Nintendo Switch presentation date finalized, Jan 12, 8pm PT/Jan 13, 5am CET

Here's the real question regarding this presentation. How much of it will leak over the holiday break?

You'd have to imagine details and launch line ups will be finalized before Christmas. How many of those devs will open their mouth and talk during their time off?

I hope nothing leaks from now till then. We've gotten a lot of leaks already, so it'd be cool to have a month of cool down during the holidays before the official event.

Okay, so then why tell everyone on the planet that more info will be revealed on Jan 11 then if the event was only for Japan? That makes no sense at all.
Because it still is the first reveal event? Of course you've gotta tell the world there's an event for the Switch. It's the first event!

I'll most likely go to bed early the night before, set my alarm for 3:30am, and take a half hour to get myself ready for the stream, then head back to bed after

5 am, huh?
No problems detected.

My hype will totally get out of hand until that day comes.
And still I have to contain it because I gotta check Amazon every 10 seconds to see if I can pre-order the Switch now. I will be super dissapointed if I won't be able to pre-order this console.

Why not just watch the event or read summaries after if the time is inconvenient for you

How dare you!

I do get the desire to watch it live... we want to know and witness things as they happen, it's pretty much a major facet of modern society- instant gratification.

But people also need to understand that the Earth happens to be spherical, such that global events will always be inconveniently timed for some regions. If only the Earth was flat, just like in the olden days... Sigh...

But it should be convenient or setup for the major markets to watch at reasonable times for both consumer/hardcore and press.

Especially since the writeups, or live updates publications do are how people get their news.

I'm really not sure what people were expecting. We already knew it was 12th in US and 13th in Japan which narrowed the time frame considerably, and this seems like the best possible compromise for an event we knew was taking place in Japan

The vast majority of the market isn't following anything like this live in any way shape or form. Only enthusiasts watch this stuff live

Well what are the major markets in this case? Japan, NA, Europe? How do you plan a several hours-long event in Japan that is timed conveniently for both NA and Europe?

And remember, there will be local events for the following two days in several locations worldwide (NY, London, Paris, probably more) in which press can get hands on time and write plenty of articles and impressions. I really can't think of a better way for them to disseminate this amount of information to be honest.

I'm going to laugh so hard when this event turns out to be Sony Japan levels of dryness and y'all are going to be so pissed about waking up early for a snoozefest.

I expect info, I expect announcements, I don't expect a show. That's what Tree House is for. That's what YouTube and Social Media are for.

It depends on the retailer. It can go live the moment they announce the date of release and price.

yeah probably that morning in the EU, that day in Japan, and march will come and the big retailers in the US wont do pre-orders. gotta wait in line for midnight release. just to be Nintendo.

Bingo.
The mass market in the us and Europe will see the news on their Facebooks when they wake up that next morning. The enthusiasts will see it when it happens.
