Sega/Deep Silver publishing Valkyria Revolution in Q2 2017 on PS4/XB1/Vita

SEGA Europe is so successful with PC games that publishing this basically isn't worth their time. They'd have more than enough money to do so.

SEGA lets their regional entities act independently, so SEGA Europe decided to say no.

Sucks that Persona 5 isn't worth their time either.

The port is sitting at 895,269 ± 24,735 on Steam. Needless to say, those numbers have no bearing on how this entry will sell.

Sega has the data - I'd suspect a large portion of the ~870-930k were from Steam sales, while the rest weren't sold at $60 like Valkyria was on console at its launch. You could also assume a portion of sales came from double dippers who picked up the game on PS3 and then again on PC for nostalgia's sake (like myself).

So I wouldn't be surprised if a PC version emerges after the console sales have peaked.

That's not really how it works

Except it really is. It's one of the biggest reasons why I get so confused why some feel it's so important to defend the use of the Valkyria IP here. It's not like there's any precedent of Sega revisiting older branches of RPG IPs once they take it in a new direction and Valkyria hasn't been used outside of the "Chronicles" format yet. Anyway, that's another debate that probably doesn't need to be brought up again.

I kinda wonder if the no PC announcement is because of Deep Silver since Sega doesn't really need any help with a PC version. Sort of like how the 999 ports were announced just for the PS4 early in the day because the publisher didn't want to mention the self published Spike Chunsoft PC version.

Like if it were just PS4/Vita I'd think maybe just it's coming later in general (if it does) but announcing an XB1 version but no PC is odd.

Sega of Europe/Sega of America will almost certainly be publishing the Vita version digitally themselves on PSN, so unlikely.

Not trying to ruffle feathers but even in the description on the game they say it's set in an alternate time line and is a different game with different combat system not associated with valkryie chronicles turn based strat.

"Described as a “revolution” from the traditional Valkryia Chronicles universe, Valkyria Revolution is set in an alternate timeline based on the European industrialization era and moves away from the traditional turn-based strategy gameplay of the series for a new hybrid of real-time combat and tactical strategy.

Is this bad, or is it that people have played it and it was crap?

It's hard to tell if the game is genuinely bad or if people are just moaning because it's not like VC..

This is what I'm trying to understand, but someone brought up there was a demo released in Japan or something and people hated it? But I wonder if they hate it because it's not like VC. I'm all for something new set in that universe with that art style.

Yakuza seems to have some Sony involvement and the "console exclusive" tag. That isn't happening

Deep Silver is doing Persona 5, Yakuza, Shin Megami Tensei and 7th Dragon as well. They're now the publisher of Japanese Atlus/SEGA games in Europe.

I totally miss the part Deep Silver = Europe in OP. Sorry :/

Why? By buying the game the only message you'll send is that you want more shitty action rpgs.

You are right. The game looks boring AF but I just want to show support to one of my fav franchise

If this sells well we'll get more Valkyria Blue Revolution, not more Valkyria Chronicles. I'd rather have this franchise burn to the ground than see that happen. Buying VC1 on Steam and PS4 is the best message fans can send, after that we hope for the best.

Well I did my bit on PS3 & 4 and am enjoying my current Remastered playthrough.

Gotta admit an XB1 version and no PC is super weird, as afaik the XB1 version hasn't even been announced to be published in Japan (not that it would likely sell too much there either).

Good for the few Jrpg lovers playing on XB1 though :)

SEGA lets their regional entities act independently, so SEGA Europe decided to say no. Even before, Koch Media, who own Deeps Silver, handled distribution of SEGA games. They just cut out the middle man.

That's exactly how it is, but this time it seems to work quite well

Understood. I still think it's a mess for its that same mentality (and more) that caused them to be a mess in the first place. Alas, if this methodology has been working out for them I'd love to see the sales numbers of other products that they used the same methodology on. If the numbers are high then that shows how messed up SEGA is as a corporation. I.e. No wonder they completely screwed up their own products as they were doomed upon arrival.

With all the downsizing and focus on digital that SEGA Europe went through over the years, maybe they just don't have the physical resources and manpower to handle the creation and distribution of physical copies of games by themselves?

Should probably finish the first Valkyria Chronicles. Did this game already come out in Japan? What was the reception like?

It's weird, but there's an odd way of it making sense when they make their money from digital releases. lol

Hopefully they have some surprises to announce from that tweet about announcing stuff next year, they've been taking their sweet time with getting more console titles on PC.

Remember guys~

Sega:
“During its first 24 hours on sale, blew all forecasts and predictions out of the water. The award-winning Strategy RPG, originally released in 2008 for PlayStation 3, forced its way to the top of the Steam download charts, beating a host of brand new games to reach number one,” Sega said.

It's a terrible idea to bring this to XB1!

In for the Xbox version

Will get xbox one version

Xbox version for me!

I'll jump in on the Xbox version.

Will pick it up on Xbox One as the hipster choice.

I'll pick it up for the Xbox.

I'll grab it physical on Xbox to show you I want more games like this physically!

So happy there is a One version!

In for the Xbox version!

I think I may buy it on the Xbox.

I'll be purchasing the Xbox One version.

Awesome. Will buy it on Xbox.

In for Xbox.

I'll be picking this up on the Xbox.

XB1 port over PC? Strange.

Also legit suprised that they're bringing over the Vita Version as well, even if it's digital only.

Oh yeah, and I'm also glad this is coming over. It's a good sign that SEGA has become more open to localizing their Japanese games. I was always iffy on this coming over because it's anime as fuck.

It's not that hard to figure out. Reception was so negative after the first demo that they had to take feedback and put out demo 2.0, which still isn't good.

Just watched a little bit of the 2.0 demo. Looks kind of janky and a little bit strange with the mix of guns and swords coming off of the previous games, but it looks like it could be somewhat fun if you aren't expecting too much out of it.

Valkyria Chronicles 2

Swords vs guns has been a thing since the second game.

I played the demo and it was some of the worst combat I've played in an RPG.

Your talking about this demo?

I guess I'm in the minority but after playing Tales of Zestria on, and FF XV this actually looks good to me.

Unless it get's super repetitive and you dont acquire new moves, specials etc.

You can find out right now that the combat is poor by looking at videos on YouTube.

Is the second demo showing everything there is combat wise like specials, super moves or whatever?

Or is there more?

I'm kinda tired to be dissapointed by SEGA. I'm happy for the Xbox One version, but the lack of PC port really bothered me this time. Even if they will announce a PC version at the begining of the year, probably I won't buy it anyway.

Because gaf equals the majority. That's never the case.

Anyway this your chance to support these types of games XB1 owners. If it sells terribly don't complain why there's no Japanese games on the platform.

It actually did worse.

Is the demo still up?

It's hard to tell if the game is genuinely bad or if people are just moaning because it's not like VC..

This is a genuine question.

Think we can safely assume that very few people played the PSP games.

That may be every single sale right there though. :p

This is the sort of thing that typically I would have probably bought on PS4... but I feel like I should get it on XB1 instead, so I'm not contributing to the statistic of XB1 owners that apparently don't play games like this.

I mean, by most accounts the demo isn't very good. I'd say them using this as a barometer would leave plenty of room to complain if it ends up a turd.

I think mainly the first demo is what soured many people. The new demo looks good, but then again I think people that played it are just bumbed it's not like original VC.

The reactions here are as embarassing as the ones from
The ffxiii 360 anouncment. let people enjoy the game on their system of choice rather than yours instead of complaining about it or immediatley going to doom and gloom
