WSJ Rumor: NX to "work with" PS4, smartphones, PC

I assume the PS4 compatibility thing, if that is fact, is merely a statement that online NX games can be made to interact with PS4 equivalents, something that Square-Enix would be excited about with, say, another Dragon Quest X port (which IIRC is already announced for NX). Obviously the Wii U already runs on cross-platform DQX servers (I think) but it's not exactly a well-publicized Nintendo policy.

But the post below this one seems equally realistic.

English isn't his first language so information from him usually ends up confusing people.
The PS4 part could mean it could rival it with its power or run games on it.

Honestly, this makes the most sense. Especially when re-reading it. The tweet is saying that the NX will rival it's competitors in power.

good old Nintendo..

Could have been a hint all along...

I was also thinking about how we call it "N" "X"... but maybe it's "N" "CROSS", like how Xenoblade Chronicles X is actually said as "Xenoblade Chronicles Cross"

Somehow, I feel the 900p rumor from the other thread and this work together...

I don't see them issuing APPs for various other platforms... unless that is EXACTLY what they plan to do... go "multiplatform" in a new and unique way... but this really would be going multiplatform. And I still doubt that is what they plan to do...

And if this was the plan, their games would need to be quite scalable, or at least adhere to the lowest common denominator...

It could allow streaming from your home NX console device to any platform that can display the content and receive input. Like a Slingbox/Plex server. So it can go to an NX handheld (could be a 3DS), a smartphone, a PS4, a PC or whatever else you can get the app on. I wonder if it can be browser based, a la Chrome, so then it really opens up without the need for an app.

Isn't this something a developer can already include in online games? For example, IIRC, DQX has cross-gampley between PC and Wii U.

This would be great, but it would mean the handheld gaming would be limited to a strong Wifi connection... and I don't see that happening. But it would be a great feature on the side. I'm still trying to figure out how the Handheld part fits in...

i'm guessing they are referring to the nintendo social app, 2nd screen feature, and similar... not their streaming service or digital game store.

Gibbogame is a Frobes Contributor

Take this with large amounts of grains of salt

Except that
Senior Analyst and Regional Head, Macquarie Research Japan

He used to live tweet their earnings conferences etc. His employer asked him to stop though.

Not all Forbes contributors are twits. A lot of them are legit, Forbes just uses the contributor model to get more content on their site, and yes they are sometimes lax in whom they let contribute.

However this doesn't invalidate what this guy does. He is legit. This though seems like something was lost in translation.

Maybe a dedicated web portal that allows you to play console nx games away from your home console but on a display while using your handheld nx as verification & a controller. App could work on pc, mobile and other consoles if they want to license it. Would be fine

Could it be that you could potentially use a smartphone, PC or PS4/XBONE as part of your Supplementary Computing Device LAN?

I am guessing here: It is capable of streaming to various devices via a program probably android based maybe even web streaming so , everything on earth can display NX games... Like the nvidia shield ??? And maybe the "handheld" will even use this so no special rare wifi chip this time as wiiu and gamepad...

In what world will Nintendo and Sony allow Nintendo games to be played on your PS4, though? That would make no sense in so many ways.

Peeps pls read through the thread and not just the OP. This is a game of telephone mjnd of mess of a leak. We could just as easily be talking about cross-console online play or just rivaling the power of another system.

the patent stated basically you could use anything as a SCD. I imagine though Sony/MS will figure out a way to lock their systems out of course.

I called it a long time ago - NX tablet can be any Android or iPad tablet or one of Nintendo's making running Android.

This would not make sense. Nintendo has already said NX is a dedicated gaming system. They are already making games that can be played on your tablet separately. (Also, please see my above posts for which this rumor is just confusing FUD....)

If the NX is a cloud based gaming system, I just don't think I could get behind that.

AFAICT these rumours seem to indicate almost the opposite.

Basically a 'Nintendo games server' that you plug in, and can then play Nintendo games at 900p@60 on 'any' device with a screen/controller/wifi connection?
