so it's their fault that you don't want to use your abilities, combat manuvers, spells, timing? I'm stuggling to understand this concept of people complaining about the combat system when it can be mixed up in various ways if you attempt to do so.
It's still more involved than 95% of other WRPG combat options even if you don't take full advantage of the system (the dodge mechanic alone makes sure of that).
If he were a REAL fan he'd buy it on Steam, Origin, and boxed retail PC.
I heard devil may cry combat is pretty lame at the start with no skills unlocked too.
No this game wont be anything close to that but I wanted a drastic example.
Devil May Cry is at least challenging and technical. I straight up stunlocked a giant rock monster with a rusty longsword just by hitting it a lot. Then i finished him off with a BADASS QTE YEAH TAP SPACE ROCK N ROLL

You are trying way too hard :3
Yeah, it is their fault that I didn't have to use any special abilities to win. Yes it is their fault that all of the things they designed into the combat system were made redundant by clicking the mouse a lot.
I think you need to play more WRPGs. I suggest the Gothic series. Well, okay, SOME of the Gothic series.
Actually you know what I'd suggest Two Worlds over this.

I've played the demo about 5 or 6 times now, each one playing it completely different. I've had enemies attack me intelligently, swiftly, and in unison. There are lots of different options to deal with each situation, but if you want to mash on one button for 45 minutes and then claim that the system is shallow, then so be it. The game is not for you, sorry you wasted your time.
Gothic combat is involved? lol. Which gothics did you play?

I never said it was shallow. I said it was crappy. It could have 800 billion different combos and movesets for all I know. That's the thing-- I didn't need to know because clicking a lot worked A-OK.
If something is there and it's not reinforced in any way and is made entirely redundant by mashing one button then it might as well not be there in the first place.
Dude, it's the tutorial boss. What are you expecting?
Anyone else getting some weird pauses on the PC? It seems to happen when attacking an enemy or box.

I used different tactics in the demo just cuz I could, but I'm fairly confident I could of done it without anything but button mashing. It was definitely very easy. The combo system is built so that you have to make choices. You can continue to build those 4-5-6 hit chains, but the more powerful attacks you build up to are going to have longer animations. You can always cancel out of them (until the final power move) with a block or roll or magic attack, but that's part of the checks and balances so that as you progress through the game it's not just a button mashing fest where everything is simple.
I'm assuming none of you played through to a dungeon like Gorguath (from the House of Ballads quest line) where there are actual bosses and more complex enemies. You're not going to survive in there by just smashing the button.
The intro movie talks about a powerful race called the "fae" which is a stupid name for a powerful race.
Hahaha. Sorry, I really had to laugh. Fae is another word for fairy. The old fashioned going-to-seduce-you-and-eat-your-heart kind, not the tiny fluttery wing kind. They also reference Tuatha. The whole thing is pretty much taking off from Irish mythology.
If he's not a troll, then he's probably of the attitude that anything other than American myth is liberal horseswallow.
But I think he's a troll.
Are you saying that I am a racist because I don't think fairies are badass?

Steamworks on steam, originworks on origin.

No, I'm saying that shunning anti-Americanism would be the logical next step for your hilariously dudebro rant.

What does this even mean? When installing the retail version, I get to choose whether to link it to Steam or Origin?
There now YOU are proven a jerk by crazy mirror-world logic!
Oh yeah?! Well your a big doo doo head, and I'm a big boy!
Ha.
You're aware that it's the "tutorial" boss, yes?
You should develop games. They'd be totally exxtr3me.
no sorry, I should have said more than that to be clear. If you buy the game on steam, it will come with steamworks, steam achivements, Tf2 stuff.
If you buy the game from origin, or retail box it will need to be activated through Origin.
However you do not need origin to play the game, only to activate it. hope thats more clear.
Yes, and it and every other combat encounter I played was just as fundamentally broken. But okay let me just buy this game on the assumption that it is the opposite of everything I played in the demo because that makes sense.
So anyway. I've tried a few different builds now, and I'm actually finding that I like things I was pretty sure I would not. I still find the Great swords/Chakrums to be my favorite weapon types, but my last play through I tried out a rougish character and was really surprised by how much I enjoyed the daggers. The charge move for them worked pretty well against the Kobold who are some of the smartest enemies i've encountered in the game. The bow i'm not so sure about just yet, there are some abilities in the bow line like Arrow storm, and Multishot that make it seem like it could be worth while. I just wish there was an manual target system for the bow.
I also picked up a scepter, which I thought I would like the least but turns out it's pretty cool too. It still the weapon I think i'd want to use the least, that or maybe the regular long swords, but I could see it being useful in some situations or builds. I also like how enemies react when being hit with a weapon that has an elemental propertiy that they are weak against, gives it an extra bit of impact, and the boggart creatures scream when on fire.
Want to try out the fae blades, but have not come across any yet, they look pretty sweet though from what i've seen in videos and what not. Anyone have a favorite weapon combo from your time with the demo?
