Why would Nicki Minaj respond to some rapper from the 90s?

Edit: you guys do remember that Lil Kim also launched a diss campaign against Nicki, she didn't even respond and it went away.
Except Nicki shot first. This is a response.

When she said meek didn't fuck for 3 months cause her ass dropped

Wtf does that even mean?

Why is that a bad thing to help your brother with his legal troubles? Isn't that a thing close families tend to do.
Well for one... he allegedly did something terribly wrong.... So yes, therefore it can be used as a punchline. I didn't know this news till remy spit it so it worked

Let's go back to 2005:

Female rap stared to die after most of the females went to jail at the same time (too many to mention), got sick (Missy Elliot), or just couldn't be bothered (Lauryn Hill)

The door for female rappers was closed around late 2007.

Then came Nicki Minaj!!! Everyone saw her as the one that oppened the door again for female rappers.

But Nicki wanted it all to herself, she would attack any female rapper that she felt threatened by. Attack her subtly and deny it if asked about it saying she didn't mean anybody.

Her most famous fued before this was with Lil Kim, the one that Nicki stole her whole style from.

Another female rapper appeared by the name of Iggy. Nicki came for her and attacked for no reason.

Nicki kept releasing song after song talking about how she's the best and the "queen of rap" when no one else was there, attacking female rappers that don't exist because no female rapper was charting except for her.

Nicki relased a song a couple of days ago dissing Remy Ma for having only one platinum song (what a way for showing support for other female rappers) so Remy Ma relased this diss song to end her once and for all.

This is karma then

It's not the original beat, it's redone. Doesn't need to be cleared.

Yea it does.

Robin Thicke got in trouble for making a song sounding like 'Got to Give it Up', pretty sure she needs to clear a beat that sounds jut like the Ron Browz original instrumental. But like I said, that goes through Sony, not Nas... he only owns his Def Jam masters, Ether was on a Sony album.

Why do you barely see diss tracks in other genres of music?

Neil Young made Southern Man. Basically a Canadian calling out the South. One Southern Rock band felt some sort of way about that song and recorded their "Ether".

It was called Sweet Home Alabama.

Oh, and about the part when Nicki was helping her alleged Pedophile of a brother? She called out Tyga for dating a then underaged Kylie Jenner. So yeah. A bit hypocritical.

To be more specific the line in Sweet Home Alabama is
Well I heard mister Young sing about her
Well, I heard ol' Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A Southern man don't need him around, anyhow

Which is pretty problematic.

I don't follow rap and hip hop as much as i used to and I heard the internet going nuts over this but i hadn't listened to it yet and wasn't expecting much. I figured people were just hyping it up because someone finally decided to go at Nicki who's basically been uncontested as far as rap females go.

After listening to it i'm genuinely surprised. I was expecting a few punchlines with mostly filler talk but Remy went in for 7 mins straight. Just jab after jab and her wordplay was on point too. I was listening and it kind of had a cassidy kind of flow to it.

Going to be looking to see how Nicki handles this.

Maybe we can get some kind of tag team feature where Papoose goes at Drake

Other genres of music don't embrace that battle rap atmosphere. In rap, it's just about who people thought had the better lines (although people use that fame/money scapegoat, but the amount of money they make ain't got shit to with me). It's hard to do that in any other genre of music because other genres I feel tend not to focus on "styling" on people. It purely exists as another platform to express yourself.
