Oh, god. He would kill it as Geralt!

The Witcher games occupy such a specific place in my heart, it's hard to imagine a show doing it justice... but hey, I'll definitely give it a shot.

Had this happened ten years earlier, Clancy Brown would be my ideal live action Geralt. Now, I really hope they'll go with an unknown actor.

Luckily, the show doesn't have to do justice to a game series which didn't do justice to the novels.

The director of all three Witcher game intros (and the Cyberpunk teaser) is one of the directors. Huh.

Adapting the original writings is the way to go. Of course, I'd guess this series wouldn't be getting made without the popularity the games brought to that world and those characters.

Such a good fit. So glad it went the tv series route and not a film. Interested in seeing a fantasy world done by Netflix, how big the budget might be etc

Video game movies failbomb, go to Netflix for a longform series.

Good strategy. Hopefully they have carteblanche on story/edit and enough money to do it justice.

100% with you. When I tried to imagine The Witcher as a film series (as earlier rumors suggested) I felt no confidence in the idea, sure they would muck it up with ridiculous "epic" schlock. Now that we're talking about a TV series we're getting somewhere.

I was telling a friend the other day that some side quests in TW3 feel like a monster of the week episode of an HBO show. And the long form story telling of TV is perfect for the kind of world building and character development this universe deserves.

The Expanse is an amazing show (best space sci fi show since the BSG reboot imo) so I have high hopes if they are handling this.

Hopefully they get a good actor for Geralt.

I know everyone is posting for Viggo or Mads, and I agree both actors would fit an older Geralt quite well but they are probably looking to cast someone in their 20's/30's at least for the role.

I think it'd be good if they could find an unknown actor, someone who fits the look of Geralt and can nail the charisma/personality of him.

Netflix original shows overall have been quite good so I'm hyped. Don't know where this Netflix shows aren't quality has come from.
Yeah, I'm baffled as well.

Considering Stranger Things, Narcos, BoJack Horseman, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Dear White People, Masters of None, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, 13 Reasons Why, Making a Murderer, Bloodline, F is for Family, Sense8, Wet Hot American Summer: FDoC, & a Series of Unfortunate Events, all exist, & are all critically acclaimed for the most part.

But yeah, I guess most of their shows suck & are critically panned because Iron Fist happened. Looks like the Witcher series is bound to fail.

Well it is not the adaptation of the games.

The question is if they can do the books justice - which, frankly, is much harder than in case of the games. Because games, even if great, don't do the books justice;) IMO of course.

I imagine a large part of it is due to the fact that a significant portion of this board can't be arsed to watch anything that doesn't have a superhero in it.

Here's hoping they hire a good fight choreographer... or if they want to keep it authentic: a bad one. Whoever was responsible for Iron Fist should be free right now for instance.

I think Hugh Jackman would also make a great Geralt, he is buff but not overly so. Viggo Mortensen and the other suggestions in this thread are kind of lanky to play Geralt, no?

Yeah, I gathered as much. The ranking of every superhero show each year in the TV Show of the Year thread says a lot.

The short stories lend themselves really well to an episodic TV series. And following that up with the singular narrative of the novels should be even better.

Looking forward to this.

I have a feeling Sapkowski's going to give everybody involved in this production a lot of grief.

Looking forward to seeing how it turns out though.

Nah, this time around he's probably gonna be smarter and secure himself a bit of dough. Meaning he'll be busy getting shitfaced on lager or vodka. :)

Mads = Geralt, Eva Green for yen and that show is already a winner.

That guy from Lost has to many smug faces. Gerald is looking serious most of the time.
