Xenoblade 2 confirmed for Holiday 2017

The blades system looks like something out of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. It's like your at the mercy of a good roll. It feels like it's made to have micro transactions in it to purchase more crystals for Blade rolls...loot box style.

I have seen nothing yet that implies the blade have random abilities.

I don't understand, why did they develop a big budget modern RPG with character designs that are obviously meant to appeal to pre-teens. Is that really the audience they're targeting for that type of game in 2017?

Edit: The part that's even stranger is how it appears that someone noticed this as a potential problem after the character designs were finished and tried to correct it by using adult voices.
This is the only part that bothers me. I'll put up with this stuff for a good game, but the problem is, Nintendo has just turned off everyone who can't.

Throw me in the camp of not as much of a graphical improvement as I was hoping, either, but it's half a year away and I'm sure they have to design around portable mode.

Trailer didn't feel good. The voices don't fit those characters. But all in all, it does seem to be trying to be more like the original Xenoblade, so good enough for me.

Also, if they mapped the abilities to shorcut buttons instead of choosing left/right on the dpad to select abilities, then that is awesome! Also good to see hit reaction from the enemy. Seems more like an ARPG system now than the old MMO type system, which sounds great!

While I don't like how Auto-Attack won't activate unless you stand still now, it is beneficial in that case since you can stay within close range of say an enemy that has counter spike without going too far away to avoid getting hurt, and the 3 hit combo system in place rewarding you with good positioning for more damage output

Also, if they mapped the abilities to shorcut buttons instead of choosing left/right on the dpad to select abilities, then that is awesome!

That appears to be the case, with some brief description below the name to tell you the effects of that specific art with Anchor Shot or where/when you should use it with Double Spinning Edge

I know they said they're working on the visuals... hopefully those textures get improved. Some pretty bad ones at times.

EDIT: Also god damn the UI is terrible.

I wish they looked as good as a Gust game.

I'm a huge fan of Xenoblade and I can't wait to play 2. But I'm currently playing Atelier Shallie, and yeah, the character designs there absolutely destroy this.

And now I have the idea of Xenoblade with Hidari character designs in my head and I will never be completely satisfied again.

On the Treehouse demo, when they used the crystal, the Blade he received from the crystal was already predetermined, or was it random?

It would make more sense that the blades would be pre-determined, but I'm not sure.

I'm mostly not sure of how I feel about the world not being seemless with these island-Titans floating around a sea of clouds (UM, VERY BATEN KAITOS). I know it wasn't in XBC either, but I did love that part of XCX.

Seems like Blade can grant you elemental buffs (using Pyra in this case). And since you see that one the left UI, guessing you can have more elements there and can switch between them rather easily? Or it might be that there are more than one blade (or both)? Not sure if they've talked about this stuff.

Also seems like you can chain elements into different effects. Like Fire + Water = Self Healing, Fire + Light = Seal Affinity Down, etc. And as you can do this chaining until that Flame bar lasts.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.

I'm willing to bet you can fly the airship instead of being forced to choose where to go via menu. Too early to say though.

Treehouse stream had the game in English with Japanese voices, do you think this could mean Dual Audio or were the earlier games previewed like this too before they were ready?

I think it just means that they're still working on voiceovers. I don't expect Dual Audio since that's a ton of space devoted to just audio + Rpgs having tons of dialogue.

Weird hearing those voices come out of those characters. Looks cool tho

It probably has visible armor changes like the previous game so people who want to can cover up the female characters.

The character models are remarkable improvements over the past games but I wish they got a better designer than saitom(a really strange choice for a nintendo game). And Atelier level models would have been amazing.

Still, I like quite a few

Plus the blade guy, nopon and robot kid, healer girl.

Fantastic monster and world design. However:

Absolutely atrocious character designs, almost across the board. This is looking like a hard pass for me. What in the world is going on with some of these once-legendary Japanese creators? How does Takahashi go from Xenogears character design and art direction to allowing this?

The fact that the crystal he used had a very generic name tells me that the Blade you get is random each time. Like that crystal he used is not specific to that Blade he received. I think There may be an RNG element to it that for a huge game like this I could do without.

The grinding/farming took it's toll on me towards the end of the first game lol

On the note of the worlds being all separated rather than a big connected open world, I mean the first game takes you through the paces in a linear fashion and by the time you have control it was mostly fast traveling so I guess they are expecting the same to be true here where you would just fast travel to any zones you have something to do in.

This is the one thing that has me completely dumbstruck. I look at this and feel it's doing everything it can to alienate me.

We need more T H I C C females like in Fortnite. C'mon Japan, get with the times. The female protagonist is super animu top heavy. lol.

Part of the appeal of Xenoblade has been its huge vistas, particularly in aiming the camera so you can gaze up at the massive Titans. But when watching the demo, moving the camera to do this also has a habit of zooming in on the red girl's stupid seethrough not-skirt g-string bullshit-ass costume.

Just trying to let everything about this game sink in right now, but a few early reactions/thoughts

2017... YAY

Overall asthetic... where Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles X both felt like WRPGs designed by a japanese studio. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 feels like it skews closer towards a traditional JRPG. With the Blade Driver mechanic feeling closer to a pokemon or yo kai watch game then your classic western MMO/RPG system.

The overall pace also feels a bit slower then XC and XCX, due to the revamped auto attack system.

Story/Plot... Not sure what to think yet, but Monolith Soft has my complete faith as far as writing goes.

Overall hype.... hmm moderately high.

I wish it did have dual audio because wow the main characters voice is super grating compared to everyone else's. Game looks really cool, I was already happy that I bought a Switch today for Zelda but with this, Mario, Splatoon and the weird Rabbids game all out this year I'm over the moon with my purchase.

Bu-but you don't understand, Xenogears was just like this!

Yeah, her shitty thong/seethrough skirt is even more hilariously stupid when you see her complete lack of ass.

I would like to say though, that people shouldn't be hating on Pyra (think thats her name?) just for her boobs. Girls with "disproportionate" boobs exist in real life naturally, and its unfair to remove representation simply due to breast size. If you want better costume designs and character writing, sure that's fine, but women with big boobs exist too.

Like, try to count the amount of exceptionally busty female characters that are actually well developed characters, and not just fanservice characters. I genuinely can't name any.

Hopefully the graphics tighten up closer to release, if the story is at least better than XCX I'll probably nab it.

Same, I'm definitely getting the game if it has dual audio but it's easy skip if not, haven't played the earlier games in the series.
Tried emailing Nintendo about it and probably a good idea for others concerned to do so too so they see there's demand. Persona 5 dual audio happened, I believe everything can happen.

Came in here after seeing a bunch of screens just to comment on this.

Guy should not be getting hired to work on character design. He just doesn't have the chops. It's a real damn shame.

I was skeptical after watching the trailer today. But the demo totally turned me around. Shared it with a couple people who don't have a Switch yet who agreed: if this was out today it'd be a must buy.

Why would character design in a Xenoblade game be a pass for anyone? The last two games were all about the world, the exploration, the story (well, the first one anyway), and the combat. They had bad character designs too and it didn't stop all that other stuff from being great.

Game looks kind of rough. Definitely a big step down from the last game, and I think even compared to the first game running in HD. A lot comes down to the art style, which doesn't seem consistent. Characters especially look like they came out of different games, but also parts of the environment look drastically different with respect to how "cartoony" or "realistic" they look. Technically, there's a ton of pop-in; the grass draw distance is especially distracting, which never bothered me in the first two games.

Otherwise seems like they're making some good changes from X. I'm glad you can control all characters. Still watching the demo, but it seems like equipment is gone? That could be a really good idea; the 'loot-game' aspect of X was out of control. I love the concept for the world, like a combination of Baten Kaitos and Xenoblade. The new Arts system is a good idea I think; there really needed to be some streamlining after the last game. I think the blade system is a great way to bring some diversity to the combat. I'm also glad they toned down the overworld collectables.

XBX just came out and people shat on Tanaka's amazing work. The models looked kinda whatever but Elma is a GOAT design

I don't understand how people can think XC1 and XCX had "good designs" but XC2 is where they draw the line. All these games have anime as fuck designs for the characters. How shallow are some people if a characters outfit is the reason they'll pass on a game?

Before I watch the treehouse, does XB2 have the movement of X? I'm probably going to buy it anyway because I'm a sucker for great world design but I really like the platforming and movement in X.

I'm completely sold on this game after the treehouse presentation! World looks amazing, the combat is improved a lot, the music day night themes are still in, the town looks great, and I'm liking the concept of multiple Titans that we can explore.

Hype!
