GAAS should be attempted only by companies with deep pockets.

Hope she has secured funding from Sony and is not paying for it from her own pocket.

I mean, I don't mean to be that guy, but doesn't this team seeking those publishers to do this, prove it was the TEAM that wanted to do this vs simply just EA and Ubisoft things? Maybe they wanted like minds and felt EA and Ubisoft would want the same things or something. Who knows.

I feel though both publishers support those ideas, they also support quality games regardless and maybe they didn't see enough from what they were working on to really continue development. Saying GAAS to EA or Ubisoft doesn't automatically mean they will support trash knowingly, maybe they didn't like what they saw and moved on. Sony is known to give lots of chances to new stuff and maybe they feel this is different enough from what they normally put out to have it fit and have a place.

So at least when this game is officially revealed, we know the TEAM ITSELF wanted this and wasn't forced by EA, Ubisoft or Sony to make it or something.
They as in Sony let Ueda pitch The Last Guardian and Kojima pitch Death Stranding.
Jade Raymond’s team pitched a GaaS game, why wouldn’t it be their idea to do this? she’ll leave the project at some point anyway so it’s moot.

I mean.. her game is a PlayStation game, no reason why she wouldn't be getting money lmao

It's been a trend recently. Outer Worlds, Control were self funded by Obsidian, Remedy. They did well cause they had a fixed budget and we're good.

Cliffy B attempted a couple of multiplayer focused GAAS games, but had to abandon mid project due to money he was loosing.

Because you literally just said Jade Raymond's team pitched a GaaS game....... as in, they are offering a idea that they have and want a publisher to fund....

As in, its that team's idea vs EA, Ubisoft, Sony etc.

Sony may have let Kojima and Ueda make those games, but those teams still made those games based on their own ideas and thoughts, Sony didn't just put a gun to their heads and be like "it better have dat Norman Reedus fella in it" lol

So this shows what they are making is a GAAS game and its likely what they have been working on under Ubisoft, EA etc and they are simply shopping for publishers. Had this released under EA or Ubisoft, many would have argued it was EA or Ubisoft's idea or something like that considering their trend in that direction, not knowing the fuckiing TEAM THEMSELVES are freely, independently "pitching" that idea.

I don't trust Jade Raymond to actually deliver a game let alone a GaaS. Even the bigger more experienced studios can't seem to get it right by the looks of all the recent flops in the genre.

Yosp gave us Bloodborne, Hermen gave us a GaaS by nobody Raymond, while also porting PS games on PC.

Fire this clown and give us back Yosp or somebody else with good gaming tastes.

I mean...what are you going to say? Jade's team pitched an idea that isn't theirs?

Good luck =)

I don't see the news here.

We already knew it was a 2nd party game, which means a PS5 exclusive. We already knew it was a AAA multiplayer, so nowadays it means GaaS because basically all successful AAA multiplayer games are GaaS.

Many people asked Sony to make more multiplayer/GaaS games because they focused too much on single player products. I think it's a good approach: to keep single player products like TLOU2, GoT or God of War and keep doing these games, while other teams try with multiplayer/GaaS.

Exactly. Multiplayer games have to be GaaS.

Look at the bright side - goging with Ryan's latest interview, this game will be THE BEST GaaS! ;D
And it’s going to have Sony Studios logo on it. Let’s see if the brand soars or slowly slips into the gutter. Signs aren’t looking too hot

They wil continue having awesome single player, non GaaS games like God of War and their many other very successful IPs.

They will try with some multiplayer GaaS games with this people, the CoD BO guys, the Destiny guys and so on. Some of them will suck, some of them will be awesome. The great ones will get long term support and sequels, the ones that will suck won't.

They will continue dominating.

I hope so. But I don’t like this throw shit at the wall and see what stick approach. That ain’t healthy in the long run.

It worked for them perfectly until now, so they will continue doing it but now trying with more game types and markets. A lot of games from many diverse types: SP, MP, game as product, as a service, established IPs, new IPs, big and small game, some more traditional, some more experimental, from many different genres. Made by proven, experienced, successful devs.

Sure, some will fail and tank. And many other will be awesome and super successful. And like every other company, they will keep what it works for them.

I prefer that over a the more conservative approach from Nintendo of releasing less games and mostly focus on decades old IPs and ports. Or the big AAA inactivity of MS during a long period of time plus not being able of creating constantly new top IPs and instead having to buy them (but hey, seems that MS is improving and that it will change in the future, they will have an approach more similar to Sony).

Sony isn't blind/dumb, they see (and everyone who checks their financial reports) that PS+ and DLC/MTX is what brings them the most money, so they obviously want to push in that direction. And if they'll keep their smart schedule, a.k.a. releasing games when there's no competition at all, like in Q1-2, somewhere around summer etc., the game has a chance to be super successful. Gaf will hate it, already does without even seeing a single screenshot, but the rest of the world might love it if the gameplay's right, same as what's going on currently with Tom Clancy's XD - yes they are spitting on the franchise, but most people couldn't care less, it's F2P so a ton of people will give it a try, the gameplay looks solid, and if Ubisoft releases it in the right period, it can easily become one of their greatest successes, I'm sure all the teenagers out there will absolutely love the art direction and will want to buy as many cosmetics as possible.

I feel that is just too harsh. Look, I don't think they are just guessing or just randomly giving money away, they have closed down enough teams to show when they feel something isn't working, theyare willing to walk away. I don't see that as sign of throwing anything at the wall to see if it sticks.

If they see something here that feels like it can be something great, I see no reason for Sony to not fund this to give it a shot as they have a history of supporting new IP and I'd argue THAT is healthy for the industry. If its nothing, Sony simply won't make sequels.

Shit, I'd argue this is the best publisher to even see if such a thing will or not, they have no fears of dropping any team, IP, sequel etc if it doesn't work out. So i'll reseve judgement for when it actually reveals, goes in beta, releases etc. I'll will say this though, not to be negative towards their efforts, but doing a multiplayer game correctly might be one of the hardest things to do in gaming.....it takes a truly talented team to properly do any type of major networking where even some of the biggest teams in gaming have failed in theses areas. They have a uphill battle even before any major announcement.

ZywyPL ZywyPL Agreed completely. What ever Sony sees in this, they have to see something they know might move massive numbers. We just don't know. I tend to never give my personal feelings on such games when talking about the market in general as I don't really play these types of games now days outside of Battlefield, 99% of what I play is single player lol, but you are correct, people need to stop getting in their feelings and consider, we didn't know what Fortnite would become, fuck we didn't see what APEX was going to be and that game just showed up out of nowhere and just starting breaking records.

So i don't get why people start to dismiss such things simply based on their personal opinions on those titles. I don't play many of theses games, but I'm not going to pretend others don't and won't or something.

That new Ubisoft MP title very much could be the next APEX or Fortnite, we just don't know, same can be stated about this Sony title. They have strong art direction made for memes and customization and solid gameplay, it could be the next big MP title. Its a hard, hard genre to do well in, but things like this can occure.

The only gaas I like have been siege and Apex and that's because they have focused on good gameplay first. I've yet to like much others

I don't know why people keep assuming that all games as a service titles won't evolve into something unexpected and genuinely amazing.

GAAS is a stand in for multiplayer and NeoGAF hates multiplayer. Meanwhile Ghost of Iki comes out as DLC and they go wild for it.

You're 100 percent right though. GAAS will grow and evolve into a term the majority of gamers prefer.

Fuckin' lol.

GAF doesn't hate MP. Most gamer's just have gotten tired of the MTX filled, unfinished bullshit that is synonymous with GAAS titles. There is zero reason to ever buy into GAAS and not wait 2-3 years for the game to be actually finished and on sale.

GAF strongly prefers single player over multiplayer...

The only reason to "buy into" GAAS is if the game offers something you value. The reason why so few wait to play the industries best GAAS games is because those games are fun right from the start. People are very attracted to the idea of having fun.

The reason NeoGAF tries to pile on GAAS is because, rightly or wrongly, they view GAAS as a threat to their traditional $70 AAA single player games.

Lol for real? She left Ubisoft to make a studio with Gaas games? Wow. How much brave. How much innovative. A new sunshine for the industry.

People gonna once again treat this as the ultimate truth? This is no news, only a rumor.

If true yeah it would be sad as fuck(I would be the first to skip this shit). But until proved, won't be falling for this bait.

Should be a neutral option. It can go either way. People seem to love seaof thieves. I love destiny, gta online, etc.

Sure there are shit ones. But know nothing about it.
