So have people figured out that Zwei is Wolfenstein?

I haven't read the whole thread, so I don't know if others pointed it out, but I mean, it's pretty obvious. Zwei = German for 2. Plus, why would Bethesda release two horror themed games in the same year? All signs point to Mikami working on a new Wolfenstein.

I could be wrong, but I'd be surprised.

EDIT: Hmm, do we KNOW that wolfenstein is using idTech 5? Or that Zwei is UE3? I haven't been following this as closely as others. It just seems to me that zwei would just be wolfenstein.

Do we know enough about both games to definitively rule it out? I haven't been following it as closely as others.
It's highly unlikely if you ask me. Wolfenstein was always a first person shooter. I just can't see Mikami going that road.

Also the released concept art looks nothing like Wolfenstein ... and Wolfenstein was never about survival horror.

As I said in other ZWEI threads, I'm willing to give this a shot just because Mikami and a couple of his other ex-Production Studio 4 pals are working on this.

Quality gunplay will have me hooked. I just hope I won't be stuck with dumb AI partners.

Unless MachineGames and Tango around working on the same game across two different engines, it's definitely not the same project.

That or they have two Wolfenstein games in development, which would be kind of odd.

Ok, so we definitely know that there are two teams here using two different engines. Makes sense, I retract my prediction.

Although it makes SO much sense.

No, it does make a lot of sense from all the Vine clips and stuff, but I don't think it's going to happen. Would be cool though.

is he even the director for this or just a creative producer/Supervisor?

The latter.

To clear out any doubt:

And co-op has not been confirmed officially, it was determined from job listings that the game would have some sort of multiplayer component. Given the genre, it's assumed it's co-op, but there has never been an official statement. so wait & see (a.k.a take rumors/speculation with a grain of salt).

Mikami + horror + coop is perfect in my books. If they can pull off co-op horror, it would be my dream game. Nothing is more fun than getting scared with someone.
Horror does not work well with others. Watch The Exorcist alone and with someone else. It's just not the same.

Mikami, the stage is yours and the world is watching, show us you can deliver once again.

Jill's face always bothered me on this boxart. She should have a more scared look on her face.

There is just no way that Mikami is working on a Wolfenstein game. That would be like Platinum making Doom or something. It wouldn't make much sense and it wouldn't be his return to survival horror.

Oh god, now I actually want Platinum to make a Doom game. I can't even imagine what a Platinum developed, classically styled FPS would look like.

I hope Mikami hasn't lost his touch. Don't understand why he's worshiping Gears of War, but I'll trust him. Vanquish was excellent. Best TPS I've ever played.

X360/PS3 release confirmed

I'm glad it's not XB3 exclusive, like many on Gaf predicted/hoped. Now I just hope it'll actually be a proper horror game, with emphasis on horror instead of action. EDIT: Knowing Mikami, that's probably too much to ask.

She's already director on this game. He's like executive producer and/or executive director.

According to News Bot he was never RE's creative force anyway. He was mainly a producer.

http://projectumbrella.net/forum/Shinji-Mikamis-Role-BioHazard

1) He takes credit for things he never did
2) He tends to outright lie
3) He had little creative input in BH1 (almost every concept came from his boss, Tokuro Fujiwara, and the game's planners such as Iwao, Katoh, Kamiya and so on). In its remake, most of the new additions and designs came from the new planners such as Hiroshi Shibata. The final version of BH4 takes more from Shibata's version than anything else, as it was that team who thought of the new aiming system, not Mikami
4) After initially not wanting a story, he thought of two "plots", one of which was a Megaman rip-off. Then the actual writer came in, knowing his stories sucked for horror
5) He caused quite a few of the original BH1 team to quit
6) He never had any direct creative involvement in any games aside from BH1, its remake and BH4 and his actual contributions to those are few and sketchy
7) His ideas suck. Flat-out. He is the one who wanted Dewey (Eddie Murphy caricature) and Gelzer (giant robo-man) in BH1, among others
8 ) He is responsible for the series' misdirection, though at the same time that decision saved the series so he gets props for that
Those are just a handful of examples. There are plenty more and it extends beyond this series too. Even for God Hand and Vanquish, he is praised. However, once again, he didn't actually handle them. He supervised them, while the actual planning, design and writing was done by Hiroki Katoh. He is typically seen as some sort of one-man-army demigod of gaming, and he is anything but. He is overrated at the best of times and owes every last bit of his success to his planners. Without them, he and the series' he was part of would be garbage.

Also the main weapon of comedic black guy "Dewey" according to Mikami... was a slingshot. A fucking sling-shot.
STANDARD ISSUE AMONG U.S. POLICE AND MILITARY FORCES

In the TSBB interview (translation) he refers to him as an "Eddie Murphy" type character. That was an eye-opener for me regarding his understanding of the genre he wanted to follow in Sweet Home. This is a very interesting thread, as many, like myself were unaware of the scale of Mikami's undeserved reputation

So... the main contribution from Mikami on RE4 was the plot?
As far as we can tell so far, yeah. Of course, his involvement as director includes an overall supervisory role and includes the fact that he is responsible for approving/disapproving stuff so in effect he is responsible for ensuring the quality of a product, but there are no examples of things he has disapproved of actually being bad. All the bad ideas seem to come from him and are then superseded by his team, according to the examples we know of. His teams likely would have done fine without him and Kamiya, Katoh, Iwao etc have all shown that they are brilliant creators in their own rights.

"He wasn't around between BH1 and BH4, except for the remake. And he was barely involved with the creative process of BH1 and came up with the worst ideas. Are those the only three games in the series you like?"

Already acknowledged this. A "producer" can take on many roles, but in this case Mikami openly admitted he had nothing to do with development. He balanced the budget. Like a Robert Evans of video games.

Mikami also had little to do with Dino Crisis, his role was the same as with BIO1 but he was both director and producer. Apart from maybe saying "make it like BIO" there's no evidence of him having much involvement. The story was written by Shu Takumi, one of the event directors and main planners (dialogue was rewritten by Yasuhisa Kawamura). People will know him well as the creator of Ace Attorney and he became director of Dino Crisis 2 at his own request.

At this point a suped-up version on one or both new consoles is possible for any third-party AAA title announced for PS3/360. Especially if there's a PC version. At that point you could port directly without making cuts.

Somehow I'm not surprised at all, if this is true.

I don't personally care if it comes on XB3 as a next-gen exclusive, because I can play it on PS3 as well. That is, if it's going to be any good. I'm not really holding my hopes up with anything where Mikami is involved. His only games I've loved were RE1+2, and it's been ages since those days.

Interested to see if there's any additional platforms announced tomorrow. As much as I love Mikami's stuff it's hard for me personally to get excited for current gen games, especially one without a PC version.

It's a Bethesda game. There'll be a PC version.

even though i'm a really big mikami fan i still think silent hill 1-3 > resident evil 1-3

they're both great though. i wish resident evil remakes (and silent hill series) got decent pc ports and availability.

Maybe ask JP about Mikami? Especially on those points on Vanquish and God Hand, since he actually worked with the team and pitched in ideas and wrote for Vanquish.

Not sure if it's a good idea to stitch together a bunch of small info and call someone a "fraud" unless you have directly worked with the team.

Yeah I was hoping we could get some input from him.

No need to call him fraud based on that, but if true, it's a shitty situation for others. For example, how many times have you seen doom predicted for a game, when someone else continues in Mikami's place?

He never really took credits on being 'the dude that did all the work' though as far as I know, it's just us hyping it :p

Making games have always been teamwork and even JP seem to have helped pitching in ideas and concepts on god hand.

Ultimately he's the producer for some of the games so he would have to be making all the management decisions and getting the right people on the job.

It's fucking News Bot, he was posting nutty shit in the RE6 thread about how RE4 had a terrible english localization even though the japanese version was also in english.

And as far as I can remember from old interviews, he never really tried to dispel the notion either.

Yeah, it's teamwork, but some people in the industry are portrayed like they're mostly responsible of how the games turned out. I guess media and fans in every entertainment area want to grab on to someone, who personifies the brand in some way.

News Bot is likely too harsh for someone who has an incredible track record doing what he does. Ultimately, he should be viewed as a face for a posse of talented individuals, some of who are exactly that and follow him through projects. On the other hand, it does highlight how silly fanboys can get with some of their comments, especially when they may be pitting Mikami's efforts against those who are just as responsible for Mikami's previous successes.

Eh. That News Bot guy sounds like your typical forum poster who thinks he's the biggest expert of a particular topic despite not having any real knowledge about what's going on in the inside apart of ... what he read in interviews and the conclusions he jumped to in his mind?

He's likely the more informed on the topic than anyone else. In a contest of what is most likely, the evangelicalism aimed at Mikami (or any sole person) is hardly a reality compared to games being made by many talented individuals whom couldn't do it without each other. Of course, that doesn't exactly fit with how people want to celebrate others, especially when it comes to "auteurs" (or those who desperately want to be seen as such).
