Is there this much fear surrounding the DNC? I keep hearing about the RNC causing people to freak out but not the DNC. Are both events expected to get hit with violence?

It's hard to tell, seems like a lot of people are rooting for violence at the convention.

Nobody is rooting for anything. It's just sane people can see the train wreck coming and all the things that could have been done to help prevent it.

But no shit hopefully nothing happens.

What? Why would anyone want some stupid shit like that?

Who knows. People were laughing when that guy bull rushed Trump on stage a few months ago, and posters on this very site were cheering on the guy who tried to pull the gun out of the cop's holster hoping to shoot Trump. There are some messed up people out there.

I don't want violence, but I don't mind forcing Republicans to feel as uneasy as I do around open carry individuals.

RNC has Trump and a bunch of dummies stirring shit up especially with high race tensions in additional to an all you can carry gun buffet. It's a not a good situation. DNC is a typical political gathering that may attract oppositional crazies but with reasonable security and less antagonism.

I'm an attorney for the city of Philadelphia and I'd say people here are definitely worried about protests and violence/arrests/etc. resulting from that, but not so much about guns and such specifically. We don't have particularly strong gun laws here but it definitely hasn't been seen as an issue. Also, a lot (most, I think?) of the protests are pro-Bernie, so I think people aren't as worried that they'll devolve into mass chaos and violence.

With so many Good Guys With Guns™ in the area, surely there's no fear or a few bad guys with AR15s, right?

Last I heard the police are the good guys, no?

The mods deleted the posts and banned the posters. People who saw the thread at the time can corroborate.

People are saying it sarcastically in here. I didn't know if they were serious or not, based on how posters have reacted in other threads. If I'm not allowed to ask if someone's post should be taken at face value, I'll stop.

Smart move by the police chief. Even if this shouldn't be an issue in the first place, I just hope that everyone stays safe next week.

Well there is no move. The laws as they are now will stay in place. The governor can't do anything and already stated as much.

I think what he is trying to say is, people are going to get shot by us if you're posturing down here with assault rifles because we and the rest of the country are on edge.

All it will take is just one special asshole in the crowd that can set off a very scary chain of events.

First stay safe Manky Society

Second in the end it is the Republicans that take away gun rights....things that make you go hmmmmmmmm

Thank you for your concern Slayven. But Team Manky is going to be alright. We and the rest of Northeast Ohio GAF are using common sense.

Police and police unions have always been pro gun control. Can't control a populace if they have guns too. And this also explains the militarization of the police forces across the country.

Yeah that's what I figured :/ Thanks for answering! I hope everyone stays safe.

I agree with them, but find it saddening that it takes this much for people to realize this truth. Open carry should not be a thing.

State law in Ohio allows for licensed firearm owners to wear their weapons in public. With the exception of a small “secure zone” inside and around the Quicken Loans Arena, residents, delegates and protesters are legally permitted to walk around the city — including within its 1.7 square mile regulated “event zone” — any firearm not explicitly banned by the state.

Let's be clear. There is already no open carry allowed in certain areas. If this current limitation is happening, I don't understand why suddenly it's a constitutional issue to make the zone bigger? It's either open carry everywhere or nowhere if you want to make a constitutional issue out of it.

Limiting, but not limiting enough, is just a bad call by police.

It'd probably have to be done via the legislature.

Hilarious they want to get rid of gun free zones but are calling for their own convention to be gun free. Lmao

How? It's not the same people or parties.

Police Unions are not the RNC and vice versa.

Also police unions have been pro better gun regulation as well.

I would think the issue is right-wing factions are obsessed with defending the gospel of unions and police in general while ignoring the fact many do want to see gun control reforms.

i'm taking it one step further, in that i just got the hell out of dodge today before anything started other than those obnoxious planes with banners

(granted i'm also actually Central Ohio GAF for the foreseeable future, so)

The Democrats aren't the ones with rabid gun nuts as a huge part of their voter base.

I'd also expect they aren't going to have the presumably large group of protesters (pro or against) out and about during their convention. That's where shit is gonna get wild here..Trump brings out the fucking crazies.
