Justified - Season 3 - Timothy Olyphant & Walton Goggins - Tuesdays on FX

Which reminds me that the best part of S3 was Raylan dropping the bullet on Quarles and saying "the next one's coming faster".
I think you mean Duffy, right?
Agreed. Personally I'm hoping for it to end with the sixth season; Boyd becomes the main villain for awhile only to sacrifice himself to save Raylan's life during the last episode. Also Boyd reveals himself to be Raylan's real father.
Heh.

edit: Haha, i can't believe I got beat at the bad joke. lol

Duffy's eyebrows are neither bad nor a joke. They are serious fucking business.

Insult them at your own peril.

I included Wynn "Win" Duffy's Eyebrows in my Top 10 2012 TV show list. They're that important.

FX is re-airing episodes 3.5-3.7 early tomorrow morning. That's "Thick as Mud", "When the Guns Come Out", and "The Man Behind the Curtain."

- Recent interview with Goggins is mostly about Django, but there's a quick tidbit on the upcoming season of Justified at the end:
Q: Are you back to work on the season four of Justified?

Goggins: I'm back and shooting episode seven right now.

Q: What can fans expect from Boyd this season? Will he be causing more headaches for Raylan (Olyphant) this year?

Goggins: Boyd starts off
like the king of the hill for all intensive purposes and has a little higher climb before he falls precipitously. It's a really good season where (the show’s creator) Graham (Yost) has made the decision not to have a season long nemesis for both Boyd and Raylan, but has gone back to the friendship of Boyd and Raylan and how they're interacting within their own world. It's kind of back to the roots and I'm really excited about it.

Q: Finally, most actors are lucky if they can play one beloved TV character in a career, but now you have done it back to back, first with Shane on The Shield, and now with Boyd on Justified. After The Shield ended, did you ever think you would be lucky enough to find another role like that in your career?

Goggins: Listen, I still put on Shane's leather jacket from time to time and walk around the house when nobody's home. I would imagine when Justified ends … when no one's looking I'll take my buttons on my shirt and do them all the way to the top (like Boyd). These characters mean a great deal to me and I'm so fortunate that I'm getting a chance to play two characters like this back to back.

I started putting together the S4 thread. I'll probably get that up sometime in the next week. We're only 15 days away from the premiere. :D

And Season 3 hits blu-ray in a week.

debating if i want to go ahead and watch S1/S2 again on blu-ray this week or just wait till S3 comes out and watch all 3 seasons the weekend before S4 premieres.

Hey guys, remember when Ava used to date Raylan?

What's with people over in the TV Cancellation thread bagging on the 2nd half of last season?

Because Red Neck Rat Race wasn't very interesting TV, it took Raylan out of the immediate fray, and Quarles wasn't a very compelling "big bad" as much as he was a cartoony villain.

Nah, I thought Quarles had a menace to him. There were a number of times he could have just chopped somebody up, but didn't. Maybe I just find bad guys showing restraint to be interesting.

And if McDonough and Duffy were there until the end...no, just...how could that suck?

I felt the opposite. I loved Quarles, he was fun to watch.

On the other hand, I thought Limehouse was a boring try-hard.

I watched season 1 when it came out and absolutely loved it. For some reason I'm only getting around to starting season 2 now. I don't know why I waited so long. This show is bloody brilliant.

My bad - I mixed up Quarles and Limehouse. Quarles was a pill-popping, sadistic fuck, and he was fun to watch - particularly for treating Duffy for the worm he is.

Limehouse had the restrained menace and kind of put Raylan in his place a bit; something like, 'This may be your home, Marshall, but it ain't your house.' Damn, that was good. I should write for the show...

My problem with Quarles is that he's the perfect Sons villain. Cartoonish, pulpy, off-the-rails. But Justified is a much more sophisticated show than Sons, even though they both share the same hypermasculine shell.

Doing a "big bad" after your last season had someone who won an Emmy and will go on to be an iconic character in TV history is not going to end well. I like the idea of a carpetbagger. I like Neal a lot. But Quarles was too much for this show.

Dude, I respect your insiderness, for sure, but you're over thinking this. I loved the carpetbagger angle, and the fact that he was basically the C team made him that much more interesting. He was Big Bad, but pathetically so in the end...

Just my opinion on the season, not over thinking my own opinions on a show. I thought the ending was thoroughly mediocre, and Quarles added to that by being thoroughly uninteresting.

The biggest sin of season 3 was taking Raylan out of the main fray. Raylan had so few chips in the game besides a dislike for Boyd. It was not Raylan's story, and Raylan is THE linchpin for the series. Putting this intetests as the B-story is unwise and the show suffered for it.

Also. Ava. Ava used to date Raylan. And now is the madam hartlet of Harlan County. What? That will never not be stupid. Ava is like the Winston of Justified.
