Dunno I have this old pic I posted on twitter. Dmg is insanely high now.

Err, never mind. That is Close combat attack Ki reduction, not damage bonus. The Skill Break special doesn't affect actual damage output.

Change to Attack (stat) is a scaling ability, not a Damage Bonus ability, which is what Stratosphere was mentioning.

Yep i read that somewhere.. how many unique levels/missions are there though? Not including the sub missions because they seem to be a remix of the enemies.

Around 3 missions for each region. There is one that has 2 and I think there was one that had 4 but not entirely sure. Some of the sub-missions do have their own levels also.

Finally beat it. Was quite a bit longer than I thought it would be, but it was fantastic nonetheless. The gameplay was great but the enemy variety spoiled the experience a bit. Game is substantially easier than any souls game and the magic is a bit overpowered. I beat almost half the bosses in the game on my first try. Can't wait for Nioh 2.

Man, so for someone who has finished every Souls game and adores them, I can't even beat the first boss (ball &a chain guy) in Nioh. I sat for probably two hours and died a couple dozen times before I just gave up. I think this game is definitely much harder than any Souls game I've played and it doesn't help that the summon system relies on rare item drops. I'm just going to have to shelf the game for now and maybe come back to it after these onslaught of new releases are under my belt.

This is the exact opposite of me. I find Nioh to be way more manageable than any Souls game yet. Have you tried levelling up more before trying the boss again? The one trick that has made all bosses manageable for me, so far, is that you can actually run around a boss while being locked on to the boss (I'm sure a lot of people here already know this already). I try to get 1 or 2 hits before I start to run around. I'm not very good at these types of games, but this tactic has served its purpose thus far.

Ah cool. I'm in the first region on the level with
Hino Enma
so was just wondering how long to go before going to the next region. Thanks.

Yesssss beat the two duos and also the post-game mission/boss
are you kidding me with the 3 Kelleys, lol...
I was struggling real bad until I decided to nuke them with Windstorm. I fucking love this ability... I swear, there are many bosses/missions I don't know if I would have been able to clear without it.

The twos are insanely hard too. Beat them without Living Weapon too! (cause I kept dying and resetting the gauge anyway)

I checked and... lol, for post-game I accumulated about 100 deaths right there (checked the before and after and no, I won't say what the total is :p). Probably a third on each mission, sometimes, nay, often I'd just do one small mistake and die instantly right there.

Why not? I bet it is way lower than mine lol. But yeah those two duos are a good challenge.

Congrats. And Windstorm is indeed godlike. There are only a couple fights where Water Sword is better (like
Gasha-dokuro
).

1. What's Windstorm?
2. Should I reforge all white attributes? Are blues just rare? I got +20 fire on a reroll on my sword, but it's in white. Thought that was rare already...

1. It's a dual katana skill that does extremely high damage, especially from behind.

2. That's up to you. Here's what I have on my main dual katana:

Water
Final Blow Damage <<<< This is a white quality attribute.
Guard Ki Reduction <<<< Blue
Close Combat Ki Damage <<<< Blue
Close Combat Damage <<<< Blue
Change to Attack (Skill) <<<< Purple
<Set Bonus>

Yes, blues and purples are rarer. 20 of an element is pretty high. I don't think dual katana can even get higher than 15.

Should i be fighting bloody graves? I've mostly ignored them

Bloody Graves are the best source of money in new game+. In your first run, fight them if you want/need Glory (a currency you'll be able to spend when you get access to a function called Hidden Teahouse [you can't miss this function, just progress through the story]).

1. Dual swords high stance skill
2. No the most important thing is what YOU want out of the weapon, blues and purple rarity are nice but if they don't help you then reroll that out. Like no point keeping a bonus to stamina if your stamina is at 6

1. Windstorm is one of the two Dual Sword abilities that are used with Block + Heavy Attack command in the High Stance, the other being Water Sword.
2. That is extremely weird. All Elemental effects should be blue, no buts. +20 fire at maximum familiarity is one point short of the maxed out roll, so re-rolling that isn't really advisable unless you're really gunning only for the absolute best shit ever.

This is important as well. I have two white specials on my very much customized dual swords because they suit my purpose and the role I have dedicated for that weapon.

Baal, I pmed this to Silvard, but you might be interested too:
So, maybe you already knew this, but I did some testing. I was curious if putting Change to Attack (Skill) A+ on dual kats simply replaces the B+ Skill scaling that all dual kats have. In that case, I thought it might be better to get Change to Attack (Heart) A+ so that the dual kats would have B+ skill scaling and A+ Heart scaling (instead of C heart scaling).

I respecced, and went 99 into Heart and 99 into skill.

Here are the results:

99 Heart/99 Skill with Change Heart: 1629 attack
99 Heart/99 Skill with Change Skill: 1621 attack

So my hypothesis was kind of right, but it's not a significant difference.

I haven't really put much thought into trying to go for a specific build/set yet, I've just been getting more + on sword and random armor. I like the idea of spamming living weapon, so maybe I'll start looking for armor that helps with that. My sword with the +20 fire has A+ Spirit attack bonus already.

Tips on armor sets that go with spirit or magic?

(And BTW thanks all for replies)

Do the cutscenes still have William Adams or is it with the unlocked characters like Yasuke?
William be William in the cutscenes. The skins are for gameplay only. You do get the voices to go with the skin though, for all the grunts and gasps and whatnot.

That.. is damn interesting. I'd run some tests on my own but I'll be dropping Nioh for a while soon. Horizon unlock is just over 14 hours away.

One thing that annoys me about the multiplayer is that the visitor has no control over where they'll get dropped in. Like, I just want to fight the boss and then exit but instead 80% of the time I have to do half the mission first, which also means it's probably this persons first time ever fighting the boss so we're not going to win anyway

To top it off, I can't help someone unless I'm not on an active mission, which means most of the time when my friends need help i have to tell them to wait half an hour. The corollary of this is that if you get a few bad visitors you can run out of cups with no way to obtain more unless you exit the mission, which is pretty shitty

Does anyone know if getting fox helm is possible? Saw a revenant with only the helm and a weapon killed it 5 time before it disappeared and got nothing.

Yeah it's possible along with the other JP DLC helmets.

You don't get the smithing text with it though.

Would love to have that one. One of the 3 DLC helmets I am missing.

For the others this post is quite good:

I'm at the Iga Escape and my main weapon (katana) is doing about 430 damage and I think I'm close to level 60. I feel extremely weak against bosses. I see other people doing insane damage while it takes me forever to chip away at them.

I've been playing on and off for a while now and still feel I know nothing about it. Think I'm getting old. I asked a friend about a boss I was having trouble with and if he had similar problems and he was like 'lol, nah. One of the easiest bosses in the game.'

There's a number of reasons- is your gear up to date? are you using an elemental weapon? Which stance are you in?

But in general in my experience people who find bosses to have too much health tend to be due to not being aggressive enough. For a boss like the Giant Toad, you should be constantly on him attacking. Don't let up

I've reforged my armor, though I'm still taking a ton of damage. I'm using a lightning Raikiri that I got from the previous level - I'll alternate between stances, depending on the enemy - though I usually low stance for the dps.

I've done a few sub-missions and leveled my onmyo to 10, so I can use a few ninjutsu scrolls and talismans.

Absolutely. If you went looking for more Souls in terms of interconnected levels, atmosphere and sense of mystery/wonder, then you only have yourselves to blame for the disappointment. These games might share some similarities, but that ain't one of them. That is the bread and butter of the Souls series to me though, that godlike atmosphere and interconnected level design(BB especially). The bread & butter for Nioh is the deep satisfying combat and meaty loot system.

Yeah I think they are fundamentally going for different things despite the fact that Nioh does borrow a lot form Souls.

Well there was Demon's Souls which pretty much had individual levels that you selected from a menu. None of them looped back to earlier areas. Only difference was that you had a hub that you could visit instead of just a map that acted as a menu.

Those were "worlds" more than levels. They were massive, had multiple parts and lot's of exploration. Nioh levels are bite-size in comparison.

I didn't go into too much detail, I played Tenchu a TON when I was a kid as well, mission structure is okay. It's just bland. It's too repetitive and the environments aren't that well done IMHO.

Not a huge fan of the skill system either, a lot of the abilities aren't exciting to keep me playing. Luckily NieR is coming out soon. Hopefully it'll be good.

Wut?

I'm totally fine with the broken up mission worlds. There's a fair amount of shortcuts and such in Nioh missions so I don't find that part lacking. I don't really care about the interconnected world. If the first level connected to the second, that would not tangibly improve the game.

I'm surprised by the amount of story in Nioh though. It's the first time I've skipped cutscenes in a game that I can recall. It's just intrusive trash. I don't care about any of the characters or plot points. Blah blah blah Nobunaga blah blah blah /wanking gesture

Do you not care because it's (kind of) about Japanese history? I'll admit that it's tough to follow with all the names and stuff but I'm trying very hard because I am appreciating an RPG story that's different from the usual nonsense.

I did the final Ninja and Mage missions to get the trophy and respec'ed. Finally I can wear armour I actually like. All the heavy armours look so cool!

1-1 and 1-2 are very much different levels rather than worlds. You never loop back into the earlier areas and they might as well have been totally separate from each other. Sure they take place in same overall area but that is just having similiar theme in the levels. Like you could just link levels in Nioh to each other with a tunnel after a boss or something and it would be hardly different.

Beat the game earlier and all submissions except for Y&O.(only tried a couple times, but it might take a while) Got H&T on my 3rd try though. That was a fun one. When H started healing I raged a little bit haha.

If you're using light armor you're bound to take a hit in the defense department, if you're using low stance your damage would be lower as well.

But what you have going for you is high mobility.

Try this then- do two hits and then dodge through him. Lightning is a good element to use because it slows him down if it procs, water element is second best because it reduces his defense. If you can get two elemental debuff on to him you can get him in a weaken state where your attacks can stagger him.

If you're still not satisfied with your damage, try switching to high stance to do one triangle attack, switch back to low stance to dodge away. Repeat

Thanks for the advice. I hate heavy armor, aesthetically and mechanically, and try to stay under 40% weight encumbrance. I'll invest some skill points into the water buff and see if I can do a bit more damage.

Some help, what is a earth or a wind attack?

Lightning and fire seems obvious, and water im still guessing it works on the demon yokais, but no clue about the first ones.

Water decreases defense
Wind decreases attack
Earth decreases Ki resistance (ie take more Ki damage)

40%? That isn't a threshold though. Agility A is <30%, Agility B <70%, Agility C <100%. If you have 40%, you might as well have 69.9%.

I don't think so. 1st world is all part of the same Boletarian palace as far as I remember. Stonefang is the same mountain going deeper and deeper. Levels in Nioh are a temple one place, a fishing village another place, a grass plane etc. It's not the same thing at all.

I finished all the no-hit boss titles. I think that's about it for now since I want to play Horizon. I still didn't get my gear to +10, and there are a few titles I need to get.

I'll get back to it in April after I'm finished with the DS3 DLC.

I don't think that is important differentiation. To me the mountain levels in Nioh might as well be connected to each other. Or 1-1 and 1-2 be in totally different castles in DeS. Wouldn't make a difference to me. To me you just select levels in DeS just like in Nioh. In DeS they just share the same theme across some levels but thats it.
