TEKKEN 7 |OT| How I killed your mother

Haven't played Tekken since Tekken 3 and I'm looking forward to try and learn how to play for real. My Mad Catz TES+ arrived just in time today - my very first stick.

I'm gonna play on PC so if anyone else is a total noob wish to add me, here's my ID: http://steamcommunity.com/id/teowind/

So apparently people are dodging in Ranked based on their opponent's ranking already. I guess that's the result of having the ability to select your opponent based on all criteria. People on Twitter are already asking for this "feature" to be removed.

Question about those who haven't touched Tekken since 2,3,5 or the rest. What pulled you back into the series? Does 7 have something the others didn't in your eyes?

Good lord the "special match" in Mishima Saga is some serious bullshit. I had to lower it to one star difficulty so as to not throw my controller through the screen, but even then SNK bosses would be crying in these fights. I'm sure there's some cheap spam you can do but f'd if i had a chance to figure it out since 95% of the fight is spent facing the wrong bloody way! I tried the hardest difficulty for a laugh and that has got to be impossible.

The main story is pretty cool but really it's only about 10 fights or so.. And it also ramps up the cheapness factor pretty quickly whilst starting out basic as anything. I feel DoA 5 did the whole thing a lot better. The character episodes are just a joke, one fight and a stupid cutscene!

Why they didn't just put them at the end of a string of fights instead, at least u'd feel like you accomplished something then. All they needed was an option how many characters to fight in arcade and it'd be decent enough but ugh, how they can get this so wrong after a) having it better in the past and b) SFV backlash, is beyond me.

On the plus side the actual fighting is really fun and feels a lot smoother than past Tekkens to me.

Might also want to add to the first post that this game releasing tomorrow is not Tekken 7. It is the home version of Tekken 7 Fated Retribution, which is the expansion to Tekken 7.

This is also what Namco did with the home versions of Tekken 6 Bloodline Rebellion (which was released as "Tekken 6") and Tekken Unlimited (which was released as "Tekken Tag Tournament 2").

I don't know why they continue to do this.

Just thought it about time I learned to play Tekken tbh. I am heavily into fighting games nowadays and I haven'played the series since I was much much younger.

Akuma is helping to break me in a little, once I am more comfortable with the weight, movement and it being 3D I fully intend to learn the rest of the cast. I do not know who is a beginner friendly character to start with though.

Have my PC Collectors Edition coming tomorrow. All set for 4K 60fps! Shame I'm working all weekend. Should be able to get a few hours in.

Personally I preferred characters with quick, easy to input attacks so for me that was Heihachi, Kazuya and Paul Pheonix back in Tekken 2. But I'm not very good (and I'm getting old lol) so maybe that's incorrect.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

Branding is why. The subtitle may confuse and steal emphasis away from the core attention grab, which is the numbered sequel to an established name.

And to be fair, there is justification to drop the subtitle given these would be the first iterations released in many worldwide markets. There is an inherent assumption that these would also be the most up-to-date renditions of the source at time of release without the patch identifier required.

Dat Okada King.

I'm going to enjoy putting Bullet Club shirts on my mains. Like Jeff said, I gotta let em know what I'm about.

You know, I've had so many arguments with people who think Akuma was a bad idea when really him being in has given this series new life and a new audience that it didn't have for a good while. I mean, I get why people don't want Akuma in "their Tekken" and all but it's only a positive for the growth of the series. He's really helping in that area.

Pre-loading this bad boy! I honestly won't stay up for the Steam unlock, I'm very tired and I'll be able to play tomorrow :)

My PS4 CE copy shows up tomorrow. All I'm doing today (besides some errands) is play Tekkens 1-6. I plan on doing Arcade Mode at least twice for each title just to get ready for T7. I was watching Max's Tekken Legacy and was like "nah, I gotta do this myself".

Also I gotta finish making my Jukebox playlists.

Not sure if this has been posted yet but I saw this video on r/tekken and found it to be extremely informative as someone who hasn't touched the series since Tekken 2: Tekken 7 Character Overviews

Might be a good add for the OT.

Thanks for this! I haven't played since T2 so this was really helpful. I wanted to main Heihachi but looks like he might be fairly difficult according to that vid :(

This really seems like a questionable decision made by the devs if you've ever played any competitive game in any genre ever. People will use whatever questionable means to try to climb up the the ranks but this really takes it to another level. All it takes is 1 friend to queue into to cheat.

Hopefully this is looked at or maybe it's not as bad as it sounds.

Has anyone said anything about 21:9 support?

There was an off screen image posted in a different thread showing it is seemingly confirmed as running natively in ultra wide. Promising, but not outright stated to be so yet.

Harada already confirmed it's intentionally and it's to help new players. He did say they might change it later tho.

My brother has heavily gotten into fighting games over the last couple of years (MKX and Injustice 2) which piqued my interest in the genre again. I'm going with Tekken 7 because of nostalgia basically and because it looks awesome and like a lot of fun!

But yeah basically family + nostalgia.

Nice!

Probably been answered already, but does the American version include the NJPW stuff?

Yep!

Yeah, I thought it was insane that people were happy about this being added. That's like finding out a fighting game doesn't have penalties for rage quitting and calling that a feature. People are right to give shit to SFV but it removing the ability to screen your opponent was a good thing, not a "missing feature" from SF4.

So I feel vindicated that this is already a big enough issue that Harada had to comment on it and the game isn't even launched yet. Hopefully this means it'll be fixed quickly.

To the PC sales, idk how well it's doing but I saw it was the top 3 of Steam sellers yesterday, now it's at the 4th spot. Yall know more about that than I do. With that said, I'm sure the PC side will have a great player base. The PS4 side will as well. Hopefully the same for X1 owners. Last I checked on Amazon, it was #5 in Xbox games so who knows.

No prob! I don't think you should let that vid deter you from picking a certain character, but it is good to know the character strengths and potential learning curve.

I think Harada is right though, it isn't a terrible idea for new players and takes a bit of the fear / stress out of ranked that tends to scare off newer players. It just needs to be something that you can no longer do once you hit 1st Dan or something.

I don't even think rejecting ranked matches helps new players. Anything that makes matchmaking take longer hurts everyone. If they want to help new players, they're better off focusing on better pairing logic. It is encouraging that it sounds like they're planning to improve it, at least.

Great video, really helpful as someone jumping into the series for the first time.

Really tempted to pick Akuma as I'm already familiar with his playstyle. Maybe I'll just start with Akuma and switch off him after picking up the basics of Tekken.
