BMW is already thinking about having their own team in FE.

While I am happy FE is a good and cheap option for car manufacturers to pretend they like the environment more than money, I disagree that it is doing well as a sport.

For one, their schedule is shit and impossible for anyone to get into the competition. The race tracks are even worse, it is nigh time they add some actual tracks along with shitty street circuits. They need to disalow board radios in anything other than English, or stop broadcasting them, idc how important the French think they are. They are ending the dumb car change mid-race, so that is good. They need to drastically improve the look of the car, especially since they are so slow that the actual design doesn't matter (they aren't even slowed down when losing the entire rear wing ffs).

Formula E has a decent field, good teams, good drivers, but it still looks like a national Fiat Punto league in many ways.
But the fact that they are slow is exactly why they usually race on tight city tracks. In a wide open Tilke circuit it would look terribly slow due the lack of objects close to the cars. The sensation of speed is really important in these events.

Speaking off, have Drew and Danny announced their new podcast yet? I need this to happen before Australia.

Just noticed a tweet from a day or two ago:

It's coming.

The 2017 European Formula 3 season looks like it will have a 20 car grid again with 5 teams entering 4 cars. Mucke Motorsport and T-Sport were unable to attract drivers for their seats.
http://www.fiaf3europe.com/2017/03/20/fia-formula-3-european-championship-announces-entry-list-coming-season/

Here is the entry list:
Rookies are Italicized
Prema Powerteam Mercedes:

#3 Maximilian Günther (DEU)
#8 Guan Yu Zhou (CHN)
#25 Mick Schumacher (DEU)
#53 Callum Ilott (GBR)

Hitech GP Mercedes:
#7 Ralf Aron (EST)
#11 Tadasuke Makino (JPN)
#34 Jake Hughes (GBR)
#99 Nikita Mazepin (RUS)

Motopark Volkswagen:
#1 Joel Eriksson (SWE)
#33 Marino Sato (JPN)
#47 Keyvan Andres Soori (DEU)
TBA

Van Amersfoort Racing Mercedes:
#5 Pedro Piquet (BRA)
#17 Harrison Newey (GBR)
#55 David Beckmann (DEU)
#96 Joey Mawson (AUS)

Carlin Motorsport Volkswagen:

#27 Jehan Daruvula (IND)
#31 Lando Norris (GBR)
#62 Ferdinand Zvonimir Maria Balthus Keith Michael Otto Antal Bahnam Leonhard von Habsburg (AUT)
TBA

A far cry from the 35 car grids of 2015, but maybe that season was an anomaly. I'll miss watching that massive field, made for some pretty interesting racing throughout the pack. I guess the rumoured merger with GP3 is going to happen to help with the car count. But if it's going to be Premawinslol all the way until 2019, it's hard to see any of the lesser F3 or GP3 teams sticking around.

Unless he's totally hopeless, which doesn't seem to be the case, surely it's nailed on that Mick Schumacher will drive in Formula 1 in a few years time.

Also I find it amusing that a member of European nobility is on one of the teams. You can even play as his family in Crusader Kings 2.

Yeah, Mick is definitely going to do well especially with being on the best team and all that. The real barometer will be how he does compared to his teammates. They are all on that team on merit. He was recently made a brand ambassador to Mercedes, so if he gets to F1 we already have an idea of which teams he'll be heading to.

Seeing Pedro Piquet on this list made me remember that now he's Kvyat's brother in law, and that Daniil hasn't yet met his father in law. I can't conceive the pain...

Is speed in FE limited by rules or we expect them to get fastest as technology progress?

It's more because of the batteries. With better batteries, the next generation of cars won't need to be changed in the middle of the race, so as the tech progresses the cars should get faster.

So I missed out on a few seasons of F1 before midway through 2016, and was just reading through Pastor Maldonado's Wikipedia page. I mean, I knew of his reputation for crashing, but I didn't realise it was quite that bad!

Now is an excellent time to jump back in, we have a young dog that is either going to be just like Maldonado or a great talent, it is quite exciting.

Oh yeah, I've been following pretty avidly since Spa last year. It just took the F1 game to get me back into it :p

F1 games are an incredible marketing tool. An F1 game bought on a whim made me a fan originally, and another F1 game bought on a whim got me back into it a few years ago.

I'm confident that Stroll is not going to be a crasher. If you compared the beginning of the 2015 F3 season to last season, it's a night and day difference. Aside from the crashes from the first week of testing, he put in a lot of laps. It's unfortunate that many are so quick to judge.

Yeah, I feel like it's unfair to already judge him.

If he proves us wrong, he proves us wrong, good on him and all.

I think he is making the jump to F1 way too early thanks to dad and that will show when he gets into situation where he has pressure on him.

I just realized, Pierre Gasly must be pretty pissed off that the testing role went to Sean Gelael. The GP2 champion who is part of the junior program gets waylaid in Japan while an outsider buys his way into the seat.

What's the point of having a junior team if you're not even going to use them?

Expect the OT when I get home from work tomorrow. It'll be up long before FP1 hits, so I wouldn't worry.

Please send any complaints to the mod that will inevitably move us to Community :D

I suggest that if it happens again we invent an OT about a TV show that nobody has heard of and just see how long it takes to get moved lol.
