It's so damn confusing with all these versions, is this the 25min extra version?! I want it in 3D at least.
Its safe to say that anyone who was interested in Prometheus, wanted a movie with a decent story, and good characters to continue the Alien universe. Characters that simply reacted to each others plot points would have been great. I've never seen an entire theater say "no, you can't be that dumb?" for 2 hours minus david's intro. Sci Fi movies all have their low cliche parts. Prometheus was full of them, literally back to back, with such stupid writing that I couldn't even unplug my brain enough to enjoy it, after realizing that its just stupid, that there was no script, and its just to sell the art book.
Lets not put Ridley scott in that arena either, the de-brain arena of Michael Bay. A lot of people try to make the excuse that "duurrr I knew it was gunna be dum!" Based on what? Even Alien had characters react to others mishaps, same with Aliens. Same with Alien 3.. hell I'll even throw in the entire-alien franchise had better writing than Prometheus. Not just "Welp, onto the next plot point. We are running out of time!"
Ugh, I need a drink to calm my nerves. The only thing that is more irritating than this movie, is people that pretend it wasn't the criticisms, and not just 1 or 2, but an entire movie full of valid criticisms. Some movies have a couple, this movie had a man try and touch an alien snake like it was a dog (after being terrified of ANYTHING living on an alien planet..), the guy that maps the building gets lost(yet knows their coordinates..?) Breathing alien air, with unknown ALIEN anything in the atmosphere, straight line running, no reaction to alien life being removed fro.. fuck it.. just fuck it.

This is where you are wrong because from a sci-fi film the thing I want the most is a believable, fantastical and intriguing world that sets up just enough answers to feel coherent and yet leaves many things unanswered. I don't give a rats ass about most characters in even the most praised sci-fi films. I loved Prometheus because it offered everything I wanted and left out all the excess fat from the characters and their relationships, which to me are almost always filler in sci-fi.
Prometheus had the most interesting creatures and mysteries of all sci-fi cinema since god knows when. A few thin characterizations and loose ends don't change that.
If I want cheesy coming of age/love stories, I crack out Disney movies.
The movie you keep writing about is the movie that everybody wanted. I'm glad at least you saw that movie.

The vistas, creatures, horrible mutations/abortions/breaking of bones, a grand theme of space exploration and awesome were all there. Mysteries, believable and menacing humanoids with cool biotech with testicle user interfaces. A flute that operates a ship. An android, that encompasses all nerd fantasies about how they should be presented...
Too bad you were sleeping through it.
Remember the Avengers versus Prometheus thread? That was fun.
I wasn't even being facetious in my last post. I'm genuinely happy that you got to see the movie I was hoping for. I didn't make this thread to hate on the movie. I even went back for a second viewing just in case it was hype on my part. There were hints at the movie I wanted, but it just wasn't there for me.

I saw it too.
It's all good, I can't wait for the bluray and whether the movie withstands a second viewing.
If you can stand 720p, iTunes will have it on sale next week.

They aren't doing 1080p for the new ATV?
Going to ask again: With regards tois this the movie where see the inception of the creature?Xenomorph

How some people missed these things is beyond me.No. There was concrete proof that chests were indeed burst long before the crew went into the building AND the freakin mural of the xenomorph...
I can't seem to remember. Damn it. I guess I have to re watch the movie.
There was a mural to the alien in the cave, and the dead space jockeys all had exit-wound chests
And I'm one of them. I don't deny that Prometheus has fundamental flaws, but for me they almost disappear against the film's remarkable strengths. I noticed a fair number of discrepancies and off-notes in my initial viewing, but none of them pulled me out of the experience. Prometheus is an engaging film that mostly satisfied (and in some aspects exceeded) my personal expectations. I was not disappointed, and I've now grown rather bored of hearing that, if not in so many words, every sensible person should have been.I think you have your dumb scientists confused. Millburn (the biologist) wasn't terrified of anything living on the planet, that was Fifield. Milburn was actually interested in the dead engineers and was examining them. Fifield (coordinates guy, geologist) was the one terrified of anything, and asked Milburn to leave together.
Guy was scared, probably made a mistake and got lost. It's his first time mapping an alien structure. I can cut him some slack.
I'm not saying these aren't valid criticisms, but you can look at most grand sci-fi movies and find just as many fallacies, if not more.
I enjoyed the movie a lot. Not because I forgave the plot points you mentioned, but because what there was to like (beautiful photography, great set pieces, some great performances), outweighed all that. I'm sorry you couldn't get past what I perceived as minor quibbles in the scheme of things and enjoy the ride, but many people did.
Just saw the movie. Big fan of Alien and Aliens, also fan of Ridley Scott, been on a media blackout before and haven't read any of the reactions online.
Fairly shocked that the reception seems pretty negative from many people in here, although I do agree with some of the criticisms (particularly the lack of reactions and and reflection upon events - I feel a director's cut running 10-15 minutes longer to give the characters some space to breathe, grow and react in the story would be ideal.)
That said, I think it's still a pretty great science fiction movie, the first 50 minutes or so are pure hair-raising atmosphere, brilliant stuff. Mentions of John Carter and Avatar in here are either trollbait or just outright stupidity on display, a universe apart.
Yeah, maybe. Feelings about the movie are certainly not set in stone, especially before I've seen any of the behind the scene extra stuff on Blu-Ray. I think it's important to record or at least remember your initial reflection on a piece of media, helps to put things into perspective later.LOL give it a day. You'll experience the same 'Hang on a second!' moment that everybody else did upon reflection. Movie is dumb as bricks.
I know, its crazy how much better both of those movies are compared to Prometheus.Mentions of John Carter and Avatar in here are either trollbait or just outright stupidity on display, they're universes apart.
edit: wait a second, aren't you that Avatar superfan? Why would I ever listen to your opinion about any movie.
100% agreed, and I actually don't like the very last scene for that reason. I think the allusions and references throughout the movie were clear enough. Felt unnecessary. This is where you are wrong because from a sci-fi film the thing I want the most is a believable, fantastical and intriguing world that sets up just enough answers to feel coherent and yet leaves many things unanswered. I saw it about a week ago. I absolutely loved the first half but then as soon as those two scientist are in that cave, it all goes downhill. It's really a shame because the movie has great directing, but that script man.
There was a script?
I thought they were just winging it
http://www.fangoria.com/index.php/h...clusive-prometheus-discs-are-going-to-be-epicIm intensely proud of the PROMETHEUS disc, Lauzirika tells Fango. Its probably one of the most, if not the most, comprehensive discs Ive ever done. Im shocked that we were able to achieve the depth and scope of what we were able to do in the time that we had, which was fraction of what we had on a catalog title like, say, BLADE RUNNER, which goes on for years and years and years. PROMETHEUS we had a few months to get out, but its epic.
While he cant go into specifics just yet, Lauzirika suggests that there will be some pretty extensive documentary features, the result of a good deal of time spent on PROMETHEUS sets and locations. I was out there for several weeks, he says. Id go for like two weeks at a time, and I would shoot interviews and behind-the-scenes footage. I shot all of preproduction, which was about a year, and I also shot postproduction. Most of the camerawork is mine on that, but I also had another camera operator, Vanessa White, in the UK who shot when I wasnt there, so we had the whole thing covered, soup to nuts. I didnt get to go to Iceland [where some of PROMETHEUS most remarkable moments were lensed] for that shoot, but Vanessa covered that, and we have amazing footage of Iceland as well.
I enjoyed "Prometheus"; I thought it was great. I thought it was Ridley returning to science fiction with gusto, with great tactical performance, beautiful photography, great native 3D. There might have been a few things that I would have done differently, but thats not the point, you could say that about any movie.
Cameron seemed to like it.
