well, the interesting thing is by that yard stick then the Nintendo 3DS is -much- more guilty - especially if we include upcoming games as well.
Not that it's a problem for Nintendo because that's the big plus for the system and seems to be the driver. It's just weird that whilst it's a Nintendo strength, it's perceived as a Sony weakness.
Hell , the Big Three Nintendo games in Japan : Mario Kart 7 , Mario Land 3D (genuinely new/fresh), Monster Hunter 3G (hyper expanded/improved port)
fair points, but kind've an anomaly - nintendo exists on the strength of its first party stuff, for the most part.
myself, i acknowledge the great strength of the DS' library, but ironically, very little of that actually came from nintendo: i personally didn't care for their mario, zelda, metroid etc offerings on that system at all, and even successful stuff like brain age didn't move me. what did, however, was stuff i wasnt expecting at all: TWEWY, phoenix wright series, and more visual novel stuff like 999, hotel dusk and the like - stuff i didnt even think i wanted, you know?
i realize this is anecdotal, so the thread's point: i don't think the Vita's gonna explode via UC, or even Monster Hunter, to the extent sony might want. they're gonna help, no doubt, but i keep thinking a great avenue is the way they hedged their bets with android development - using your nintendo comparison, it creates a net vastly larger for capturing the next big minecraft or the like, from the ground floor.
Android stuff? You mean you get 249$ handheld to enjoy simple games that you can also play on your phone? Vita needs games like Gravity Daze, it's incredible how good that game is. Sony should just market the shit out of this game together with: "COME AT ME BRO".
i'm not gonna act like im privy to the details of the SDK kits, but i don't think developing android software for vita = for phones exactly, given inputs and the like. i think it's a much-needed effort to foster a middleware scene the likes of which non-PC gaming hasn't really seen since XBLA tried and then kinda forgot about it.
I hope you're right about Gravity Daze, i know it gets love here - not gonna speak on it till i play it though natch.
being able to play Black ops 2 on vita ONLINE with PS3 users would make me buy it for Vita.
didn't a mod just say this couldnt work on wifi, or did i misread that?
either way, maybe it's a huge untapped market, but again, i just dont see that as a great avenue for a handheld. then again, i clearly treat my DS as a visual novel reader of sorts, so my finger's clearly not on the pulse.
