Rayman Origins PC - March 29 - Retail copy no DRM, Steam copy no 3rd party DRM

That's weird, after trying without success to download the demo for a hour, I read Steam forum and I noticed the demo was already in my library (and I never installed it)...
Except it wasn't, as when I tried to run it, it started the actual download...

Now I have the tough decision between a higher resolution/bigger screen/DRM riddled/cheaper PC version or the OLED/portable/more expensive Vita port.

Decisions...

No, the short one with the eels or whatever chasing you.

In the final game, that's a boss stage. The bits with the eels chasing you is simply the lead up to the boss. There's a few stages where you need to run away from things, but as far as swimming from eels is concerned, that's your lot.

If you're unsure on the underwater levels, take a look at this. It's spoilers though I guess, but one of my favourite stages in the game. It appears quite later on, which explains the high difficulty.

Will not buy the game (on PC) due to bullshit DRM.

It says in the thread title the retail version is DRM free...

Ummm...slight stutters every 2-3 seconds. Drops to 57 fps momentarily. If I can't fix this...yeah, not going with the PC version.

Probably it won't be the case, but it would be cool if the 3DS demo released tomorrow on the eShop, seeing that the Steam demo released today and the full 3DS game releases 9 days before the PC one. I want to see how it looks in 3D.

I'm running at 2560x1440 and it's locked at 60fps, I would hazard to guess that you have a better rig than me. Did you by any chance alt-tab once the game was running, cause the same happened to me when I did?

For some reason the PC demo is on my Steam list, even though I never installed it. Can't seem to uninstall it either.

First time playing the game. The art is amazing, really great stuff, music is also cool. Gives me a Loco Roco vibe. Gameplay is pretty solid as well.
I'll definitely pick this up when it goes on sale.

Strange, I had no such problems.

Anyone else not able to download the demo on steam?

GTFO of my Steam library fucking stupid Rayman demo that I have no interest in downloading because I won't buy it if it's loaded with stupid DRM. Why are you appearing in my Steam library. Argh.

I'm trying to get the demo too, it appeared in my library but when I tried to install it I was given that file conversion dialogue. I restarted steam, and now it's gone entirely and the links don't work. Anyone able to help?

I just spent a few minutes running back and forth and I can't reproduce this at all, even after alt-tabbing away. Which isn't to say that I don't believe you! I just want to clarify that the game at least has the potential to work properly. ie. it's not fundamentally broken

Intel i7 2600k
Geforce GTX570, latest WHQL drivers

Is it a very noticeable drop though? I'm not sure how a temporary drop from 60 FPS to 57 would be apparent without FRAPS or something.

Game looks beautiful.

Don't know if I should get this on PC or vita :(

...um how about "Yes" as the answer to that predicament? :p (buy it on one now, if you haven't played it already, and the other when it's cheap later, because you know it will be eventually). I'd say PC, just for the ease of finding someone to play with if you ever feel so inclined.

As someone who owns the Vita version, this game is an absolute blast to play and extremely beautiful. Enjoy.

Wow DRM or no I think I'm gonna grab this, the demo was fantastic.

The soundtrack though... ear rape. It sounds like the chipmunks singing 50's commercial jingles. So. Bad.

This game is bugged on steam, i had the same issue with the game yesterday being in my steam library, when i tried to DL the demo, now it's completely uninstall WTF...

So... is the DRM 100% confirmed?
Ubi said as much a few weeks ago but the Steam profile still doesn't list any DRM. No official word on that.

In case someone that matters is reading, there is absolutely no reason to add 3rd party DRM to a Steam release. Not when the retail release already has no DRM, anyway. Remember, Steam itself is a form of DRM (by default) and you can't log into the same account from two different computers at the same time.

Can't download the demo :/ not a surprise since nothing on steam ever works for me, is there a fix for this?

Ordered on Steam, the Rayman 2 version is quite peculiar, as it's nowhere near the standards GOG has set on the old game releases.

The same thing happened to me. The demo was just on the "common" subfolder and it worked just fine, by the way.

P.S. the game looks gorgeous and it runs perfectly, by the way.

This is definitely one of those games that actually doesn't make the best impression from its demo. Once you really dig into the full game and start to come to grips with the nuances of its controls, however, it becomes an absolute joy to play. It's a very fast paced platformer that rewards momentum.

Also, the map screen is deceiving as the game is really twice as long as it first appears to be (with every level being unique). I was quite thrilled when I managed to obtain the first five teeth only to find that the game still had five more worlds to go!

Game looks beautiful.

I actually think it works best on the Vita due to the ability to pick up and play at will. It's a great game for both short and lengthy sessions. Plus, it looks absolutely stunning on the OLED screen which delivers faster response and deeper blacks than any PC LCD you might be using. :p

The soundtrack though... ear rape. It sounds like the chipmunks singing 50's commercial jingles. So. Bad.
There's actually a lot of great tunes in the game, but yeah, I've never been too fond of the high pitched singing either.

Well, Ubisoft could still put DRM in the last second. Didn't they add DRM to From Dust when they said it just had an one-time activation?

Didn't know about this, but seems Ancel wanted to deliver the UbiART framework as open source. And it says this on the Steam page:

A Handful of Highly Talented Artists and Engineers: Rayman Origins was developed by the UBIart team in Montpellier and is built on an open-source game engine - the UBIart Framework - designed by Michel Ancel to allow much smaller teams of artists and developers to produce incredibly high-quality graphics and gameplay quickly and efficiently. This garage-game approach has led to great strides in creativity and innovation.

Maybe they are still planning it? Probably just a mistake, but there is a small possibility.

Oh man that could be amazing. Please, please, make it open-source.
