the post mentioned SoR would be revealed at Tokaigi this weekend that it was the title S-E was going to introduce, since they had just one "New Title" introduction stage.

You're officially worse than IGN.

=P, jk, it's fine.

So I'll just stay here hoping for a Gunslinger Stratos PS4 port (you don't need to localize it SE, I'll import it no problem).

The sound quality is much higher, but the music can be aprecciated in spite of that. And Uematsu's work exemplifies that perfectly. It's beautiful music.

Me too. Final Fantasy had went downhill ever since after X.

Hopefully, XV will finally breathe some life back into the franchise.

You joke, but as lame of an announcement that would be, it would sell a metric fuck ton. Isn't Frozen well on its way to being the most popular movie of all time, in Japan?

Personally, Id be hyped for that. Loved Frozen insanely and hope there is a Frozen world in KH3.

It's popular over there yes. It's pretty much a guarantee in stuff like KH3, but I'd doubt something more.

Do you think new IP?
New IP has higher chance of being MMO or F2P (not a bad thing, just something people would complain about).
