I made that post, not to troll era, but to see what kind of mentally ill cult-like responses I would get. I set it up in a way where "OP" had a great supportive family with a sibling that loved him and parents that included and financially supported him. I also tossed in the extended family as well. "OP" didn't even have that one obnoxious uncle that makes fun of the liberal. His entire family was loving and supportive. The only "issue" is that they are Trump supporters.

My point was to see how absolutely deranged people on those forums are. As we saw, multiple posters recommend "OP" completely cut off ties from his loving and supportive family solely because they had different political views. Clown world indeed.

I know opinions and such... but... this overall tendency to automatically pretentiously and nostalgically hate on newer material from older bands goes way too far sometimes.

RHCP is a rare band that to me has only gotten better with age. Sum 41 is the other. Screaming Bloody Murder (2011) is their best album. Best RCHP is By the Way, long after the early shit that topic is talking about. I don't really like anything pre-BSSM, and even that and One Hot Minute I don't think are that great. And I did grow up with those, as I'm well into my 30s.

Californication was the start of their true greatness, and the last two albums have been really damn good even without Frusciante, even if they don't quite reach By The Way or Stadium Arcadium. Californication and on I can listen to fucking cover to cover in all cases with no skips and it's all incredible, with the singles often being far from the strongest songs on the records.

KKK was a terrorist organization, it used masks to hide anonymously, in order to facilitate horrible behavior and hide the fact that the people doing public violence were also public figures; police, teachers, preachers, etc. similar laws were necessary to protect citizens from roaming bands of vigilantes and troublemakers. tbh i don't see a good reason to wear a mask at a protest. if you are in protest getting arrested, having a mask on isn't going to save you.

Yep, I tended to notice them on gaming side a lot more, something like Arkham Knight and the batmobile for instance, just read the common 'accepted' theme and its iteration. They flood the boards to create these dogmatic truths and make sure the community doesn't stray from the leash.

I don’t think the stupid LTTP threads are some coordinated effort to bash or praise games. I just think it’s indicative of the millennials and gen z crowd growing up in the social media era. Everyone thinks they have to have a strong opinion/hot take on everything and share it in the most bold and visible manner possible. YouTube personalities ranting and raving about games, movies etc don’t help either.

Hence making an LTTP thread to share an opinion that’s been voiced countless times before instead of searching for and bumping the old OT or an old LTTP thread as that wouldn’t generate the attention they crave. Much less just realizing that there’s little need to share an opinion on a non-current release as there’s zero chance you have anything to add that wasn’t discussed to death when the original OT was active.

In any case, it’s not an Era specific problem unfortunately. It happens here and on all game, movie etc forums in recent years. Too many people think they’re important and that their opinion deserves a spotlight even when it’s nothing that hasn’t been already been discussed ad nauseam.

That Daisy Ridley thing is such a non story and they keep bickering about it like it's so complicated......like what's the big deal? So a friend of a friend at her friend's party said "Hey, I liked TFA but I didn't like TLJ"

Yes it's a bit blunt of a thing to say considering they don't know each other well..... But we've all been there - where someone we barely know makes a very blunt comment. In my case, people I barely know say straight up "Hey, I don't your country" - that's a bit rude, yeah, but hey I'll live.

So that's my take - yeah it was a bit too blunt and insensitive - but it happens to everyone. Let's move on (I mean to resetera, not you #Phonepunk#).

btw, seeing other forums talking about how crazy Era is....is priceless, for example on another random forum I found this post:

I thought a week ban for what I posted was already stupidly harsh, the fact it got extended and the additional warning is basically a message to fuck off for life I guess. To be clear: I don't think my posts did either of these things, and it certainly wasn't my intent to do either of those things. I was simply trying to point out it sucks that you can't criticize a movie like the Ghostbusters remake without getting concern trolled about what you "really mean." I saw the shit I was stepping into, I stepped into it with as many qualifications and caveats and acknowledging more representation is a good thing, and I'm told to get fucked. K fam. Message received.

I’m about as liberal as it gets on social issues and still didn’t fit in over there or agree at all with their thought policing, hive mind approach. I fit worse here in terms of average views/opinions on those kind of topics, but they’re easier to just avoid here with politics being it’s own forum and the gaming side thankfully mostly being game discussions.

Yet, you can't really get away with that over there without getting a "friendly reminder" that Milo Yiannopoulos was a dick to one of the actors and got kicked off Twiiter.

Well what sucks is it's not like the answer to the Era bullshit is to become a Trumper or MRA or some red pill nonsense like that. But feeling unfairly maligned for something I don't think I actually did or said does make me stop and question some shit. People are real quick to railroad everyone and "cancel" people for wrongthink and it's like...dude not everything is coming from a place of malice. Sometimes you bump into someone on accident, but you're not committing assault. My post may have been worded poorly, it may have been taken the wrong way, etc. And I think that's all I'm possibly guilty of, but, welp, not really able to defend myself or talk to anyone about it because they just fucking banned me for a month. Yeah, the movie sucked. And another poster basically expressed as much. Then there were all these indignant replies or people going "go on..." and I'm like...ok I know what these fucks are doing. They're baiting. They want this to become that conversation about representation and all I was trying to say is hey that's horseshit, you're allowed to have an opinion on the quality of the film without getting into this other debate about representation. I even specifically said I liked all the actresses in the movie and think they're funny, they were just in a shitty movie. Well take a month off for that...ugh, no, I'm good.
