XCOM 2 was announced this morning, and is hitting in the Fall. 2K themselves refer to it as "Triple-A".

This might seem minor, but I don't think it's too similar a case because: this game was announced pre-E3, and Fallout 4 is an open-world RPG, which will most likely have a much higher budget (and general level of mainstream anticipation) than XCOM 2.

It's a good example, though, but I really don't think it's that comparable to a Fallout 4. And don't get me wrong: I prefer shorter turnaround times for game announcements to release—and, hey, maybe it's even better when it comes to sales performance and hype—but I really, really don't see this happening with a game like Fallout 4. I am 100% convinced that it can't happen; I see anything else as simply hoping it would happen.

Better to not have hype trains so that we don't hear complaints about falling for more blind hype.

There'll still be complaints. Many will manage to convince themselves to expect 10 AAA announcements of their personal dream games without the help of an insider fuelled GAF Hype Thread.

LOL why does this feel like PSX all over again? People start hyping up Shenmue 3, TLG, Crash....then TWE just goes on with his teasing...

I really think that this is the year for Final Fantasy XII HD. I know some people are saying that they'd only announce something like that at TGS, but I don't think it'd be odd for an E3 announcement. I mean, they announced Type-0 HD at E3 last year.

Honestly, I think it does better to games to have them announced and then release soon after. If it isn't released relatively close afterwards the hype is lost.

It's a very confusing field, but still, I mostly agree with.

No Man Sky's was something that people thought awesome and at the same time didn't know what to do with. So many options that they can't handle.

Was talked 2 years in a row, most people don't have a single drop of hype for it now.

Cyberpunk 2077, was showed ONCE. People loved that **** and are still hyped.
Whatever oportunity apears, they ask CDPR.

Again, it's a confusing field.

It seems you're mostly focusing on console games, and you're excluding September. Then, aside from Persona 5, No Man's Sky and Just Cause 3, which you mentioned:
  • XCOM 2
  • Guitar Hero Live
  • Rock Band 4
  • Yakuza 5
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5
  • The Witness
  • Tales of Zestiria
  • Star Fox
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider
  • Need for Speed
To name a few of the notable ones.
I actually forgot about Star Fox and Tomb Raider somehow. Well maybe because I expect Star Fox to either be a 2016 release or a small episodic game and Tomb Raider hasn't really grabbed me that much plus I think it's possible that it becomes another game hit with a delay. THPS5 actually looks really bad at the moment which is upsetting. Maybe if I can find my old Rock Band Instruments or pool my money together with some other people I'd take a stab at Rock Band 4. The rest don't really interest me.

Honestly, I think it does better to games to have them announced and then release soon after. If it isn't released relatively close afterwards the hype is lost.
Yep. This needs to be done more. If not for the leak, Bloodborne's time between announcement and release would have been perfect. Frankly, for games in established franchises that we know are coming, the time between announcement and release should be pretty short since we know what we're getting into and don't want to see too much plus the information can be released consistently over 4-6 months as opposed to randomly over 18. New IPs should be given more time for marketing purposes.

How much marketing does Fallout 4 really need? A few trailers, a gameplay blowout at E3, a Game Informer Cover, and some commercials should be more than enough. Word of mouth is what sells games more than anything else. People will tell their friends about it and Twitter is going to explode with Fallout 4 hashtags. Reviews are guaranteed to be in the mid to upper 90s so that should sell it to many who are skeptical and get the name out even more. You don't need a massive marketing budget over an entire year if the fans and media are willing to do the work for you in half of that time.

This is the year Sean Murray needs to come on stage and do a 5-10 minute play through of No Man's Sky and be like...

"Okay, I am on planet Krypticon and what I feel like doing today is such and such so I'm going to go and do that and take it to this other planet (seamlessly) where I'll interact with something else and I'll see the fruits of my labour."

Until then, I just can't get excited by the game. They speak about how you can do whatever you want but all they show is dramatic walking to 65DaysOfStatic.

I think to combat Fallout 4 not being a 2015 title, Bethesda will instead have Fallout 3 and New Vegas remastered for the current gen. 1080p 60fps all DLC one disc

Eh, I don't want to see dedicated stage time to No Man's Sky anymore. It's likely we'll see that at Sony's, but I feel like I've seen enough of it shown on stage, with the same kind of presentation and that I've heard the same talks about the game that I'd rather either it be kept to a preview-like cycle where people get their hands on it, or something else that's not just a slow paced explanation of what players will experience when playing the game.

I guess I'm just saying I wouldn't be too happy if an NMS segment came up.

Speaking of Judges' Week, i'm interested in what the GCA for Best game of E3 this year will be. Their last two choices (Evolve and Titanfall) haven't had the reception you'd expect for something that won as many pre-release awards as they did.
Guessing Fallout 4 if it's playable if not, then Uncharted 4 or maybe Battlefront.

Oh, I totally agree - I'm sorta sick of hearing about it. But I think it's inevitably going to show up after their comments about treating the title like a 1st Party one.

Jeez, guys, leave poor worthy alone.

If he has something interesting to say, he can feel free to PM me and Ill see whether his teases are justified.

It doesn't need to be said that obviously I will keep quiet and remain 100% discreet.

Actually, you know what, I'll actually go on record as being OK with being banned by a mod if I opened my mouth.

Just an idea.

Yup. Most of.

Nope. I love No Man's Sky. I've defended with bare fists when people wanted an open-universe-destiny.

People didn't know what to spect from No Man's Sky there were several topics about it...
Really frustrating seen those.

How did you quantify that more people are excited for Cyberpunk over No Man's Sky? Wondering what the game part of a game is and enquiring about status of an announced game cannot be quantified as excitement.

I can use your logic and say that I see Morpheus thread everywhere. In all of those threads people talk about how No Man's Sky is perfect for Morpheus and it should be Morpheus launch game. Therefore I conclude that People are hyped for both Morpheus and to play No Man's Sky on it.

Is Verendus doing another ridiculous avatar bet this conference??

I think he started something, but later said that he will do the real one closer to E3.

Was talked 2 years in a row, most people don't have a single drop of hype for it now.

Umm... What?

Plenty of people are hyped for it. Although I'll agree that it doesn't seem like the games media have as much interest as they did around the reveal.

And as for fallout, I see no reason why it couldn't release this year. Yes, big games like this aren't typically released a few months after a reveal, but in today's day and age, I can't see why it wouldn't work.

Imagine a big e3 blowout, followed by an in depth gameplay trailer in late August. And you know they're going to advertise this everywhere regardless of what year it releases. It will be all over twitter and Facebook and will have ads in print, on the Internet and on television.

"From the studio that brought you Skyrim".

Done.

What is the point of the slow trickle of info? Yes, it's more time to build up hype, but on the other hand, more time to lose it. With the immediate availability of media today, I can't see any benefit to it anymore.

There must be a reason that publishers keep doing it, though. It seems to be worse in the film industry, with a plethora of projects announced that will only be released years from now. There's probably some marketing data, investor related business, retail related business or whatever that makes the relatively long turnaround times worth it.

Bethesda wasn't there, I don't think any of the Big 3 were there or at least Sony wasn't, and Battlefront wasn't there

So it's pretty hard to determine who won. Maybe Rainbow Six Siege if we continue the trend of multiplayer only games winning. If Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was there then maybe that? Maybe Mass Effect if that was the unannounced game.

I understand were I misleaded you in my logic.

Every time cdpr is at media people talk/ask about cyberpunk 2077.

The same can't be said about any VR announcement, or Sony conference. Even if talked, it's by a minory.

It's not about if people understand or not, even if it helps people to like something.
It's about popularity. How many times people talked about no man's sky at E3 for been excited to hear some news?

Ser the posts in this thread as a pure example. It's sad, but true.
If people are like "damn I want to see nms" and remember it constantly, they are hyped. But if they are "Oh, they talked about nms. I remember that. Its going to be awesome", its not hype.

A sensible answer, but I think it's really just a hangover from before the rise of social media. Smaller companies have announced and released games in shorter time periods, so I really don't see why one of the biggest developers/publishers out there couldn't do it. After the success of Skyrim, everyone's going to want a piece of what bethesda do next. If they were to turn around and say "we release in November", the only people who may worry are other publishers who were planning to release their games in the same time period.

And for all we know, the wheels may already be in motion with regards to the investors/retailers/marketing.

I admit that I may have a simplistic view of things, but I really can't see why such a big publisher would have problems with this. I admit that people may be wary of "doing a beyonce", but if they were to release at the end of November, they'd have five and a half months from reveal.

I'd probably guess that it's going to be something unannounced, kinda like Titanfall.

I'm hyped as hell for NMS, so, not sure what you mean.

You are probably mistaking the lack of promo by Sony who are probably waiting for E3 for a new push for a supposed lack of hype.

I know its probably way too early since TW3s release but I would love a Cyberpunk tease. I'm trying to stay realistic this year so I'll be happy with more Uncharted and a reveal of GG's new game. Anything else will be a bonus.
Fallout 4 on top of those 2 would make this a killer E3.

The only one that has any real meaning to me would be TLG.

Now they could show me irrefutable proof of its existence, but it wouldn't mean a thing until I saw it on Sony's stage at a presser.

And even then, I probably wouldn't believe it till I saw a release date and I could pre order it.

And even then, I probably wouldn't believe it till I saw it on my tv screen at home loading a day one patch.

And even then, I probably wouldn't believe it till I saw the credits roll, planning a 2nd playthrough on new game +.

You get the drift?

I've just been let down too many times.

People.. Just... ok.

There are people hyped for No Man's Sky.
I don't doubt it. I'm one of you.

But here me out. When was the last time you saw any news about No Man's Sky?
When was the last you talked to a friend or a friend talked to you about it?

There are types of hypes, and I know it will create another inside topic about "what type of hypes exists? Which is the true one?", but it's not the point.

At the exactaly moment, No Man's Sky is not that much hyped. And it deserve to be hyped as hell.

New IPs that are more the experiential type of games are hard to build massive hype on.

It's interesting and eye-catching to say the least, but it's not something easy to "hype."

It'll be interesting to see how they handle the game this e3. I think the game has extraordinary potential. If it's still a while (say 2016) out then I kinda think its better they don't show anything here. It'll just dilute the message further.

This game needs one final blowout close to release and that's it.

Did you miss the gargantuan article posted on the New Yorker recently? Also, hello games have gone into crunch mode and said we won't hear from them for a while. So with that in mind, what kind of news are you expecting? They're a small team. When they're ready, they're ready.

When was the last you talked to a friend or a friend talked to you about it?

You might want to rethink this statement, since all you can possibly get are anecdotal answers. Want mine? I talk about this game all the time with a few friends of mine. Of course, we all happen to be extremely interested in space and the universe.

At the exactaly moment, No Man's Sky is not that much hyped. And it deserve to be hyped as hell.

Yeah, but what do you do?
/s

Some people aren't hyped because they don't believe that a game based on exploring a randomly generated universe is "enough". I pity those people.

I heard all news about them. They are really awesome. I watched even their entire music presentation.

They shot fews news, almost none, but I'm there reading.

The answer to that question will be always yes. Just the people who cares for no man's sky will reply. But if you just reply and don't think in just your close friends, see a communit or something big, do the comparison.

Again, I would love that they were more hyped and hope they will get a gigant hype when he introduced with morpheus.

I will buy morpheus if it's just for them *-*
