Final Fantasy VIII censored on PS4? (other platforms?)

The *only* thing I care about is if this game runs with the correct NTSC timings, because the PAL version was pretty grim.
Other than that, I couldn't give a toss.
Maybe we’ll revisit this post in the future whe a game that you do ‘give a toss’ about gets censored. Then we can talk about how giving them an Inch results in them taking much much more over time.

No I’m playing this as soon as it’s available. I never thought this would ever get rereleased let alone remastered like this. Pretty awesome.

I’m looking forward to the memes though
Here here, it's one of my favourite FF's. I have them all btw as PS1 classics.....Can't wait to face Diablo, Odin and Ultimecia all over again in high def....

Just found this message on twitter a moment ago. It may be a silly thing to argue about, but... censoring a 20 year old game?

Honestly I can't tell if the yellow part on her vag is the color of her pubic hair or a yellow underwear/thong/pantsu.

That said, fuck censorship.

It makes me wonder who would even find the sexualization of a some anime fantasy goddess worth changing unless it was someone who intentionally tried to choose the most seemingly innocuous instances of censorship and infringement on creative expression to make opposers of those actions seem as idiotic as possible, so that over time they could make such opposition seem idiotic itself, and then censor things whenever they wanted in instances to push more deliberate agendas.

But surely that isn't what's happening. lol More than likely people are just trying to be politically correct.

21 years ago, there were humans that could stomach the sight of bob and vageen, can you believe that? Remember, many of these uncultured, hedonistic swine still walk amongst us. Be ever vigilant my fellow soylings *snort*.
21 years ago: Why are conservatives telling me what to do? If a woman wants to walk outside bare chested or wants to breastfeed in public, it's natural. People should grow up.

Now: Yes. Thank you for being more accepting of woman showing skin and feeding my baby in public. See? Not the end of the world.................. BUT can you fucking cover up some pixelated cartoon graphics? I don't like how the video game character is in a bikini. Make it more like a ballroom gown please.

I'm fine with this, in fact I would have preferred they just covered everything up. The less sexualized women are in life, the better it is for me as an ally of theirs.
We women shouldn't be required to "cover up" to avoid objectification. Males need to stop objectifying us by changing the way they think. We should not be required to accommodate their incorrigibility. Our bodies are just bodies. Censorship only serves to further push us back into puritanical standards of modesty that shame women for their bodies. Male objectification is the problem, not women's bodies. It's men that have to change, not us.

Nope. It's women.

Men aren't the ones forcing women to wear make up, dress in bikinis at the beach or spend $100s at the salon getting fancy hair styles. And we aren't the ones spending oodles of money at the mall for a million pairs of shoes, purses and dresses.

If women want to make a stand, then just do what most guys do..... not really give a shit. Take a shower in the morning, throw on some normal clothes and you're done. And when it comes to getting a haircut, just go for the cheap basic cut. Then style your hair at home in a basic style. And when it comes to clothes, just have a reasonable set of shirts, pants and shoes and that's it.

At work, some women come to the office like they just got out of bed. But some doll up like they think the office is a dinner date. Just do what the former do.

So, this isn't JUST on PS4? And it isn't even really a censorship thing, but a character model change (that looks better).

But, that story doesn't support the agenda - so let's just put "PS4 version" in the title.

According to the Twitter, people don't seem to know if the censorship was already there 20 years ago. I think someone said the UK version back then already looked like the pic with the skirt.

cool logic there friend. I see the misogyny is strong with you. Well luckily I don't care what you think, but I encourage you to drop the male ego and examine just why things are the way they are. Maybe you might find that the situation is far different than the simplistic view you have on it. Women aren't the problem, men are. Our bodies aren't objects or the property of men. If this is some radical, unacceptable idea to you then please feel free to refrain from further expressing any more of your hateful rhetoric towards me or anyone else.

They spend lots of money to get noticed but if it’s not someone they find attractive, well that’s objectification.

I wonder what the end goal is of these puritans. Should we bring back these swimsuits for women?

Oh no, I think I see some knee! Fuck it, let’s go full burqa and fuck with holes in sheets. It’s the only way to be sure.

Lol.

I see kneecap, still too racy.

Seems like such an insignificant set of changes, but that begs the question. If it's so insignificant, why change it at all? Is someone really going to get offended by Rinoa's PS1 era cleavage?

Also, don't women objectify and sexualize men too , but it plays out differently? I mean it's not like female designed bishonen pretty boys, women designed male romance character archetypes, the cover of every romance novel aimed at adult women(with same physical types of traits that are viewed as sexually attractive),every instance of women crowing at shirtless well physically built men, yaoi and otome don't exist right?

Is it because men just don't care? I certainly don't, women can objectify men in whatever way they want as far as I care.

It's like built into our DNA to look for physical attractiveness in the opposite sex, otherwise humanity would not exist at all no?

It's great logic.

You can cry all you want. But guys aren't the ones who spend tons of time and money to doll themselves up hoping people accept them. Most guys don't give a shit really aside from basic things like taking a shower and wearing normal clean clothes..... (and for some guys even that is a stretch! lol). The trend over the last decade or so is even to have beards and trimmed stubble instead of the daily hassle of clean cut shaving.

As I said, it's women who go to the extremes hoping people love their look.

If you don't want to feed your ego and emotions for acceptance, then simply don't give a shit about appearance. Just do what most guys do..... just wash up, wear normal shit and get a basic $20 hair cut instead of a 3 hr salon service for $200.

Not hard to do.

It's funny how Sony shows its hypocrisy.

First they say that trying to protect children with censorship measures, but yes, they give the green light and big budget to The Last of Us Part II.

Really sony, don't fuck that.

Well to be honest I don’t think anyone is certain if this is Sony or SquareEnix’s notorious “ethics office” that made this change. Until we see all versions it’s really hard to say whose decision this was.

I mean it’s really a subtle change but it makes you wonder what else they subtlety covered up. I’ll still play it regardless, just find it pretty silly.

I'm leaning towards Square, but I wouldn't put it past Sony.

No doubt it's Sony's.

The censorship also goes towards those niche teeange underskirt kind of games which were discussed earlier this year..... where the graphics would get a big white light plastered over the pic.

It's not the dev studio who decided to do this, since the Nintendo versions were uncut. Don't think the studio is acting alone trying to look out for the best ethics experience for Sony gamers because they need help, while giving Nintendo gamers the full game.

You're lucky because objectification is just a vague buzzword that doesn't mean anything other than sexual attraction but in a negative way. There's litelly no other tangible way to interpret that term in real life conditions, it's basically intersectional nutjobs being angry that men view attractive women sexually. Btw being attracted to the opposite sex is something completely natural so men will continue to do that whether you like it or not.

No one needs to change and nothing needs to be censored, men and women were fine before the nutjobs started dumpster fires everywhere.

Yup.

What some people want in life is attraction to others with ZERO influence based on appearance. So whether someone is hot or not, fat or skinny, smooth skinned or a zit face, everyone has 100% equal attractiveness when it comes to physical traits.

And they want this protocol for everyone to follow.

Not going to happen.

And it's not like women don't like hot guys as well.

Pretty sure hunks like the dudes who play Captian America and THOR are a lot more attractive to women than the gorky high school science teacher in Fast Times at Richmont High or a fat clown like Danny Devito.

My nigga, you are not going to stop men from being attracted to women. Is this a joke post?

Also, I'll wait for mods to fix this game on pc to purchase it, if I do at all.

They must thought the changes are significant for them to make the plunge. Some kind of statement maybe?

Regardless there’s NO CONFIRMATION whatsoever whether it’s on Sony’s side or SE itself doing this. We just have to wait and see how it goes for other platforms. Even then, does it matter that much who’s at fault?

Also literally no one jacks off to this shit. Quit being retarded.

I've masturbated plenty of times to Jade and Kitana's artwork in MK Trilogy's manual back when I was 15, and to this day I have a women-dressed-in-leather fetish. So don't talk as if you're positive those things don't have any effect on one's psyche.

And? Horny teenagers have the internet. Nobody's gonna jack off to a character model in a PS1 remaster and if they do it's gonna be some horny teen that would probably jack off to anything.

But Sony and Square probably don't want this anything to include their character models.

There, see? That's not offensive at all!

EDIT: In all 'seriousness', however, Square probably thinks a semi-exposed vagina is more offensive than a cleavage shot. Also, the reason they might be censoring it is the fact that someone may have pointed out that due to the increased resolution and the fact that the model is better detailed now, some gamers may not think of it as 'clothing' but as 'pubic hair' - which basically is nudity and shows a non-covered vagina.

Just playing devil's advocate here.
