PlayStation Middle East might be teasing Crash on Twitter

To be fair, I kinda figured the decline in quality of the games post-ND is what caused that.

That's subjective. The last few Crash games, despite what any one person may think about the direction, were honestly pretty good and were successful enough to keep Crash going. But there was a long string of unpolished and uninspired before the last couple games, though. Especially Twinsanity and WOC. Twinsanity is the definition of "unpolished" and WOC is the definition of "uninspired".

Even though you didn't mention this, I'm going to - you can't blame it on sales either. Crash games have never drastically declined in sales. With proper marketing, they do more than adequate for their budgets. Titans and MOM both sold over 2 million through, and believe me, they were not AAA budget games. Especially the latter which was basically sent to die with little to no advertising.

The point is being missed by focusing on how relevant the genre is. Sony isn't doing it for a great commercial success or as a way to revitalize the genre. It would be great if those things occurred, of course, but this is for fan pleasing and good will more than anything else.

Probably not. But I could see someone like Sanzaru working on it.

That's a good thing, ND now is much different from the dev who made Crash and Jak.

Here is the problem. While people keep dreaming of Crash coming back...they expect the perfect comeback. They want Sony to own IP again, for ND to develop the game and for the game to be like the old games.

If this game does come back, it will not be what people expect. It will be licensed most likely, be by some crap team and game play be outdated and the eventual $60 announced price will have people screaming it should be a $20 game due to "old school gameplay" or "simple" to say the least.

I say let it die. Sony wouldnt put too much effort in a theoretical Crash game in 2016+. Only big IPs get the nice treatment unless Bluepoint is involved in the project.

One of the big reasons that the Yooka-Laylee Kickstarter was so successful was because of the pedigree and history of the developers behind it. If it was just a platformer like Banjo-Kazooie it would have likely still have been successful, but not to the level that it was. (See A Hat in Time) But since it was a new spiritual B-K title with most of the original team behind it, people were excited and threw money at it.

Crash doesn't have that luxury. Naughty Dog is done with platformers and even and moreso with Crash since Sony doesn't own the license.

Stack that on top of the audience on the PS4 being wholly uninterested in platformers and I can't imagine why Sony would waste their time with bringing Crash back.

Today's industry wants hardcore, mature, violent shooters and action games. There's no place for Crash these days, especially on the PS4.

What shocks me is that other than Activision's hold on he IP, Crash is a franchise that would greatly stir up more excitement and sales than the Sly franchise, yet Sanzaru is got the go ahead to make a full blown sequel.

Because, as I pointed out above, this isn't about any of that. There are tons of games Sony gives the go ahead despite knowing full they won't bring in profit and/or light up their genre. They don't care. It is about making what they want to make and, in this case, satisfying fans.

They're probably doing something with Activision for the 20th Anniversary. Though I doubt there's going to be some some major Crash revival. I could see them doing a smaller digital title that's maybe just a mix of select levels from the first 3 games but redone in HD.

No way. They either go all out with this or not all. I expect a full AAA release.

This better not just be teasing Crash of the Titans on PSN.

I was thinking this as well. Of all Crash models to use, PS Mid East went with the Titans look. I'm sure it's just a re-release of either Crash of the Titans or Mind Over Mutant PS2 versions on PS4.

...Which is weird since there's already an HD version of both in the Xbox 360 versions. So strange that they might do that.

doesnt make much sense. Since Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin left a long time ago. idk how Naughty Dog developing Crash has to do with anything. Sony released Knack as a proof of concept. Sega wouldnt be releasing mediocre after mediocre Sonic games if there was no market. Also Mario. why on earth would Sony just left Nintendo have all the platformer market, when they have market share. They have room for risk and reward.

From what I've seen of Knack, it's not really a platformer in the traditional sense.

Sonic's game releases have slowed to a crawl these days, and the majority of them release on the Wii U, which is home to a fanbase of customers the buy platformers, such as Mario.

Awe shiet, hopefully they go big with the return. This is how Shawn will enter the stage. He will para shoot down from the mouth of a Crash Jaeger onto the stage to announce a new crash.

dat pic

lmao my sides!!

Whqt about god of war?

Super clearly on the way.

Also, whois reports show someone allegedly did something to update CrashBandicoot.com a couple days ago. Not a domain renewal. Increase grains of salt, since the site is still down and has been since 2013.

As much as I want to believe, I don't think this is a credible tease.

I don't see why Sony would choose the PlayStation Middle East Twitter account as the first location to drop a hint, especially after the post from May that turned out to be nothing. (And something as big/important as Crash would obviously be coordinated). I think it's likely just a Crash fan running the account that likes to toy with fan's emotions.

At E3, Activision does their usual CoD demo at the Sony presser and Hirchberg leaves the stage... only to come back out and tap Layden on the shoulder. Btw guys we forgot theres one more game were bringing to PS4 this fall.... Crash gameplay on screen. Crowd goes nuts. Developer is shown to be Platinum Games. People lose their shit. PS4 console exclusive at the end. Meltdowns ensue.

Didn't we get an insider hint in that thread following Laydens t shirt at PSX?

The idea being it was another FFVII job and they were teasing it at PSX for an E3 announcement.

Maybe the insider was just speculating too.

Either way I hope they make a good open 3D platformer that is closer to Jak and Daxter with a Crash coat of paint than a true Crash 1-3 homage.

If they could just get the original dev team back toegther. It's only like 7 guys.

I still want tight platforming, but an open presentation as you've said. Set it on the original 3 Wumpa Islands and don't divide it into levels.

Literally all the time. This isn't the first time some PlayStation related Twitter has tweeted something about crash as just some sort of nostalgia bait. And when layden wore that shirt on stage I said the exact words as soon, "GAF will freak out and nothing will come of it."

Not to mention the first tease in that Sony retrospective which seemed pretty damning at the time. But alas.

Fans of the series need to accept they are literally in hell right now.

People bring up the PS4 TV commercial with a Crash traffic sign every time we get close to any kind of industry event.

And sometimes random branches of Sony regions will do a social media post about Crash because it's easy engagement based on nostalgia.

Yet people take it as a hint, when it's just using brand nostalgia for marketing.

I would love a new crash game. Especially if done by naughty dog

But I dont know if the market would appreciate them to go from Hollywood blockbuster- like games to a mascotte - based game like this

Couldn't Sony have some sort of time exclusive deal on Crash for PS4? It gets released on other platforms half year to a year later? I don't think Acti wants to leave that much money on the table

I doubt Sony would have bought the IP. Activision would have seen that the PSone classics haven't left the top 10 in years. I'd wager Sony will have a timed exclusive Crash game coming.

Rockefellers. Skull and Bones. Microsoft. Al Qaeda. A Cabal of Bankers. The melting point of steel. What do these things have in common? Wake up sheeple, the landfill wasn't even REAL!

They (Activision and Sony) can make a few bucks through an HD remaster of Crash and merchandise. I'd be shocked if they didn't announce the return of Crash this year.

Lining up the evidence like that, it's obviously going to happen. I don't think it's a huge deal personally, but I'm happy to have more platformers and if this is the gateway for more PS1 era goodness then bring it on!

I thought the first 3 games were pretty good, and in terms of presentation they look much better than most games of the time. I always thought Crash himself was awful, not even close to the top of anthropomorphised mascots. That stuff really peaked in the 16 bit era honestly. But, that won't stand in the way of the game being good!
