Ava won, Boyd lost, and he gets to live wirhout knowing something quite important. That's very devilish, truth being told. And he doesn't deserve that knowledge at all. Let him carry on with his delusions and no longer torment her or his offspring.

I liked the finale. It didn't tie everything up, which may be too much to ask and maybe putting a nice bow on everything take the wonder away. Let something's float out there. We can fill in the gaps ourselves or write the futures for them. For the main group of characters we've followed we do get closure for them. That's what matters the most.

Goodbye Justified. I cherish our time together. The existence of this show is closer aligned with the start of my current job, so I'll never forget the link between the two.

Thanks to FX and everyone involved.

How about Rachel (Erica Tazel), Tim (Jacob Pitts) and Art (Nick Searcy)? Where do you see them in the future?

We don't say anything about Gutterson. We assume that Art retired. After four years, he'd be out of the line of service. But there is a clue about Rachel [in the finale]. When Art and Raylan are saying goodbye, Nelson comes in and says, "There's a call from the Seattle chief, where's Rachel?" ... and then when Raylan gets that envelope with the picture of Ava in the newspaper, up in the corner, it says, "Seattle Office, U.S. Marshal Service." And written above that, in handwriting, is Rachel Brooks. So she's in Seattle. She's maybe not the chief yet, but she's on her way.

That's how you wrap up a series. With SOA, I wanted certain characters to die and the show to just end. With Justified, I wanted everyone to live and the show to go on. For a few seasons I wasn't sure which show I liked better. But Justified stayed true to what made it good and stayed good. One of the few series I can recommend from beginning to end.

Thought the finale was great. The final scene was easily one of the series' best. Perfect way to end the show.

Ack! Bummer, man. I've gotten spoiled a few times on other shows (The Sopranos, The Wire) by reading interviews and think pieces on unrelated subjects, so I'm always wary about that sort of thing. Wariness only gets you so far though (especially when it comes to Sepinwall pieces...). :/

What a great finale my god. I was totally expecting Raylan to die and that shot with Boone was fucking terrifying.

I got misty eyed seeing Ava and her kid, it just felt right.

Everything about this I loved. I don't really have many words for it because I'm still letting the fact that Justified is over for good wash over me in bittersweetness.

"We dug coal together."

One thing that kind of bums me out is that Loretta didn't get one more final scene with Raylan. I would have liked to watch them spar one last time.

After thinking about it a bit, I'm almost glad that they went for a really quiet ending. I mean, people died, but our principle characters were able to leave Harlan alive.

"We dug coal together/That's right" may be one of the better finale lines of dialogue that I've ever seen.

Wasn't a huge fan of how quickly everything in the beginning played out. Everything felt like it was being restricted by time constraints. Loved the 2nd half though, so I'm glad they got through the stuff they needed to see some closure for everyone. Last scene between Raylan and Boyd was perfect.

What a great finale. i do think they could've done with a 50-55 minute runtime to let things stew a bit longer, but that might just be me wanting more Justified. Loved the turns they took to get to that final scene. The showdown with Boon, that massacre in the barn, Markham dropping the charm in his final few scenes, Boyd not drawing on Raylan, that Diet Raylan cop talking to Raylan like Raylan's always talked to criminals, Art and Raylan intimidating the deputy in the bar......just so many great scenes leading up to the reveal of Boyd preaching again and that final conversation.

Forever underrated, the void Justified leaves won't be easily filled. To sum it all up:

yeah an extra 5-10 minutes would have helped this finale,all we saw from loretta was her boot. raylan's stand off was as awesome as expected, i love how boon was such a great last minute addition, building the suspense from the moment he got there to the very end.

gonna miss this show. i got 3 versions of "you'll never leave harlan alive" though which is nice

Boone over estimated himself n underestimated raylan going for the head. He did what the kid did to him earlier.

Great finale, better than I expected, definitely up there as far as series finales go as well.

Now I need to start over from the beginning and watch it all again.

Good finale though I'm not sure if I'd call it great. Boyd shootout with Markham in particular felt anticlimactic. Fortunately Boon's duel with Raylan made up for it.

And yeah, would have really liked more of a send off for Tim, Rachel, Loretta.

But most of all, goddamn you Winona ! (&#65417;&#3237;&#30410;&#3237;&#65289;&#65417;&#65279; &#9531;&#9473;&#9531;



Think I'm going to revisit some pre S5 - Dewey centric episodes.

Show ended great. The first half did feel rushed, but they landed the ending. Gonna miss watching Justified.

It's sad but the truer ending with respects to the characters of Winona and Raylan. Losing any chance with Winona was the price Raylan paid for finishing his job in Harlan.

I was impressed that Raylan was on friendly terms with Winona's current husband.

Just watched the finale, not gonna lie, i cried. Such an amazing show that everytime i think about it it pisses me off that it wasnt more popular. Goggins and Olyphant were just so perfectly cast. Cant believe its over.

Haha raylan matured by series end - of course he'd be OK with winona's husband, he's there for willa.

Yeah, I don't think Winona and Raylan were ever going to work, having already tried twice before. Still, it would have been nice.

I didn't even realize the connection to Rachel with the letter. This is why I need to start paying for HD cable.

Many reviewers and viewers have pointed it out, but the shows greatest sin is easily how little time it gave to Rachel and Tim (and even Art, to a certain extent). Great characters played by actors giving great performances (when they were allowed to) who were given short shrift, unfortunately, in service to the main trio of Rayaln, Boyd, and Ava.

That was a great ending to a great show. Jusitified will be missed :(

Feels like I've forgotten a fair amount from the earlier seasons, so a re-watch this summer might be a good idea(or Deadwood for even more Olyphant).

Not gonna lie: I was actually kind of worried for a second when Raylan went toe-to-toe. The amount of blood from that gib had me thinking they were going to go down a REALLY dark road for the ending.

That last conversation really ended things perfectly, absolutely nailed the complicated relationship that Raylan and Boyd have. I'm glad Ava made it out, and is going to live a life on the straight and narrow.

I'm gonna really miss this show. It's a show that has changed my perception of the south, the people, and the culture. I'm glad Ava got a happy ending. She's been dealt a bad hand too many times. I love the brotherhood that is coal mining and it being the perfect way to end a show set in Harlan, Kentucky.

That was a beautiful send off to a truly wonderful series. Can't wait for people to discover it on Netflix as I feel like it remained a little too under the radar throughout its broadcast run; I want to talk about it in more places than here!

Boyd's wistful "We dug coal together" ranks in my mind as one of the best "closing" lines in TV history and was a perfect summation of Justified. The show was ultimately about characters being forced into constant confrontations with inevitable, inescapable pasts and I simply loved seeing him and Raylan embrace that. Plus it's from the original story!

It's also a callback to their confrontation at the end of the pilot episode (which obviously comes from the story). After Raylan shoots Boyd at the dinner table at Ava's, he says he's sorry. Then it flashes back to them running out of a mine together, and Ava asks why he said he was sorry and Raylan responds "Boyd and I dug coal together." And that's the end of the scene.
