UbiSoft will remove "ableist text" from Assassin's Creed because a dude complained about it.

I usually stray away from things like this, but it's just ridiculous. Especially in a game where you're getting rewarded for murdering and dismembering people constantly. Don't see dead people tweeting their ludicrous grievances.

Gonna be honest I thought the guy was supposed to be more famous (at least to have more followers and to be in different kind of games news website)

but he has only 2 k something followers and looks like nobody knows him....why Ubisoft is open their legs??
Nothing against the victim but all this looks a bit forced.

The anarchist in me wants to build a campaign of people complaining (even if it's trolling) along similar lines to see how far Ubisoft would actually go. If they really believe this idiot's complaint is worth changing the game for, surely there are far more serious things.

For instance, someone can claim they were born without legs at all (rare but happens) and pretend to be offended at the limb-chopping in the game. Would they remove that? If not, why not? How insensitive of them.....

It feels like some George Karlin sketch or something :messenger_tears_of_joy:

One-handed person -> person with the hand difference
Dead person -> person that has issues with living
Sick person -> person with bacteriological difficulties

The sad thing is that it is just another American issues, that will spread across the world like the virus. People will have sweet time with China, who does the same:messenger_grinning_sweat:Let the green blood return

Because the person founded a website dedicated to reviewing games from the POV of disabled people ("For disabled people, by disabled people") which seems to be somewhat known (never heard of it before myself), and understandably, it would be bad PR for a company to have a movement like this fling shit at you. So Ubisoft giving in to this so quickly shows that they don't want to get into that website's crosshair. It's cowardly, but understandable, because who wants to put up with that fuss?

I don't think they even care for the precedents they set. The lowering of the acceptable trigger bar.

Ableism my ass. That description is not offensive, disrespectful or hurtful.

The fact that a woke rando on twitter got offended (embarassed) on behalf of his GF is not enough to warrant a change an already neutral language.

It's a shortsighted sell sell sell now, we don't need this shit on our plate.

He was also gifted review copies early. I mean what are the fucking rules these days? Have 100 followers and be part of socJus?

Odyssey sold over 10 million at last count. One tweet means they run a patch into the game immediately? lol.

I wonder if someone could get rid of microtransactions in the industry by calling them “classist and racist”. People like this on Twitter can be a real force of good.

Do you think these French madlads care about this?

Pander as long as it means profit.
Pandering to Twitter psychos is the new norm. Have you seen Ubi leads? Half of them are diversity hire for the sake of only having diversity.

Learn to live with it.
Hopefully someday they realize their mistake

I am offended by this game because they are glorifying the destruction and rape of my culture. You play as an occupying force who come into my country unannounced and slaughter my people and steal priceless holy artifacts that people worship to sell as nothing but trinkets.

So as I am offended and have a much larger case based on the whole sale rape and slaughter of Northumberland which can be felt to this very day in our overall larger average height, abundance of blue eyes and lighter hair how are Ubisoft going to change the game to not positively depict the rape of my entire region from an invading force?

Yeah... see how this fucks you over Ubisoft? so don't bother listening to every minor none complaint when your entire game has a much bigger fucking problem hanging over it, last time I checked in AC the crusaders where the bad guys for doing this exact same thing, you dont get to have it both ways just because your French and hate the English.

I mean if the girlfriend exists and it made her feel bad I guess it’s good that they changed it. Also this twitter person is the first time I’ve seen pronouns be anything other than he/him so that’s something.

Looks more like an "it" ngl
do people actually do this IRL or is it just an internet thing?

like say i had a friend called Bob. i'd say "he wants to come over and play fifa!". but let's say Bob doesn't identify as a "he" but an "it". do people really say "it wants to come over and play fifa!"

"it wants a pizza!"

"it wants to go see a movie"

"it doesn't like chinese food it prefers indian!"

i think it sounds really weird and i can't imagine anyone ever speaking like that outside the internet.

Don't know man, I don't have the luck to have that kind of friends but it sure does look weird to me.

Imagine that same person waiting in line or in a public space and someone refers to them by the incorrect pronum. Do they get pissed? Do they have to go telling everybody their pronoun? Why not wear a sticker with it written on it? It's madness.

And it sounds even weirder when your native languaje isn't english. The first time I read the they/them pronouns I stayed 5 minutes reading that thinking "wtf am I reading?".

i've never heard anyone use anything other than he/she.

that's interesting too. like the other day i was at the shops and there was a woman behind me and i said to the cashier "i'll let her go first i've not got much". what if that lady identified as "it" ? i couldn't imagine anyone being like "how dare you! i actually take offense to being called her. i'm an "it". now say it properly..." if you identify as something other than he/she then you can't expect people to know. maybe they should wear a badge if it upsets them so much.

they probably just silently rage and rush on to twitter/resetera to vent. it must be an internet thing. people get away with all sorts of shit on here that won't fly IRL. maybe they need to spend less time on the internet.

I usually hate these kinds of things and it's definitely a slippery slope. It will create a very narrow space for artists to work in if they have to adjust to every single remark.

On the other hand, I kind of understand this. I mean, if I had burn scars I'd feel terrible and ashamed, while trying hard to cope with it. I wouldn't want to read how awful it is either. Maybe if this little side story, or whatever it is, delved deeper into the subject, it'd make us all feel empathy and be more understanding on this very topic.

WTF is this world coming too? People complain about everything.
People have always complained but before there was no social media for them to tell the world. The more disturbing part, as I stated above, is that companies are actually listening to these marginal individuals (a single one in this case).

Not really. Ubisoft should have added white to the description and it would become ok.

I am writing you all from afterlife.

I have a scar on my leg and when I heard that there is such a character with that kinda description... I fucking killed my self.

Thank you UbiSoft for listening to the people.

You are a great company

Seems like his/her/its days on the interwebs are numbered. There's probably 100 nerds with nothing better to do right now trying to dig up dirt. It should be over soon.

This stuff is absolutely delirious. We are discussing woke paranoias on a video game based on none other than vikings!!! For godsake, these guys were pirates, that used to raid, rape and kill people as a 9to5 job. The ones that they did not kill, they enslaved and sold in the market. What they couldn’t steal, they burned. And we want them to be mindfulness compliant?

Why is it fucking always Americans...
Every time.

Either way, the fact that it's Ubisoft being so easily persuaded by this makes it even more laughable considering all of the drama surrounding Ubisoft.
And since when was having a burnt face a disability?

awww tough crowd :( i hope he will get his big cancel break another time.

maybe this one will do better!

or another game?

Is this supposed to be a serious person?
This seems more like some kind of a weird troll.

If you're gonna be so incredibly sensitive about this stuff then why the hell would one then go on to be nasty like this?
Gotta love too how it's supposedly always men, when there were a ton of women calling this stupid too.

I recall gamers complaining that the games are censored in Asia due to China. The same is on the west - due to the USA the western games are also censored.

Both situations suck, but at least we have the freedom to debate this. That being said, the way people are being cancelled these days I wonder if that's even true anymore.

It's absolutely unacceptable for that rainbow colored hair freak to try to tell other people what to do.

If that's the way he wants then I am offended by his rainbow colored hair that discriminates against people of mono hair color and I demand he shave it all off immediately!

"Think like me or you are wrong!"

I hate what is happening to society. It's fucking disgusting.

It is already partial freedom and it is withering - there are fewer and fewer topics that you can discuss in the open. And all the allowed topics should be regarding only certain issues.
