I like spider-man, but at this point Marvel movies are becoming so formulaic and stale. The best word to describe MCU movies at this point is "shallow" especially compared to movies like Logan. I really hope Marvel will soon take a risk and deviate from the "snarky superhero beats up bad guys for two hours with no thematic purpose" formula that we have seen over and over. Doesn't seem like this one deviates much unfortunately.

Why? Its a win/win for Marvel and Sony. Sony gave up the Spiderman merchandising rights to Marvel years ago so they only make money on the movies. Better the movies the more money they make.

Better movies give Marvel a leg up on keeping Spiderman merchandise front and center

I think Sony will extend the deal

Nah, Sony has other plans probably, like united their Venom universe with Spiderman =p

yo we got FIVE movies in a year from July to July:

Spider-Man
Thor Ragnarok
Black Panther
Infinity War
Ant-Man & The Wasp

I'll never not be in awe at what the MCU has done

my younger self could only dream of this kind of stuff happening. we're almost a decade in now and it just amazes me. a fucking decade of full universe continuity.

I still remember how fucking amped I got at the Avengers Initiative tease at the end of Iron Man. I had no idea that was going to happen, I just thought I was seeing an Iron Man movie. then boom, there it is. then when Avengers happened and fucking nailed it I couldn't believe it. now we're here.

I'll be honest, the thing that I'm really choked about... is why can't those posters be to the level of the movie :( Only one I like and it's kinda ruined by a random Iron Man placement...

Even though I liked Ant-Man, it's hard to muster the same level of enthusiasm for the sequel compared to the four coming before it. Especially when it's the one immediately following Infinity War.

But who knows! I didn't care all that much about Ragnarok until the glorious fucking trailer hit, so maybe Reed, et al. have a cool take for Ant-Man & the Wasp too.

it is insane how they have managed to capatilze on the potential they built in IM 1

like.... i could not have imagined this going better

I think it will be The Wasps show - her coming out party & time to shine.

It's Ant-Man... The original wasn't any different in that it didn't really generate much excitement or buzz until it came out and was certifiably good.

I'm interested to see what they do. If I have a concern, Hope Pym was a dull character in Ant-Man 1. Ideally they'll work on that if she's going to co-star in the movie.

It'll also be interesting if the movie has flashbacks to Hank and Janet as the previous Ant-Man and Wasp. IIRC Peyton Reed wanted to do Fantastic Four as a period piece in the 60s.

Anyway, still say the February to February, Logan to Black Panther, stretch is the best ever for superhero movies. Logan and Wonder Woman quickly rose to some of my favorites and a friend who I tend to agree with says I'll be into Spidey Homecoming.

My fiancee and I talk about that all the time. I think back to that post-credits scene in the original Iron Man and I never could have imagined what, not only what that led to in the movies, but the impact it would have on the entire film industry.

The ride might come to an end eventually but what Marvel Studios has done is truly awe-inspiring.

I even mentally prepared for super hero fatigue or a drop in quality or something after Avengers that would result in this whole thing not continuing and yet here we are

Looking at how much stuff they've adapted from the comics and it all being connected just blows my mind.

yeah it's amazing. it seems that no matter how big this thing gets and how many movies they have going they never lose focus of their intentions. the characters, the respect for the source material, etc is all great. even when they take liberties with something it never feels wrong. I know some people flipped at the Iron Man 3 twist and some people don't like Stark being responsible for Spidey's suit but the core of all these characters are there. the characters that you know and love from the comics are there and they're well represented regardless of how things might differ from the source material. like for me I really don't mind that Stark made Spidey's suit because they didn't rob Peter Parker of his intellect in the process. he's the same character it's just that a plot point is different. I never get the feeling that, given the means, Peter couldn't have created his own awesome shit. hell, he already did with the goggles and web fluid. that's what I love about the MCU. they just get it.
