I expect to see black miis with afros and black clothes, gathering around the next CoD icon in the OS UI, posting "Game is closed"

My point is Apple can add networks using the same hooks. It's agnostic.

Exactly.

In the sense that software can be modularized and they can release a patch. I mean if iOS 6 drops support for some devices they are likely stuck with it.

Ive gotta give it to Nintendo. The inclusion of NFC was a last minute clutch move. They saw how SKYLANDERS was making bank and they 1up them with NFC. They gonna sell POKEMON figures by the truck load.

Well you're right on the last part, but NFC was announced like centuries ago (of course after skylanders, though)

The Wii U showing today was pretty excellent. Really digging the the Wii U's UI system and the fact that they made a legit pro/classic gaming controller. Wii U gamepad is going to be great for just picking up and surfing the web, tv, communications when relaxing at home.

The graphics may not scream next gen when compared to PS3/XB360, but whole package including form and function really does.

Seems pretty neat, loved the Pro Controller. They better put it in the box or this will be annoying.

But having curtains that unveil a web browser will only end in disaster. SURPRISE! TUBGIRL! (oh it's even in the OP! haha nice)

Presentation was horrible but everything they actually showed looked fantastic. Looking forward to picking up a WiiU. Cannot believe I typed that.

If the fanfare sound happens whenever those curtains open, that will never not be funny though. I'd have drinking games based on who can unveil the grossest shit on the browser.

Doubt it. Remember when everyone thought the "Revolution" would launch in black (the first color they showed)?

Yes. But I doubt the Wii U will explode like the Wii (not a bad thing), and black is the second color they showed the Wii U in. And besides, the 3DS has shown a great rainbow of color choices, so it could be in the Wii U's future as well.

I guess this is another universually apreciable thing, enjoyed by families and 4chan users alike.

This guy better be in Smash Bros Wii U.

I don't think I've ever felt like vomiting in response to a press event before.

Thought bubbles interrupting my games? Uh, yeah, fuck you thanks. :)

I actually really like the online, there's a lot more to explore regarding what Nintendo Network will do, and seeing how it ACTUALLY works in a real world environment, but it's pretty exciting. I mean - essentially, in a way, Nintendo has declared war on existing Social Networks by creating their own, instead of using pre-existing solutions like Twitter or Facebook. I assume the reason for this is to keep the social discussions relevant to the platform, whereas Twitter and Facebook tend to be very general. So your not spamming your non-gaming friends and family with your gaming progress. Also means the anti-facebook crowd don't have to worry about nonsense like Facebook connect.

Now I think more about it, the more genius it seems. as it allows for deeper integration on Nintendo's terms and means you don't have to worry about being unfriended/followed elsewhere. I guess Home and Xbox do similar things, but it doesn't seem as accessible to enter messages on those systems (it's also very one-on-one)

Do honestly hope the online experience matches in ease too, no friend codes and a more open community, that means I'm not just restricted to my friends list will be awesome. The local Mii gatherings sound like Vita's "Near service, but more interesting and certainly less useless. I also feel like Nintendo are making Miiverse more noticeable by making it part of the home screen. Whereas Sony stuck Near in an app, which means a large majority of users will NEVER bother checking it.

Now all I need is games, the OS looks great Nintendo, but I know it's games that make the system. Though from the way Iwata talks, he knows it's what everyone is waiting for.

The fact that games you don't even own can show up right on your main system menu is one thing, but the fact that there can be a ton of Miis crowding around it which all represent real people and real discussions, that's like the next level of genius marketing. Now I know why they want to go for digital download options for nearly all retails games, I'll bet my left nut there will be a "buy now" button immediately when you click the icon of that game.

Conceptually and even visually it resembles that EA in a Nutshell video.

This wasn't such a bad idea after all, given how relaying this information on Tuesday would've dragged down the conference itself. If they pull off game after game during the conference they'll keep a great flow throughout.

That said, by Nintendo's own admittance these announcements (while neat) weren't particularly "amazing". Amusing seeing the kneejerk "OMG MEGATON" and "JUST WON E3" reactions out of the stream.

am afraid Nintendo will hold off the black WiiU for when sales are slow or for special Editions like they always do. History shows they tease different colors at launch and never release that way. I understand the move because they have to create an identifiable look at launch so as to not confuse people. yeah i know but they feel people are that stupid. Also it helps to only manufacture one color at launch to have enough launch units.

That welcome screen and those pop up messages looks like a spoiler paradise. I hope you can turn all that shit off while playing.

They showed black a full year before white with the Wii.

With the Wii U they showed black a full year after they showed white. With less than a year before launch.

It's looking better than it was before.

Yupp, it's pretty genius. The nice way of saying: "hey looser, all of your friends are playing this! What are you waiting for? It's hot and hip now. Get it like RIGHT NAOW!....SUCKER!"

I hate the idea of having to own several different types of controllers for one console. They had the right idea with the TV Control button because we like the idea of controlling everything from one simple place but then we have to juggle around all this plastic. Meh.

So Iwata said you can see messages from people in your country or those who speak your "language." Because of his accent it's kinda ambiguous if that should've been plural - anyone else thing MiiVerse will support bilingual people/households?

What was this Zombie game that was in the video?:

I'd realised about the Queen's Guard, but not the police officers behind. It's a curiously British affair. Is the final boss Liz, drunk on Jubilee power?

This confuses me; throughout the skit I thought the zombie game didn't exist; it was just a mockup as a proof of concept. Having seen it beyond random flashes, though... that's awfully, well, quirky to be a plausible mockup, much more distinctive than I'd expect for 'generic zombie game'.

See it in another way: it's sales-age material right in your home screen! We'll have endless theories about how much each game sold based on the number of miis babbling under their icons.
True, true. Although, not as expansive as Nintendo Channel data of course! I hope they'll integrate that in for the Wii U this time around (and 3DS).

It's like the Steam friends list, except you're not limited to friends.
