Now that's some diversity I can get behind. :messenger_smiling_hearts:

He's a god with a magic hammer. His health compared to humans is irrelevant.

I see him for the first time in this thread, he looks pretty great for God of War, that's actually very smart to avoid any similarity to the MCU Thor.

I think having a different and more accurate depiction is cool. It fits the characters who is supposed to be a dumb brute who strikes first and asks questions later.
I just think the armor looks silly, either make him shirtless or make him fully armored. The cut out beer belly looks dumb.

I also hope they make the gods a bit more over the top. I know Norse gods aren't as flamboyant as Greek ones but I hope they still make them more than just some strong dude.
Like remember Poseidon?

It’s not supposed to be authentic as much as show a multi dimensional character that’s a bit twisted ( evil ) . it’s the flaws that make characters real.

I'm a lifter. Something that isn't clear by looking at these strongmen is how painfully low their endurance is. The issue with Thor as depicted is that he would be winded exceedingly quickly if he were like the men above. They train for intense bouts of energy expenditure, not a prolonged engagement with weapons against one or several adversaries. You don't get to be so freakishly strong and huge without sacrificing other areas of fitness.

A good video illustrating this is the friendly sparring match Connor McGregor had vs The Mountain (Hafthor Johansson):

Watching this, look how hard that guy is breathing just moving around. He's becoming exhausted with all the movement, because of how damn big he is.

My favorite part is when Hafthor was able to physically grab Connor and you can see the dude trying everything he could to get away from the monster.

Valid points, but don't forget this is still a God of War game first & foremost. A fantastical setting with its own set fo rules.
It's evident the character designers drew visual inspiration from certain depictions of the actual mythological figure as well strongmen powerlifters.
It's not trying to be a grounded, realistic depiction in terms of function necessarily.
Character designs have multiple goals, one of which is to communicate something about their personality or persona to the audience.

Look at Baldur for instance. He's considerably leaner and smaller than Kratos, but still was tossing him around. The same goes for Kratos and the giants he's bested.

Just.....what. No im not saying I want #hemsworth in this I dont mind the attire the hair etc. Its just, a god that should be one of the most recognize-able and should scream badassery is thor but just.....whaaaaattttt

I also dislike how much like the other site "omg body shaming how dare you" do people realize how unhealthy it is to be obese? Its not just a detriment to yourself its also to our health care system. If you can walk to the fridge fine you can exercise. Stop making obesity a norm in society.

When I see Thor like this I'm not thinking about how cool or powerful he looks, Im thinking about diabetes.

I think they should give him Seth Rogan Nipples.

16th century, thor middle, odin right. He was a bit fat.

But that guy looks straight up like he explodes from the game.

I think this is the 10th century, he's not fat here. One of them is thor.

People also didn't like Fat Thor in Avengers Endgame, but letting himself go to drinking and being a slob was more or less Norse Thor and fitting of the new GoW since none of the humanoid villains exactly looked attractive.

You're probably going to be disappointed by Odin, too since they pointed out he's not some almighty guy in a castle in Asgard, but an old old man.

Yeah, definitely not a fan of the design. I think the problem is it's hard to take a fat man with a hammer seriously when you're playing as someone like Kratos whose murdered the ever living fuck of several gods at this point.

On the other hand, this design isn't completely out of left field, though. All the Norse gods seem to have this rural, hillbilly, white trash aesthetic they're going for. I guess they wanted to contrast it with how refined most of The Olympians came off as. It's not something that'll make me pass on the game but it's something I find a bit disappointing.

Ummm, yeah he could of been a bit taller. Or even a bit less fat but Im sure its pretty accurate to the mythology and its not the best design but Im sure its gonna be an epic fight.

Just imagine it as, Thor’s got all the broads, he’s a known legend and warrior, he’s getting arrogant from all the praise and worshop and he’s letting himself go.
He’s suppose to be a huge eat and drinker and kinda cruel. Kinda like King Henry the 8th. He want from handsome and in shape to a fat cruel fuck

But for me he looks a bit short, the fat I can deal with lol.
He doesnt look like the statue in GOW 2018 at all though

What you need to understand, these guys are going for more "grounded" look for the gods rather than fantastical look like Atlus does in SMT.

Here is Baldur comparison.

GOW

In GOW he looks like normal look for Viking at those times, meanwhile SMT went with super weird design (which what I love about them).

Thor in Norse Mythology is kind of a drunk and said to be a big eater.
The Marvel movies are not an accurate representation of Norse Mythology lol.

At the same time... Freya in GoW is not like Freya from Norse Mythology but I guess she wouldn't be '' current day '' enough.............
Which is pretty damn disappointing to me as Scandinavian, it's like cool they're using our mythology but then they just don't represent it properly.
Freya might as well just be a complete rando hobo woman, there's nothing about her to me at all that really makes her seem like Freya the Goddess.

His design looks pretty indistinguishable from Kratos.
If you put Kratos in that gear you'd never even be able to guess it belonged to Thor, it just looks lazy tbh. It's very unimaginative.

But that's what I've c ome to expect from Western devs...

Come on, Tor looks badass!

Balder in the previous game was a bit out there though, he’s supposed to be an overly warm-hearted Crist-like character impossible to dislike. But iirc the thinking is that he morphed into that mad biker dude after living too long without being able to get hurt.
Fighting Freja in Ragnarök is going to feel weird, it’ll be interesting to see how they set up that fight.

It's not even the obesity. He just looks.... Generic. Thor God of Thunder should look a bit more... Impressive I think. This guy looks like an extra from Vikings tv show.
Here is thing in GOW the Gods are not shown as "impressive" higher beings but rather as tyrants.

From I can guess the reason they went with that design is show Thor as spoiled son of Odin who heavily relys on power of his Hammer....but that just a guess.

Well, the Norse Gods did live a luxurious life... You think sixpacks grow themselves?
