He was talking about Mech. I'd love to see a new MechAssault and Crimson Skies.

His comments on pricing make me think it's going to be below $499 but we'll see.
I was thinking the same thing. He basically said they have full support by Microsoft and plenty wiggle room.

"Unannounced signed deals with third party developers to develop under the Xbox umbrella."

Money hatting, yuck.
Why the hate? Its how Sony got alot of console exclusives as well. If consoles just relied on the three first party exclusives released each year it wouldnt make For much exclusive content.

Just don't like the practice on either side. If its a moneyhat, I don't like it from any company.

I truly hope its a third party studio working on a MS IP but again if its an established, multi-platform IP, I hope MS isn't buying the exclusivity for any period of time.

It's bad for gamers.

Yes it is. The only time i feel its 'acceptable' is if say Microsoft or Sony are actually part funding the game.

Well, the thing that I will say front and center is the safety and security of the teams and there is no decision that I will make, or frankly anybody at Microsoft would even ask me to make, that would compromise the safety and security of the teams for a near term either financial or product gain. The teams are the most important thing.

I’d say pragmatically the supply chains in China have started to come back. I think we’ve seen that in the news that China was obviously earlier in dealing with C-19 before it spread and I think that we can see in the factories and stuff we’re starting to get reports back from them and that that’s working for us. The two big issues we’re kind of monitoring right now, you know, building a video game from home — a large distributed team of hundreds of people is not easy. Video games as we know right now are big and there’s huge massive asset bases that each one of these games have and how you transition I think all those things are…we’re just kind of living.

On the hardware platform side, I think I made it public when I had my Series X at home and I’m using it for testing. As much as I have a great time doing that, that kind of time with the console is important and we want to make sure that we’ve got the right amount of time for the platform tech that we’re putting in place to get all the testing done so we’ve had to move a lot of that testing in the homes. I’d say things right now aren’t easy. I think things are stretched I can feel it in the teams, they’re stretched. We have nothing right now that says we’re not going to make the dates that we’ve been planning, but I’ll also say it, as I said earlier, this is kind of real-time stuff and I’m gonna put the safety and security of the teams at the top along with the quality product. Like, I don’t want to rush a product out if it’s not ready. So, feeling good but also just being eyes wide open.

It's not all bad. Its how alot of studios survive honestly. MS covers all their development costs, supplies technical help from their ninjas, which in turn improves the skill set of their teams, they earn money, and it probably helps finance their own project. Ninja Theory said as much.

But I hate the idea of MS paying for 3 months exclusive, or exclusive DLC. Would much rather a whole new game from someone.

Pretty interesting when He mentioned they’ll be “agile” on the Xbox SEX price, and they will adjust accordingly.
I'm telling you man, even though the compute in that system is pretty insane and it should cost $500 or more, I'm seeing them mic dropping at $399.

This is such a pivotal moment for them, they have to wow people, they have to consume market share upfront. They know Sony can't feasibly go lower than that, loss leading is Microsoft's best option for making a comeback, and fueling that by pumping out games and making deals.

Took some notes while watching the vid. Kind of rough, but the interview moved fast and covered a lot of territory...
-XSX launch still on target for later this year

-Safety and security of team is paramount

-Segmented regional launch not ideal, and unlikely

-Wouldn't delay Series X platform launch for sake of game release readiness(i.e. Halo Infinite)

-Series X project started in 2016

-Q: Was it the aim to be the most powerful console?
A: Not thinking about other platforms. Hard to create goals relative to other platforms in the market

-XSX about balance between CPU and GPU. Looked at refresh rates and frame rates. Started with VRR and DXR on X1X and PC

-Performance goal is why the console looks the way it does

-Q: You watched Cerney's presentation. Reaction?
A: Felt really good about how XSX lines up. Likes the work they did with 3D audio and SSD on PS5

-It took years to get to this point with BC, latency, velocity architecture, xCloud integration

-Talked about the efforts of "forwards compatibility" coming to fruition

-When I saw their[Sony's PS5] disclosure, I felt even better about the choices we made

-Q: Do you worry about price relative to PS5?
A: You have to set a price target at beginning for yourselves

-I feel good about price and performance of XSX

-More people are taking advantage of All Access

-We think upcoming Xbox platform(XSX, PC, xCloud) is a winning plan

-Q: Is price fixed, or do you have flexibility?
A: Getting support from MS. Agile on pricing.

-Policy problems with Xbox One, not just about price. Still must have competitive price, though

-Game Pass, Smart Delivery, BC important to putting customer at center

-Allow people to play best version of games. Respect the customer. Old model "forces" player to re-buy games for better version

-What I've learned...respect the gamer. Respect the art form

-Q: Why removal of optical port from XSX?
A: Form factor, price plays a role, usage plays a role. We already had talks with headset manufacturers. We know how many use it. Did the math. Same for decisions on HDMI-In, Kinect Port, IR Blaster. Always somebody who's disappointed, but must have a plan for the future

-Phil started as software dev(MS Encarta)

-Concerning Cross-play: You should be able to play with the people you want to

-People should expect cross-play. Cross-progression and cross-buy are also things people should expect

-Q: How has it been working with Nintendo?
A: Relationship with Nintendo is great. We talk often

-Cross-platform can be confusing to customers. Rather be able to set expectations for Xbox experience for fans

-"I don't love the idea that for every one of games a little rumor pops up that it goes to Switch." Wants to set better expectations for fans

-"Ori is perfect game for me." Love having Moon Studios on Xbox

-Q: What's the strangest place you've used xCloud?
A: Nairobi, Kenya on bus, using WiFi to play Crackdown via London to Seattle connection. Jokes about frame rate/latency. Regardless, it was cool and everybody on bus wanted to see it

-Believes in social power of gaming. Bridges social gaps

-Q: Is xCloud going to be used to play game instantly before download complete?
A: Yeah that's definitely a possibility and under consideration

-Hundreds of thousands of people playing xCloud currently

-xCloud encourages people to try more games, more quickly

-Not a fan of the term "secret sauce", as if the laws of physics could be bent

-Xbox platform encourages "discoverability" of games, in the same manner that music platforms do

-Concerning xCloud latency: Limited by physics, the best experience you can have is a local device. Not trying to replace a PC or console

-Not pushing xCloud as superior, not trying to overblow it(regarding Stadia question)

-Working with ESA for E3, Game Stack Live was replacement for GDC. Studying how to virtualize announcement events

-Huge fan of E3

-Have to continue to give fans information they want. "We have a lot more to say"

-Q: Is there anything left to say about hardware?
A: We wanted to do hardware first to make room for game reveals

-Q: When can I preorder XSX?
A: Nobody should preorder without knowing the price. Info will come later in the summer

-Q: Can you address Scalebound cancellation?
A: It's a tough one, I have respect for Platinum. We tried to do something and it didn't work. Regrets being too public before we have a tangible plan and product. We're not working on it, moved past it

-Schedule is packed with new games: Ori, Flight Sim, Gears Tactics, Minecraft Dungeons

-More comfortable showing some stuff from internal teams. Better idea of where they're at in dev process

-You'll be hearing more from internal studios. The math dictates that soon we have to start announcing every time we're on stage because we have so many games

-Q: Are you setting up for significant amount of 1st-party support on launch?
A: More important people know when it's[games] coming. Doesn't necessarily help people to have 8 Xbox internal games on one day. Launch lineup is very important, but letting people know when games are coming is more important. Having a quality game is more important. A steady stream

-No Brute Force. Brute Force is not coming back. "Hahaha"

-Some great games like Sunset Overdrive deserved better, got caught up in platform noise/controversy from Xbox One problems. Same with Ryse. It's why BC is important: Some games find their audience later. Compares to Eternal Darkness on GameCube

-Can't wait to show what The Initiative is working on

-Fine line between new games and existing games IP creation is a balance we talk about. Important to have balance between feelings around old IPs and creating new experiences

-Q: What's an IP in the portfolio that you would personally like to see brought back?
A: MechAssault *immediate answer*. Obviously I picked something we're not working on. Would be cool if the stars aligned and we could bring it back

-"Shout out to Dynamite Cop for running my alt accounts on GAF while I'm busy with XSX launch. Stay safe, everyone."

Phil mentioning they aim to win next gen speaks volumes. So far they have got the best hardware, built up their first party studios, they have the best messaging and PR this gen, best back compate, best pro consumer policies, and he has said multiple times they wont be beaten on price.
MS has like 136 billion sitting in the bank. For them to match or beat Sony on price is no big deal.

I doubt and hope he's just referring to moneyhatting for timed exclusivity or dlc stuff. He's probably referring to 2nd party deals such as partnering with Splash Damage to do Gears Tactics or Asobo doing Flight Simulator.

I'm curious as to what potential studio's MS could be partnering with to make exclusives. Remedy is out. I guess Crytek would be a potential partner again. Platinum is out I suppose. There are quite a few start up AAA studios that have formed in the last few years that could fit. Iron Galaxy again could be one.

Wasn't there hints by Matt on resetera saying MS is going all swinging at this E3 and stated that there is going to be a situation where cherished games will only played on certain platforms or something?

Damn I would love a new Mech Assault. had so much fun with the game one Live. I wouldn't mind a remaster.

Selfishly plays on Xbox Purr-ies X
He could of said 'i dont want to talk about Sony, i'm sure they will have a brilliant machine' etc. I mean sure Ryan was trying to goad him into sayiing something fanboyish, but still Phil said he felt very good where they are at after watching Cerny, with a huge grin while saying it.

Yeah, his grin said more than his words and you just KNOW he was wearing that same grin when Cerny was babbling on about SSD, SSD, SSD, Variable Clock speed, 3D audio, 10.2TFs, SSD, 3D audio

399 it is.
It’s hard not to read something into his comments on pricing.
The logical part of my brain - the part that understands business and the need to make money - says it must be $499. You don’t pack a RTX 2080 Super and a Zen2 CPU into a box for anything less.
And yet... the hype part - the part that fell in love with the hyperbole around Fable back when it was Project Ego, the part that loved what the original Xbox brought to the table - desperately wants Phil to drop the $399 bombshell. It’s not even about the money for me - I wanna see the board light up when the slide goes up on the projector. It would break GAF. Hype as fuck.

If you didn't listen to it yet, don't bother.

Ryan McCaffrey basically hyped up a Skype meeting with Spencer which cut out here and there, and Spencer said basically nothing but generalities.

The only tidbit that was important (assuming he was truthful) is SeX pricing might be revealed in the summer.

The one good thing about Spencer chats is he's down to earth and brings up classic games. He might be an exec, but you can tell he' still a gamer. Try to get Bobby Kotick or Reggie to talk games and development and those guys have no idea what's happening unless it's getting on stage and talking balance sheets.

They’re gonna slam the hell out of customers somewhere if they do go $399 nothing is ever for free!

with that said, you can have the lowest price point for entry but where are the games?

mall I’ve seen so far was “Eco Modern SeaWarfare” and that was not what I was expecting!

I dont know what the fuck is that, but they have already shown Halo Infinite, Hellblade II, Project Mara, Flight Simulator and Everwild. And there are more games from other newer studios to be shown soon.

Im very eager to see what they're lining up. They really need to deliver on the games now. We need a competitive gen like the 360/ps3 one.

Says he has the full backing of Microsoft with Satya Nadella (CEO) and Amy Hood (CFO) and believes they have a target price that can win. He also name drops the Xbox All Access plan.

Oh shit. As expected!
This is scary now ! For Sony!

Yeah hellblade I have to see running on actual hardware and shit, I get that killzone 2 gameplay trailer feeling about that one and project Mara is just that, a project!

halo is not even being developed for sex but merely a backwards compatible game!

Xbox Series X was also once called Project Scarlet. Project Mara is a teaser for an actual game.
