How so? They establish the trading cards thing throughout, then when Fury is trying to convince the team to assemble and avenge Coulson (using the bloody trading cards), it's made clear that he didn't have them on him and Fury manufactured an emotionally manipulative stunt. That's the entire scope of their implication. Anything beyond that is a retcon. It's not a big deal that they brought him back, and doesn't hurt the show in any way. But it's still a retcon. There isn't any need to deny it.

We see Coulson die on screen, and his death isn't faked. They brought him back because they needed someone Avengersy to headline the show and they obviously weren't going to get any of the main cast who are big movie stars. If there's truly some compelling evidence I'm unaware of, then I'd be happy to recognize it. I just don't know why they didn't say "we used some Marvel Cinematic Universe™ technology/magic to resurrect him." It's cheating death either way.

But again, it doesn't hurt my opinion of the show. It'll be judged on its own merits.

This is comic's were talking about here. They can come up with any number of reasons he's still alive. Clone, some tech keeping him alive, anything (Coulson from an alternate dimension).

Well yeah, TV shows generally don't have the ginormous budget that blockbuster movies have, of course the CGI is gonna be lackluster.
I still don't see how this makes the trailer look bad. I mean, it's got flipping Dr. Strange in it.

They can. The Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, and X-Men license agreements only cover films. They can use any characters from those properties they want on television (provided it isn't feature length).

That being said, I doubt they will. This show is still taking place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and they will probably want to keep it consistent. This way it also allows them to more easily crossover between this show (and other future TV series if this does well) and the films.

Even without mutants there are many many heroes and villains they can pull from that most people probably have never heard of. Street level heroes and villains, especially ones with basic powers that won't require a lot of effects work, are probably the most likely.

so, if Marvel want it, they can make a 2 hour tv special of X-men or Spiderman "episode" where it's basically like a movie? or get X-men mini series on HBO?

Think they'd be full after Joss fed 'em his crow meat sammich.

No, feature length is at about 40 minutes.
I'm not entirely sure who's holding the TV show rights for the characters currently, but Spider-Man and Wolverine did pop up in the Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon, which... might be entirely different legally than a live action show.

I love you.

My take- as I said earlier in the thread- Didn't Anthony Stark Sr. had shards of the Tesseract (or something similar?). They could just say they used that to resurrect/heal Coulson (or some such bullshit).

I didn't like the direction, cinematography or lighting. It looks cheap and the dialogue doesn't help.

No thanks.

I really wish there was a Nolan-produced Gotham PD show starting at the same time as this. I'd love to see a second round of the Batman/Avengers fandom wars.

Looks good will watch. Is Gunn supposed to be anybody or just a random superhero. I hope they use actual Marvel characters and not just random superhero #35

HBO miniseries yes, 2 hour TV special no (that would be a tv movie). As long as it is under a hour it should be allowable but I am not sure of the exact duration specifics outlined in the contract.

Looks like a show that will last one season.

A full season pickup of 22 episodes and a season 2 is practically garunteed if the show premieres to even a bit of success (which it will) due to Disney owning both Marvel and ABC. Even with low ratings, if they want to keep it going for the MCU they will. So yeah, like it or not, this show will almost certainly get at least two seasons.

I find it pretty ridiculous that anyone can "tell the quality" based off of a 2 minute trailer of a single 40 minute episode out of 22.

He is playing a pre-existing Marvel character. They are not yet saying which one. Some people speculated Luke Cage, but Rage now seems the more likely choice. We know he will be a regular. They are going to use this show to introduce many other pre-existing Marvel characters, so expect most of the heroes and villains that show up to be from the pages of Marvel comics. Most of the main cast was created just for this show so that Joss and/or the other writers could do whatever they wanted with them and not have fans feel like the characters were getting trampled on. Other pre-existing SHIELD agents like Jasper Sitwell and Maria Hill will appear in the show, played by the actors who have already played them in the films.

A direct adaptation of Gotham Central is so goddamn workable. It's right there! Script, characters, camera angles, the whole goddamn thing is right there for the taking...

He really should change his name to Charles Gunn...because that's all I know him as. With that said.

GUNN!!!! Dude needs more exposure, definitely an awesome TV actor yo.

Someone email WB. They've got a hit on their hands.

The cherry on top would be that it takes place in the Nolanverse somehow.

As someone who loved the Avengers, I thought this looked like garbage. Too many 'cute' situations with people who can't pull off that kind of dialogue. Feels like yet another Alias-type show with nothing to set it apart except for a one guy who can fall out of a high building without breaking his legs. Not sure why it doesn't reflect the more serious tone of SHIELD from the Avengers movie. I'm guessing though bad writers.

Accidentally posted this sick Whedon hater compilation in the actual Avengers v. TDKR necro-thread itself.

There is already a thread for this. And TDKR will crush Avengers. Domestically, worldwide and in quality.

Joss Whedon sucks.

TKDR is going to blow everything apart around it.

Yeah, this. Firefly wasn't even good.

Joss Whedon is a terrible director and hack writer. The Dark Knight will beat it with ease.

Joss Whedon sucks.

loooooooooooooooooooool

Not even worth a discussion.

Avengers will be a great film and makes a ridiculous amount of money but there is no contest here. TDKR is going to be the biggest grossing film in years, possibly of all time

Avengers is not going to make more than Iron Man 2.

DKR is going to dance all over Avengers.

Not even close, DKR might win by >$500 million ww. Marvel's movies aren't even on the same level as Batman.

This isn't even close TDKR has a chance of reaching 1.5 billion or more. Avengers won't get past 500 mil imo.

Avengers will probably sell a lot fewer tickets but not be totally crushed in box office due to 3D surcharges.

The Avengers will do 600/700 million tops, Dark Knight Rises will make 1.1/1.2b.

I'm not sure if it will topple TDK or not.

On one hand, Batman brand is stronger than ever now and this is being marketed as the final film in Nolan's trilogy.

On the other hand, Joker was iconic. A lot moreso than Bane is (and will be) And believe it or not but Heath Ledger's death did give it the added publicity and seats.

Either way it's DEFINITELY taking down Avengers.

The difference between Nolan and Whedon is that Nolan is talented, it's pretty simple.

TDKR will stomp the Avengers in WW BO.

Super hero movies gross this summer will be like this

TDKR
Spiderman

Avengers. Avengers will be lucky if it makes 600 million.

This will not even be close.
Not in NA and not worldwide.
Batman will single-handedly wreck the Avengers.

Someone on Earth thinks Avengers will do better than Rises?

I love waking up to stupid threads like this. Nothing like a good laugh in the morning.

TDKR will hammer The Avengers.

Yeah Avengers will be pretty big but I don't see it hitting a billion. Domestic is where these superhero flicks make big bank and Dark Shadows (a Tim Burton joint with Johnny Depp) is coming out a week later too.

Reposting because I still can't believe it:

I'm surprised that there are so many people who didn't like Joss Whedon on GAF.

SHOULD'VE HAD FAITH.

To be fair to the crow eaters, there was no reason to believe Avengers would be as good as it was. Joss only theatrical production raked in 25 million.

There were several reasons to believe Avengers was going to be great. It's just that none of those reasons happened to be Batman.
