You're reading this wrong. He's saying NMS's online stuff would never work in an MMO, because the idea in NMS is to scatter people as far apart as possible, not bring them together.

reading it wrong or not, this hasnt happened, with anyone:

No Man’s Sky’s enormous world is also connected, so players can come together as they encounter new worlds. What happens when people find each other is as much a mystery as what they can do to those spaces.

Any new developments in the past 10 hours? There's been like 40 new pages since I went to bed, lol.

If that were the case they would have come out and said it by now

So someone from the OT went to see his Twitter... he is getting slammed with a Tweet every few seconds, literally, and barely any mention of this.

It is mostly questions about the game, bug, discoveries, etc., etc..

GAF is not the center of the Universe.... wait...

I wouldn't be surprised if their next patch.update planned is for people to actually be able to see each other and they just ninja update it and don't put that in the patch notes.

Although idk how long it would take for something like that to be developed, unless it was already being worked on.

Sean has basically said as much but people don't want that to get in the way of their narrative that the evil 12 person indie team is lying to them to steal their money.

"Basically".

He kinda sorta maybe implied that not everything is on the up and up because a lot of people are playing right now. While kinda sorta maybe implying that you shouldn't expect to see this happen ever, and should buy the game without that expectation.

Can we just all relax? The game is 100% functional. It's a great game. The fuck are we upset about? Not being able to see each other currently?

DAMMIT IF I CANNOT SEE NONINTERACTIVE AVATARS OF RANDOM PEOPLE ONCE IN A BLUE MOON AS I PLAY THE GAME BY MYSELF IN A DARK BASEMENT THEN THE EXISTENTIAL DREAD SETS IN.

It might be like Journey, where the interactions were premeditated by the devs. These interactions with other players would come gradually and end abruptly. You had no control over it. It gave it a sense of mystery and made some pretty cool but rare experiences. I'm guessing maybe some of these interactions will be sprinkled in through a LONG play through of NMS because of its rarity or maybe they will implement it later on through updates. Regardless, most people should have got the impression by how much Murray emphasized the point that this game isn't intended for any sort multiplayer play.

Seems pretty clear from those tweets that the servers are just being bombarded and can't keep up. This thread is such a mess. So many people with a weird agenda against indie games.

You think people's confusion is due to hang-ups about independent developers? What makes you think that?

I think the most frustrating part of this is the semi-vague twitter posts by Sean today, people just want to know.

This leaves everyone to speculate and jump the gun on the entire thing. It's getting messy.

While they are no doubt busy getting the PC version ready surely they could have found a few minutes during the day to clarify in plain language whether multiplayer was in or not? "Multiplayer is in the game but has an unlock condition" wouldnt rob it of any mystery but would put it to bed (likewise "Sorry, multiplayer isnt in the current build").

Haha, this is a great way of putting just how hyperbolic this entire thread is. We have a perfectly functioning game wherein multiplayer is barely feasible, even if it did currently work or was implemented or whatever the case might be, but here you have people flipping their shits for four thousand posts about how people have been lying. Can we just all relax? The game is 100% functional. It's a great game. The fuck are we upset about? Not being able to see each other currently?

Isn't understandable that some people are miffed that a developer wasn't upfront about a game's features and continues to not really address concerns?

It's cool if you really like NMS. No one's stopping you. But that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to be mad that a developer seems to have lied about one of the game's features.

I agree the PR has been bad on this issue. I expected to never cross paths with anyone, yet in the second system I was, someone had already been. I guess it's kind of nice in a way, but this 18 quintillion thing is strange. I have no idea how galaxies work, though. Solar systems are a mess, and not true solar systems. They're just planets bunched up way too close to each other. I really think it's a lost opportunity not to have a solar system map like in EVE. So I have no idea what galaxies are in NMS. Don't spoil it, if it is spoilable.

Just saw this video on Youtube, and it's probably the best one on this issue:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVrDaudzn64

There is some footage from that one interview everyone points to, but also a few other ones where Sean unequivocally hyped up the multiplayer components of the game (even going so far as to call cooperation with other players as necessary).

At this point the only thing that counts is the source code. That is the only way we could definitively prove this one way or another.

I DEMAND THE LONG FORM SOURCE!

SHOW US THE SOURCE!

THE SOURCE IS THE TRUTH!!!!!1

Do you go through life missing the point all the time or just today?

The enjoyment of the game or its quality are not in question here. We're talking about deceit.

Why don't you wipe Sean's ass while you're at it lol. There's no need to lump the game and the game dev in the same category. The gane can be good AND the dev could be a scumbag who lied to get more money..

This must be physically hurting you. Might want to take a break.

I'm glad this is getting attention. I have seen the likes of MS, Ubi, EA, etc get critsized, and rightfully so, about misleading and openended statements. In this case, it should be no difference. Period.

How is it that the boxes for this game are incoherently designed? Like forget the general public. You couldn't give a straight answer to the box people?

They really should have spread the planets out and just given the user faster speeds.

If I were to give Sean Murray and Hello Games the biggest benefit of the doubt, I'd say they don't want to detail what is going on because they want meeting people in the game to be related to some sort of in-game surprise/event.

I saw Sean Murray at a grocery store in London yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him about No Man's Sky or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

yeah...sure...

I'd be amusing if Sean made those tweets, then went to work again, doesn't check online until he's done for the day and then sees the internet has exploded (again).

If I were to give Sean Murray and Hello Games the biggest benefit of the doubt, I'd say they don't want to detail what is going on because they want meeting people in the game to be related to some sort of in-game surprise/event.

Well, he simply could have said something about: "You can meet people, but we won't tell 'how'. Have fun!

Umh, so I just peeled back the added sticker on my European LE, and what's underneath the 7 and mild violence sticker is 12, violence and a network icon. I'm sure this has been discussed?

At this point that wouldn't surprise me at all.
