Halo |OT12| Last One Out, Get the Lights

As someone who likes radar I feel id be fine with this compromise

+1

Making the radar noise-based and adding the silenced SMG could make for some pretty awesome stealth builds in Halo 5.
And other noises, such as grenades going off could also light up the radar - maybe have the Hologram make some noise?

I LOVE MY RADAR, jerk.

I've never had that big of a problem with radar, and I enjoy no-radar stuff too. Then Infinity Slayer happened. So dumb. AAs and perks and such plus radar for slayer can lead to some really frustrating matches (even if you win). My biggest issue often is that they use the radar to justify the existence of stuff like Camo and PV in slayer games. Both promote the opposite of movement. Personal ordnance drops for the kills resulting from these tactics doesn't help.

On the other hand, I actually have no problem with radar in objective games. There is an expectation that teams will contest/retrieve/defend objectives (griefing aside), so player tactics and movement aren't as dominated by the other factors I listed. I have more fun with the objective playlists than any slayer variants in H4 (including Slayer Pro, sadly. Just doesn't vibe with me because the spawn system for slayer is so borked), and they all have radar.

Welp, I'm done for the night.

Jump into Dominion and get a match someone quits immediately, we end up sitting in black screen for 15 minutes while 3 other people quit. I get kicked back to finding a game. Join a game already in progress, the score screen shows it just started but one side has all three bases. Loading starts to take a while then someone quits. Finally starts to load the game. "Game Over"

Slayer Pro competitively is a lot of fun. No radar really adds to the experience. Addition by subtraction right?

Other things that can be worked on;
The introduction of Specializations is very awkward. Today I encountered my first 'stealth mod' opponent. Didn't show up on PV, Entirely ruined the moment when he happened to still be around the corner that I thought he had retreated from.
You cannot remove stealth from a game and then grant it only to those who are high enough level to unlock it. After playing so long without stealth, it gives the opponent so much of an advantage... especially when having a boltshot or any other sort of power weapon.

Personal Ordinance in general needs tweaking. There should never be the possibility of the following;
A. One team being granted better power weapons than the other team. Playing BTBIS last night, myself and a team mate were given the option for Needler/Shotgun/OS 4 times total. The enemy team had Rockets, Snipers, etc.

I hope you guys aren't reading this in a crying-14 year old voice. Just throwing out some ideas.

I think we're just experiencing the tip of the iceberg into how potentially game breaking the Specializations are going to be. It will get to the point that almost 100% of all encounters are a roll the dice moment. Run out there to sacrifice yourself all in the hopes of plasma pistolling a spawn camping Wraith? Too bad it will take two charges cause they're using Operator!

Personal ordnance needs to be balanced for each team. It could be the following (if this is possible to script/forge).

1st personal ordnance = Saw, Needler, Overshield
2nd personal ordnance = Shotgun, Beam Rifle / Sniper, Damage Boost

They could do that differently for each map or gametype. So in IS you would always get the same choices as your first, second, and third personal ordnance. BTB would have a different more "big team" set. Etc. The way it stands now is so unfair it's laughable. You might get a needler on Ragnrarok while I get a binary rifle. Good luck.

So I hear on the Grape vine that Halo 4 Chief model has 115,090 polys. People seem to be acting like that is alot.

Maybe someone with modelling experience could explain a bit more?

I haven't had that problem. Mine usually updates within a few hours (not that I constantly check. Normally just look at my stats at the end of the day and notice... so it could be sooner).

Tried changing stuff in the main menu instead of a multiplayer lobby?

...

I was about to give kudos to whoever linked the Crimson map pack video from Youtube in the weekly bulletin, but when I went back to watch it today I noticed that they replaced it with their built-in player... I really don't understand that. Is there a way to change the quality from "auto"? It can get rather terrible. I'd rather wait 30 seconds for something to buffer and be in 720p then to watch the pixelated mess that usually comes from the Silverlight player.

I suppose I always do it in the MP lobby. I'll change stuff tonight in the main menu to see if it effects anything.

I can't be the only one though. :(

Maybe they were testing double XP playlists last night...

It'd be kind of neat of instead of Double XP Weekends, they just gave everyone a number of DEXP matches on say Friday and then you could spend them however you wanted to. Like a "Create Your Own DEXP Playlist" thing.

I don't know how well this is known on this forum at least, but did anyone else find this?

It's on the second level, in the area where chief finds out he is on requiem.

It triggers some extra dialogue between the chief and cortana.

Are there any more?

SPARTAN OPS ALL DAY

Seriously.

Dexp for regular MM game = 1 spops game

Dexp for Spops game = WHOA NELLY!

Yeah I did find that on my second playthrough, same one. I assumed there were more but I'm not much of an explorer.

I remember finding it I think. Chief says something like "What is it?" iirc

I just hate that after I die I don't necessarily get to know what I was killed by, e.g. which gun, which player and what their customization options were.

Mmm. I didn't come across this in three playthroughs. Interesting.

-- That's a ton of polys for a character, but you only see the Chief model in the cutscenes where they can carefully budget the scenes. It's not really the polys that matter, it's the materials and the lighting costs that kill performance. Most modern games have millions of polys being rendered (some faces 'cost' more because of shaders and lighting).

-- And we know the polycount of the chief because there are some initial results from a Halo 4 content extractor.

I like it. You know they'd try to motivate you to play some of the lower populated playlists though. Reach proved that shit works like a charm, EVERY time.

Throw double XP in regicide and that shit will soar.

Its triggers a back and forth in which cortana translate that its talking about the mantel. 6 or so lines.

Start at Rally point bravo on requiem and just run to the right of the centre structure ground floor and take enter the tunnel for those interested

They're already doing something like that, making Regicide the ONLY FFA option :p

What gametype do you play for splatters? I find it one of the hardest kill types to get with any consistency. 1/2 of the time I feel like the enemy just bounces off.

Also, I assume you're using ghosts?

Ghost/Banshee
Most success on Complex during CTF, to be honest.

I found that on my first playthrough, and was a bit disappointed there weren't more. Would've been a nice method of delivering small bits of story to reward exploring.

Also the circular text reminded me of those things in Arkham Asylum that are pretty much the same thing.

They should add the option to have a radar that only makes people show up when they're shooting. Of course having no radar at all is the best but I feel like this would be a nice compromise.

I suggested this before release and was pounced on! I would love if the radar was like CoD, HELL, I'd take silencers as weapon unlocks. Down with radar!

It did, but over the long term the playlist population settles and DEXP won't keep people interested in it. There was a lengthy post back on Optimatch (still miss that forum) by Shishka where Bungie was no longer going to attempt to salvage playlists with DEXP since their attempt to save Ranked Big Team with it only delayed the inevitable.

DEXP lists - fun, but it could be months before your favorite list comes back. Doesn't really peel people off Slayer, mostly cannibalizes other lists

Super Jackpots - also fun and a cool idea, and prevents excessive boosting, but some people got frustrated if they played a lot and didn't get the jackpot to show up.

The "you get a bank of DEXP games" method could be a compromise between both - you choose what's DEXP, you know when you're getting it, but 343 can throttle the amount to prevent a playlist from being poopsocked.

Or, in theory.. you could add a dimension to it and set certain playlists that give you a DEXP token per completed game

edit: wut spoiler tag out of nowhere

I think DEXP would have a greater effect with Halo 4, since you're unlocking perks instead of just armor.

That is, until everyone is at SR130.

I like the idea of rotating playlists out on a weekly basis, but I think one week is too short for them to establish enough of a following. I'd keep them on rotations of two weeks on, one week off. That way the playlist is "new" every three weeks, which should allow some time to tweak settings and add new maps.

Week 1: Oddball and KoTH
Week 2: KoTH and Extraction
Week 3: Extraction and Oddball

Basically, always have 2 of the 3, with each playlist lasting 2 weeks. Do the same for Grifball, Team Snipers, and... Team Regicide, I guess.

Gui's back! How have you been?

HaloGaf as a majority hates Halo 4 or dislikes it in multiple ways. There are still a few of us here that like the game a good bit though.

Being honest, little has changed since the weekend after release when we met.
I haven't played it in over a week now though..

Lurking this thread has been more enjoyable than actually playing H4 post the first couple days.

rip halo, that forge post will probably be the last bit of effort I end up putting into the franchise going forward.

Played a bunch of Slayer Pro. Fun was had. Finished Engineer and started Rogue. Have yet to use the armor mod I have yet but I will definitely be doing so tonight.

I'll just repost this that I wrote today in the OT:

For me I've played so many FPS and TPS shooters since the start of this generation that it's easy to find faults with so many of them, and the majority I bail on after a month's time. The exceptions? Metal Gear Online, Gears of War 1, and Call of Duty 4. These games, with definite faults of their own, still held my interest day in day out for months at a time to keep having fun with them.

Too often when I put in a shooter this gen I start to get pissed off and bitch into my headset or in my mind if I'm playing alone. So for me to find a game where I'm just having fun and can laugh with friends the whole time I play, is a REAL treat. Even my buddies noticed..."hey you aren't complaining about anything when we play this...wtf?" Well yeah wtf is there that's really destroying the flow of the game for me? There's no armor lock bull crap or real inconsistencies with bloom like in Reach. Plus, the map selection here takes a giant shit on what Reach had pre map packs.

The game of course will get, and needs to get, a few updates in its time line, but even if 343 said, "We aren't changing shit except adding more maps," then I'd still be A okay with it. Why? Because as I sit here at work day in day out, all I keep thinking about is wanting to be home to get in a little more time with the game.

I've dabbled with all the modes, and I have fun in the majority of them. CTF and SWAT are my two favorites at the moment. That bad ass feeling when your team has to play defense the whole game because the other guys are really good at pushing your flag, only for you to find that brief moment in time to slip away while your 3 play D, and you get to the flag, melee 3 guys with it, shoot another, and make it back to cap it with red flashing health...fuck that feels soooooo good! Or in SWAT when the other team is 5 kills away to win, and you guys are down 10, and all of the sudden you turn on God Mode and get an over kill, into a triple kill to bring your team back...fuck yes!

If you can't find moments of fun in the game, then it isn't for you. I get abilities, perks, and guns need tweaking/balancing, but to start up a stink storm to say the game is unbalanced on the levels of like MW2 where you can rain death and drop a nuke on people to win, compared to some guy getting a needler to drop down after he got 3 kills, is a ridiculous notion. It's 2 free kills at best.

<3 this game.

Since playing with friends on Monday, I have played ~10 minutes of Campaign and now I am installing Far Cry 3.

I'm over it

QUOTE=bobs99 ...;44923886]If I don't think of it - or play it like its a halo game its actually pretty fun.[/QUOTE]

Mixed opinions, I see. It does sound more bad than good though =\

I've been good Cyclone, thanks for asking.
Got a part time job at HMV to pay the bills while I look for something better in London. I actually worked there for the Wii U midnight launch. Smelled like nerd but it was fun.

How have all y'all been?

Edit: Does anyone from London HaloGAF have an old, crappy 360 they're not using?

Edit 2: How 'bout some meet ups?

Well, I gotta admit, I'm having a lot of fun with Blops 2. Gonna get on Halo this weekend though after I get some time in this game though. Hopefully the BS factor will have subsided in IS.

I am actually really excited for Team Regicide, I think it has a lot of potential.

I'm interested in trying it out. Seems to be a lot more balanced and competitive than FFA Regicide, as the king will always have an opposite king to kill for extra points.

I imagine there will be some neat strategies around using your team's king as bait and pushing for kills when he gets a powerup.

Which CoDs are your favorites?

edit: Also, will Team Regicide have friendly fire? If not, I'm just gonna keep sticking my king with a sticky det and having him rush the enemy team.

In the prologue you can find a Terminal telling a quick recap of Halo games and gives you a cheevo.
You can find Halsey's Diary and JulDama Beacon on the first mission.
In Reclaimer you can find an organic traces on the sentinels part.
In Composer you get different dialogues if you saved or killed the security guards protecting the scientists, if you go to talk with them they will unlock a door with weapons.
In Composer if you arent fast enough and let the grunts kills all the marines you can see them celebrating on the first floor.

I like Promethean vision a lot. It's good for finding people to fight, or figuring out how to approach a person or group of people, but once you actually engage them, it's of no use any more. I'm also a bit surprised that I've never felt cheated when someone kills me who uses PV, in fact I usually can't even tell. Most of the time when I see the pulse on my radar it just gets me to make a beeline looking for the person who used it.
