I just read that the Eikon Challenge is amazing.
Does it affect your save file?
I dont think so? Because it takes place in later chapter and you have abilities that you shouldn't in that section of the story.

It doesn’t, I’m pretty sure the abilities you have access to in that segment aren’t going to be available in the retail release until later.

Maybe everyone knows this already but I thought I may have only noticed since I am a big DMC fan.

The game basically has maxACT from DMC built-in and you don’t need to unlock it.

After any sword attack press the magic button when the sword strike is hitting and you will do a quick magic melee. This does not stop your sword combo. So basically after any attack there is a timing to get some extra magic damage. This is the best way to stagger enemies when you are high on health and being aggressive.
It feels great to pull off, but takes some timing to get used to. I know they have the option in the ability menu, but it still let's you do it before the ability options open up?

Gotta laugh at anyone saying the combat isn’t good or is shallow. Clearly they have no idea what they’re talking about. At all.

The combat feels absolutely great. I think the concern I have is that it'll be way too easy without any way of increasing difficulty during the first playthrough.

I know this is just the tutorial section of the demo...but I am basing this concern off of recent Square Enix games being so easy where it'll take no effort or skill.

If you play the Eikon challenge, I think a lot of people get excited and right into the action to use the new abilities. However, in the menu (under gear) there's some additional gear with higher stats to improve str/def/stagger.
There are also some additional rings that have % boost to str and Def along with % boost to fire commands. There are also rings that can be found and equipped in the challenge too

Final Fantasy fans, what was the last game that was universally beloved (not including remakes)? Seems like one of those series where the fans are always divided.
Growing up, I wasn't interested in Final Fantasy. I was all about Dragon Warrior. FF7 is what got me into the series, so I haven't played anything before 7

Certain critical paths may be a tad easy but I’m sure they’ve filled this game with end game side content that offers significant challenge

Finished both parts of the demo.

Story:
I'm glad you pretty much play any FF title as your first and it doesnt matter (for continuity sake). Its a little too dramatized in some parts, but I think that's just how Japanese studios write their scripts. I'm interested in the cast of characters. So far, I only find one annoying. It will be interesting how the story progresses from where you leave off from both playable parts.

Combat:
It takes a bit to get used to, but once you do, it's pretty fluid. I found myself fumbling through here and there, and not dodging as I should. Some of the harder fights, there is a lot of stuff going on and can get really confusing with the different holds and swaps you have to do (and fast). I still have to figure out how to get across the room fast and trying to target a single enemy with multiple in the room can be tricky. I found myself using X+■ a lot. Difficulty wasn't too bad, I was able to beat both parts of the demo without dieing. Also,
having O ingrained as dodge, I might change buttons around next time.

Visual:
Started on Performance, but the blur and camera were so bad, I changed to visual and it mostly corrected itself. I don't know if it's a bug in the version, but it made it almost unplayable for me (glad I tried again because it's good). The environments are pretty standard, the assets also look pretty average. However. Character models/ bigger environmental textures/Skybox/lightening/effects look great (should be looked at in bigger spaces than upclose at things in corridors). FOV is a little close so some parts felt like playing Dark Souls.

Overall, its a very good demo. It's FF, but has combat structured more like GoW/Souls/Fable/etc. I will more than likely pick it up because the gameplay is pretty exciting. The story so far....idk...it's interesting, but the combat is where it shines. Hopefully, with the full release, the story picks up. It's a prelude demo after all, so it's not really meant to be that exciting in terms of story at this point
Complete opposite experience for me. The game is way too easy from the demo's action mode. This needs a difficulty several levels above that. The battle with the dragoon at the end was a cake walk. The hardest thing about the demo was holding R2 to open the door.

Dissidia Final Fantasy on PSP. Not a mainline game but still.

FFXIV Shadowbringers. Technically a full length expansion but this is the peak of XIV and arguably the most Final Fantasy (superb antagonist, memorable locations, great music, all kinds of Squaresoft's nostalgia) FF in a decade.

The Active Time Lore is such a great implementation. Hopefully, this is a feature that is adopted going forward.
Allowing players to view it during almost any cutscene it's pretty cool. It's essentially a more dynamic datalog.

Can help provide context to some players having trouble following the plot and keeping track of who is who.

I was in action too. The Dragoon fight wasn't very tough, although, the Eikon challenge ramped it up a bit. That was a weird mechanic, but I'm guessing major PS5 developers have to used the dual sense controller function(s) in some way. Unless that's how they add weight to the world. For holding buttons down, I didn't like holding R2 then ■ or Triangle.
I'm sure the final release will get pretty challenging

The bear of bad news
Its to easy and button mashy? I don't thinks it will doos good for Final Fantasy fans sales

Most hard combat games these days are hard in the beginnings and stay hard if this floaty combats doesn't majorly levels up I think I'll nope out on purchasing going to waits for trusted combat veterans to gives their inputs

None

6, 7, Tactics and 14 (2nd version) probably get the least but there's valid critisism and thus preference even there. 10 is mentioned here, but 10 was so heavily critizized for its linearity that I wouldn't put it in the above bracket. That said its not far off by any degree.

In the end its about you and how you enjoy a game. And that's fine.
I love 9 and the battle speed never bothered me for example.

It doesn't affect anything, you can't create a save on that mode.

Be aware of your overpowered character while playing that mode, make sure you remove the rings for a harder experience.

Be careful online people have the game now. I'm staying off Reddit and YouTube. I ran across some Locations that haven't been shown anywhere yet and holy fuck do they look good. I don't want to see any more. Unless you don't mind spoilers stay out of the FFXVI Reddit.
Damn. I hate when this happens. Thanks for the warning.

PSA: Y'all can use this Google Chrome extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/spoiler-protection-20/eelacikjiplnmdingehjfdjcfegclmkg

Add keywords like Clive, Joshua, Final, Fantasy, Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy XVI, death, plot, revealed, kill, etc. This will hide all articles, words, social media posts, and even YouTube videos with those keywords in the titles.

I like the idea but honestly can’t see myself stopping the flow of a cutscene every second to see updates on the lore. Thankfully the option exists outside the cutscenes and can be accessed from the menu at anytime it states in the demo.

Oh dude Duodecim is still one of my favorite games to this day.

Really wish we could have it ported to console as a remake. Such a fantastic fighter with a lot of fun fan service.

Ok finished the demo. Pretty amazing.

Don't want to reignite the debate but for me it's feels like the old school 2D FF adapted into modern consoles. So good.

Story looks pretty good for me so far. Really like the combat but hope minor enemies are more aggressive. I wanted to practice parry but they barely attack even if you stand still before them.
Eikon battles are nice to look but it's mainly interactive cutscenes... I am usually not speaking about performance issue but I had a very noticeable one (and it has to be pretty serious for me to notice that) during a cinematic moment of this fight. Heavy slow down (very choppy so I don't think it was intentional) but other that than it was perfect (Graphic mode).

Then I did the Eikonic challenge (skipped all cutscenes since it's later in the game and I want to appreciate them in context). Was overwhelmed by all the sudden option you have (dogs command, limit break, 6 eikons abilities + unlock...). First run was rough, I didn't even see the prompt for limit break so I didn't use it.
Did a quick second run and combat gets better and better. Eikon's abilities are so cool. Love the Titan's one, especially its special parry. Sooo good !
It feels really good to chained these attacks. Like heavy punch a guy away with Titan's abilities then pull it back with Garuda's.

Final fight is pretty good. A bit surprised that when you die, you restart at the beginning of the current phase of the boss and they refill you potion stock. They kind of reward you for dying. Maybe it's just a demo thing.

I directly preorder the game after that. Will not play much more of the demo. Waiting for the release to experience it fully (and get all the abilities progressively, getting everything at once is too overwhelming for me)

The game is not without default (very "AAA" philosophy with heavy guidance and lots of unnecessary "interactive moments" like door opening or eikons fight) but it still looks a top tier game.

So now that dust has settled a little bit, what is the recommended way to play the demo ? (Was on a business trip all week, can’t wait to play it finally this week end)

Performance isnt locked at 60 and 30fps feels smoth enough imo, demo build is 1.01 an old build so expect better performance on the final game

I played in performance, noticed a few drops in certain battles, but it didn't really feel like a big deal. My jaw was dropped for other reasons.

It's not my Final Fantasy, it's something entirely different. Very adult oriented, very dark. The combat is action for casuals and highly story driven. The demo had me wanting more and hooked. The game feels like it has enough final fantasy spirit in it. I do still prefer something like X and slower combat. But FF7 Remake turned me around. But this game does feel and look fantastic. I would hope the game opens up at some point and we get the customary air ship freedom.

Can't wait for more.

Is there a chance that the game becomes available earlier than the release dates at retailers (in Canada)? That was the case for FFVIIR

FF14 is an amazing game, and loved by those who played. Especially through the latest expansion EndWalker

Thats a possibility with every physical game. Some people already have a copy so there’s spoilers out there.

All it took for me to never touch the graphic mode with a 10' pole is simply spinning the camera in a circle once I had player control. The motion is so choppy and the forced motion blur is horrible. I don't even care if the framerate is all over the place, performance mode made it tolerable by removing the motion blur somewhat and just making the motion in general much smoother.

I played on Graphics mode and found the performance perfectly acceptable, but I'm a filthy casual and usually fine with 30 fps so ymmv.
