as many others have said in the course of this thread, this is 100% real. They changed it soon after, but I saw it along with many others.

You might want to google 'Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale Smash Bros tag' or something like that to find an article on it

That the Sony Smasher plays differently, doesn't make it not a rip-off. The important part for Sony is that it looks like Smash and possibly will attract people, who like Smash or would love to play Smash on a PlayStation. They easily could have find a different look for the game to set it apart, but they made sure that it looks similar. Many people believe it plays in the same way and how could anyone blame them. If something looks like a car, sounds like a car and is promoted like a car, why should people not believe it to be a car? Even if it is a boat.

Is this movie not a rip-off just by having an different story, characters and setting?

I will still buy it, because i love Smash Brothers and pretty much fit into the target-group.

He is absolutely correct, Sony ripped off Nintendo, nothing new though since Sony always does that on a technical level now they do it on a software level as well with Sony Smash Bros.

Oh and i would love P-100 characters in The news Smash bros, P-100 alone has more memorable characters then any Sony character and it is a new IP.

A game being a rip-off isn't a bad thing. Hell, from what I can tell it improves on smash buy having 3 levels of super and different modes. I'm looking forward to it.

And this here is the real key people should care about. Is it borrowing heavily from Smash Bros? Sure, but if it adds high quality online play and other game play innovations that makes Nintendo have to raise the bar again that is good for everyone involved.

Every game today borrows from a previous game in some way. Look at Kamiya's own output. He made DMC but then aped large parts of it with Bayonetta, including elements unique to DMC3 which he wasn't involved in. But Bayonetta added a ton to the formula.

Or Okami, which obviously borrows heavily from Zelda. He added enough good shit on top of it to make it stand out.

Vanquish plays pretty much like a Japanese attempt at Gears of War, and its WAY BETTER than Gears. I only wish it would have sold better so Epic would have realized that a 3rd person cover shooter works best with more dynamic traversal methods.

Its nothing new, this is how the industry improves. You make game X, someone else takes a ton of inspiration from it for game Y but one ups you with new features and more polish. You come back with either sequel to game X or new IP with game Z and one up the other guy. Any game left to its own without a challenger will stagnate. This is what happened to Street Fighter when the rest of the 2D fighters died or moved to 3D back in the 32 bit era.

Not really. He has a point.

visiting a top-class creator's intentions based on warped console warrior perspective isn't a formula for any point worth hearing, really. the last line does the rest of it a disservice.

Do you really think that is remotely the same?

1. Came out in '91, had no follow up.

2. Doesn't play remotely like Hot Shots Golf.

3. Mario Golf on N64 plays incredibly similar to Hot Shots Golf on PS1.

4. Which it should, as Nintendo hired Camelot from Sony after a couple successful HSG games and immediately had them make Mario Golf. So they literally hired the original developer to ape the game with Nintendo mascot characters thrown on top of it.

But KOF was around back then as the historical rival series, and SF didn't stagnate, the III series was a significant evolution but it was shunned at the time because of it (in addition of not being 3D games as you said).

Sure, you can spin it like that ;)

Nintendo payed the actual developer of a popular game series to do what they can do best, gave them a great selling franchise (because they could not use there old one) and build up a good connection between them. This has nothing to do with the situation right now. Are you trying to say, that the developer rip-off them self?

How is it a rip-off when it's the original developers that made the game? Geez people can really be dense. And ripping-of a Golf game? It's like Call of Duty ripping-of WWII.

lol, what does that have to do with anything?

Well, if he would be really going as far as trashing Sony to suck up Nintendo, I would expect him to at least buy one and tweet how great it is. It makes no sense for someone to burn bridges and miss out on future business opportunities but at the same time not be willing to parade the latest product of its new patron.

I love how people accept unquestioningly - and even seem to support to an extent but definitely rejoice in - the idea that simply stating your private opinion on a game should mean you "miss out on future business opportunities". And the word "patron" and so on. Especially when talking about fucking *Kamiya*. (Where's the "free association" myth now?) Really, errr, "well-disciplined" thinking there. The way quite a lot of (I guess mostly young) people take corporate power for granted and even seem to approve of it is a bit scary.

Nintendo needs Sony. They are bringing something new to a niche genre that will only promote further creativity and competitive improvement.

To all those saying that Kamiya is sucking up to Nintendo, you should check his log. Earlier someone pointed out that he doesn't even own a 3DS, not to mention this tweet from 2 days ago:

@JoeyVirgo1 Played project p at wii u experience.I'm addicted.i'll buy ths game day1.Thnk u 4 supporting Ninten
HK: I'm supporting game fans.

Does he need to own a 3DS to be sucking up to Nintendo (which I don't believe he is doing, he is just speaking is mind.)?

Saying "I'm supporting game fans." confirms that he is into developing games without choosing sides (Nintendo or Sony). That whole idea of "if you are for Nintendo you are against Sony" and vice versa only lives in the heads of some people posting here and those ridiculous tweets fired at Kamiya.

That's right folks, the next Smash Brothers will be more hyped because Sony ripped it off.

Kamiya should be thanking Sony. Smash is getting more advertisement from this and it will be more hyped as it has been set as a direct competitor to this game.

Whether Smash will actually be able to compete with PSASBR is another question entirely.

It probably will be more hyped. Just like Tomb Raider would be huge if it was a 360 exclusive, or FFXIII would have been bigger if it was PS3 exclusive. The fanboy stuff has a big effect on hype. There's a very real (and very silly) competition that exists, and I think this thread is evidence of that.

Now that SSB is not the only real franchise of its type and there's a 'competitor' on another system, there's going to be more hype focused on it. It will have more of a reason to be better, too.

Plus, there's going to be at least one person who hasn't owned a Nintendo console in 10 years and then they play PS All-Stars and remember how awesome SSB was too.
