Illusory Revelations#FE (SMTxFE) - First Trailer, Winter 2015 [Up: Screenshots]

Its just fucking bizarre man.

Like, even if the game is a fantastic deconstruction and gets far darker or serious, this trailer here is the way the game is first presented.

just, what is it? cant wait to find out, whatever it is.
Then that would make it better for ducking with everyone

No, it doesn't. Say you can go through a first-person shooter by only using melee options. Does that make it a beat 'em up?

Plenty of other examples to choose from, too.
I read your other response too, this one is easier to quote since I'm not planning on directly responding.

I didn't mean to argue that Persona 4 is a dating sim. Clearly, that isn't all it is. But acting offended and pretending people are idiots when they use the word is a bit silly. Relationship management is the biggest aspect of the game.

I'm sure Conception 2 was a terrible game, that was a joke recommendation. But i would still consider the idea that maybe you would like dating sims, because the majority of Persona 3 and 4's gameplay is plays remarkably similar. I don't know if they're still there, but I remember Newgrounds used to have really silly ones. It's the same shit though, manage character stats so that you can make money, accomplish the the story events, and also build your relationships. Time and resource management is really what you do and I think it would be hard to enjoy Persona without appreciating this gameplay style.

Anyway, I'm all Persona'd out. I'd like to think anyone not looking for a fight can understand what I'm trying to say if I can be clear that I don't actually classify the games as dating sims, regardless of that quote you pulled.

By way of transition, I won't be surprised if #FE ends up with social link elements. DeSu2 was going that way with the Fate system and some of the clips in the trailer do look like they could be similar. Not opposed to it but honestly I find that stuff stressful so I kind of hope it doesn't end up that way.

SMT x FE x Kamen Rider confirmed

No different from SMT IV then:

I'm probably late on this, but you can make out the protagonists' names in the battle scenes:

Left to right in this image:

黒乃霧亜 (Kuruno Kiria?)
織部つばさ (Oribe Tsubasa?)
蒼井樹 (Aoi Ki?)
赤城斗馬 (Akaki Touma?)

We won't really know the readings until we get more info, but those are my guesses for now.
The 4th one should be Akagi Touma instead of Akaki Touma

Hmm it seems to me that combat will be vastly different from FE but the classed will be there. So far we seen Pegasus Knights, Paladins, Armor Knights, mages, Singers, Lords, Assassins (no Axe Users so far)... I wonder if we will have several characters or a class change system

As a not-so-fan of SMT and FE (I've only played SMT4 and FE:Awakening), I'm ok with what are they doing. It is possible that they did this to appeal for new SMT and FE fans, while giving a nod to old fans.

The visuals are great, unless you hate Anime in general. The song isn't bad either. Will reserve my comments for the gameplay, but the trailer gives a good impression of the game to me.

I think that dissonance in tone is especially present during the scene where the camera pans over a destroyed city, along with a woman happily singing in the background.
Yeah that was one of the points I especially noticed it.
There's just something off about the tone, and I think it's on purpose.
Have any of our more Japanese savvy members translated the song/its meaning? It does say Reincarnation.

Tsubasa is the only character that is not associated with a color based on those names: Kiria is black, Ki/ Itsuki is blue and Touma is red.

As far as I understand it the song is about someone who wants to crush (or heal) "the pain of loneliness". The speaker also talks about her true feelings (honne) and how everyone feels down sometimes. The final verse heared in the song literally translates to "I want to be reborn".

That actually sounds kind of depressing. I'm glad.

The song also talks about a city that never sleeps (presumably referring to Tokyo) and melancholy. The overall tone of the song reminds me a lot of the opening song for Madoka Magica, to be honest. I'm pretty sure that the game is hiding something.

Awesome! That has me even more excited for new info! I hope we at least get some interviews or tidbits of info come out leading up to the next showing of it.

I mean that SMT IV literally had Kamen Rider and Sentai designers doing some of the demon designs.

Interesting. I could definitely see the game taking a much darker turn.

Very interesting. I wonder what direction the plot will follow.

Tsubasa looks pink to me. Lyrics seem pretty cool. I'm very interested in seeing what they show off next, hopefully at E3.

That's not quite what I meant though. The surnames for Kiria, Itsuki and Touma all have a kanji for a specific color in them. Kiria has 黒 which means black, Itsuki has 蒼 which means blue or green and Touma has 赤, the kanji for red. Tsubasa's doesn't have a kanji like these and I wonder whether that means something.

I don't think anyone took a screencap of this. We're going full sentai here!

Now, I'm not up to date on all my FE characters, but the only one I know of with white armor and red clothing that uses a spear is Titania.

However, I could be overthinking the whole FE tie in thing.

Having just read a novel that played with that very idea, I was certainly inclined to wonder the same.

赤城 is definitely read as Akagi instead of Akaki. Playing Kancolle for years make me recognize the reading since the same Japanese aircraft carrier Akagi is written as that too lol

Given how close Chrom looks to his source, and Aversa / Gangrel's clear points of similarity, I think they'll at least try to incorporate specific FE characters into every demon(?).

Titania would fit, but in this case I wonder if it might be a Wyvern / Dragon Knight / Rider of some sort, going by the design on the helmet and the fire motif. While it's probably not actually intended to be her, the design does look pretty similar to Altena.

And while Jill and Titania are typically pictured with axes, Altena inherits the spear Gae Bolg, which, while not all that visually similar to the weapon that character is using in most of its incarnations, at least bears as much of a resemblance to it as the Chrom analogue's sword does to Falchion. It'd also double as a SMT reference...

Yeah, the fire throws me off, as does the emblem on the mask. That said, it's white armor with a gold trim and red underneath. Only person I know with that mix is Titania:

latest

However, she was always pictured with a halberd, not a spear. Could be Altena. Could be a Pegasus Knight.

There's also a clip in the trailer that shows the team's archer, and I can't find any analogues. The icon next to her name looks like Virion, but her outfit doesn't resemble him in the slightest.

Guys, what if the main characters are forced to act like stereotypical animu characters and dress in ridiculous outfits to satisfy a race of otherworldly, sadistic, gross monsters after killing most of the human race?

Well we haven't seen anything about how they act to say the act stereotypical, if anything the girl saying "you will not escape" may seem kinda stereotypical but that's it.

Going to be sad and laugh at the same time, when this is gonna be the first SMT game that comes to the west translated to PAL5.
Laugh because im happy that finally thanks to being also a FE game its going to PAL5, sad because some of my friends that really want to will never experience games like Persona or other SMT games cause of lack of english skills.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
Thanks for reminding me that Xenoblade X was at last E3 as part of treehouse live. If that wasn't the case I'd have doubted seeing anything at E3.
Don't forget that hyrule warriors was reveled like in Jan and was told if we coming out in the fall, and then we heard nothing until E3 and then everything changed, this is coming out winter 2015, so I think it would he perfect to reveal more, they have been working on this for like 2 years after all, and with the the confusion, even more so than HW, it would probably have to have info at E3 to set the record straight.

I hadn't noticed it before, but there's a poster in the music store shown in the trailer with the writing "One of Millennium". In SMT2, there was a city called "Tokyo Millennium" built after the destruction of the original Tokyo (by a demon war and
divine flood
). The city was divided in several areas, one of them completely different from the others, basically a paradise.
However, that area turns out to be just people plugged into a computer simulation.

Now, it could be just a meaningless reference, but considering how there are Tiki posters right next to that one, and she's actually in the game as a character, it could be relevant too. There's also the game's title and that one shot of the ruined and flooded city.

Huh, that raises my suspicions even more. I know that the destroyed city shot is definitely a reference to the first two SMT games specifically because of the way in which it's destroyed. Now that there's a possible reference to God's Millenium Kingdom, this has gotten a lot more interesting. This game is definitely hiding something, and I'm intrigued to find out just what those things are.

I think I've got the right idea here, but just to make sure, FE villains are bosses, heroes are summons, and Tiki is this game's Igor? (Important NPC for those who haven't played Persona)

We aren't completely sure about heroes, since there are no confirmed names in the trailers. We see Chrom as what looks like an enemy of some sort, but we also see Chrom's face profile and Falchion silhouette over the main male characters' icon in a different shot. We also see the heroes doing two different things, attacking alongside summons, like that bike, and actually transforming into something else. So, it's really not clear at this point.

the daily life stuff is a computer simulation
it would explain the background characters as well
in reality shits fucked

That's what I believe.
If not a computer simulation, then some sort of illusion.
The best part is the double purpose. The illusion tricked people on NeoGaf!

Even if it's some kind of illusion, the idol theme looks pretty strong, like all gameplay battle scenes shown taking place in locations that resemble stages. So, it likely still won't match people's initial expectations.

Although there seems to be a majority opinion right now that this game will deal with daily life routine, like Persona, and I don't think it's going there. So, that might be enough to change some people's tune.

What if it's like Persona 4 (in order to not cite Persona, I could have said Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko, but no one would get it) and different segments of the game go through dramatic aesthetic shifts that represent different facets of the entertainment industry (idols, live shows with the sentai character acting...).

It probably does lean fairly into the idol stuff, but I guess it's just a possibility. It's not like every battle will take place in the idol gladiator arena, and some of the battle UI such as "artist" for attacking characters or the "Session" combo display could be changed to something else to represent a different visual style.

In the battle scene you can see the idol girl in her school uniform at one point , after coming up on the turn gauge. So does that mean that there's ~3 "forms" ("Normal", "Idol", "Transformed / FE" but then there's also the bit where they seem to fuse with Fire Emblem stuff, in the last cutscene you see her saved by a pegaus that then transforms into a robo pegasus that she jumps into). You also see a transform from normal to idol looking part way through (though its very subdued, just a flash change so maybe the idol-ish look is the default battle look ? ).

ETA -This interests me but my reaction is still WTF?. This isn't what I'd expect even from a Persona X SMT crossover. Though I feel I should point out that the idea that Persona (even post 3) is upbeat is a very shallow reading. P3 is actually pretty depressing in a lot of ways thematically (its about death and sacrifice and how that may perhaps bring about change) , P4 is pretty upbeat on the surface but one of its major themes is about how media is deceitful (and how we deceive ourselves) (and the game actively tries to trick you out of the True Ending), its only through overcoming that deceit that you get the good ending.

Oh I know that, I merely meant that the game won't be some over blissful Persona as some implied.

We see "Aversa" being summoned in the middle of the city, and the blue haired girl confronts her there in the end of the trailer, but the gameplay battle shows them fighting in the idol stage.

FExSMT_11_zpsqbzfuy7x.jpg

We also see, among other variations, an idol stage that seems to have a more medieval fantasy like styling. So, I think there's a strong possibility that every battle scene automatically changes location to a stage, with a theme based on the current area - think about Paper Mario, where the battles always take place in a theater.

So maintaining the idol motif throughout, but still changing the aesthetic it pertains to throughout the game? Yeah, I could see that.
