Insomniac/Ted Price talk about Sunset Ovedrive, helmed by Resistance leads

I love Insomniac, their games are usually a breath of fresh air amongst a bunch of me too games. I wish them the best with their new IP but I think they will find partnering with Microsoft / Xbox One will net them less sales than they may have anticipated. Guess we will see.

How is this "hunting the CoD crowd"? It has nothing in common with CoD besides the fact that you shoot guns (and even the weapons are way different).
Some people just want to bash no matter what.
I thought the trailer looked very cool, only question is if the gameplay will come close to it

I'd like for them to place more focus on the level design and traversal mechanics then crazy weapons for this.

The trailer reminds me of Jak and Daxter with the way the character moves, a next gen version of The Precursor Legacy would be awesome.

This game looks really cool. The trailer really made me want to play the game. To me, this was the most interesting game at the Microsoft conference. But, I'm a big Insomniac fan. So, that probably has a lot to do with it.

People have been saying they are a subpar dev since around the time Resistance 2 came out. Them making a game for Xbone has nothing to do with it.

They'll go back to being awesome when they start making good games again, if they ever actually do.

And yet Resistance 3 is the only game in the series worth playing and IMO their best game by far.

After the developments of today, Insomniac's reasoning makes little sense now.

I got the impression they were talking about what the dedicated server support offers them, not the always online requirement. The former remains and is a big part of the One's advantages in terms of how many Microsoft seem to have.

To be honest such "understanding" does make little sense. A game that is built around online will still require an itnernet connection. I am baffled why this is so ahrd to understand? It's not like MS cancelled all the cloud/azure/server stuff...

This was never the reason for the internet requirement to begin with.

What exactly makes it good, specifically campaign and multiplayer competitive. What makes it better than the first game?

I have seen several people claim that it's better yet I don't believe I've ever seen someone elaborate.

Multiple players is a terrible CoD clone. The single player was ugly but a great change of pace from regen games. It also did a better job of capturing the desperation. eg. Capelli is emaciated. Human weapons are a rarity while salvaged/makeshift alien tech is common.

Two very important things which make Resistance 3 better for me - the enemies are more fun to fight against in single player and more importantly, the weapons and the feedback from the weapons is fantastic. I never enjoyed the first or second games combat because the weapons felt like shit to me and incredibly weedy. In Resistance 3 everything feels much more improved, the weapon sounds are especially MUCH better and shooting the enemies/getting into combat is much more satisfying as well. The shotgun is especially godly.

Also, apart from that I really liked the atmosphere which I felt was nonexistent in the first two games, thought the story was incredibly entertaining and in many ways it riffs off Half Life 2. I quite liked Capelli and liked the more personal story in Resistance 3 as well. You could tell they learned a lot in Resistance 3 and that's why I really like Resistance 3 much more than the first two.

Multiplayer wise I preferred Resistance 3 as well, but then that's more because I like the games core combat so would naturally get more enjoyment out of it anyway. I put some hours into and had a good time. I never liked the first two games multilplayer and hated R2's coop (though I utterly despise R2 in general anyway)

I'm not trying to tell anyone they are wrong for liking whichever Resistance game or arguing about it, just simply stating why I really like R3 and don't ike the first two much.

Ummm There is Absolutely nothing stopping Them from using "Cloud" servers on PS4 or even PS3 for that matter.

It was a buncha PR BS that was fed to us.

Also if you are talking about quantity, Amazon EC2 last YEAR had half a million servers spread around the world, probably more by now.

It's not . FoM is the only good game in the series.

People are going to be disappointed when the actual gameplay looks nothing like that trailer.
It's probably going to be another FPS anyway and with Titanfall already doing jetpacks and wall running, this game might be redundant other than its artstyle.

I am talking about quantity and not mystical mumbo jumbo. Dedicated servers/magic are very important things. I doubt Sony has access to nearly as many. Amazon may have half a million servers spread around the world, but how many do Sony have access to?

Microsoft have 300K just for their own personal use. Or at least this was how I took it.

Umm sony doesn't need to have any, People don't need to use their platform holder's Cloud.
And Microsoft's Cloud is not some Xbox One ONLY service. I repeat its not just for "Personal use" Anyone can start a server on Azure.

It is used in exactly the same way as Amazon's only Amazon's is more robust

Sunset Overdrive looks to me like it has at least some of what a lot of people were wanting from Overstrike. That seems like a good thing.

Dedicated Servers do a lot of good, they aren't "needed" but you can't say they aren't an advantage(for anyone using them). And I'm not sure why you keep trying to push amazon onto me. When did I say their servers were inferior or anything of the sort?

How do we know it was a 'betraylton'? Maybe Sony didn't like their new game? Nor E.A after Fuse?

Sony propably want's to own the IP and yeah the game is too "fresh" for EA I guess.
Ted Price said in that interview that they got support for their creative vision from MS.

I think this sounds plausible. Maybe the game just doesn't fit Sony's portfolio. They do already have one over-the-top open world action game coming in Q1 after all.

Anyway, I love the trailer. Excited to see more of it.

Ted is streaming soon right? At 1pm PST. There is some relief now that the Xbox One's drm situation is taken care of, Insomniac has a good chance now. I hope Ted is doing ok, he's the nicest person in gaming and I want him to be as stress free as possible. The last time I saw him other than E3 xbox conference was that Fuse live stream, and he seemed exhausted.

You're claiming Xbox has an advantage because of the cloud.
I'm saying Anyone on any platform can leverage the cloud.

From my understanding devs can use MS cloud servers for anything they want, it's just there to use. Why would you rent amazon servers if you can just use MS one's if you make an Xbox game?

Similarly any Dev can use any cloud service for anything they want. They are also just there to use.

As of right now the only thing we know is that there are OS level hooks to access the Cloud.
So right now they only thing we can assume is that its a little bit easier to implement.

Your claim was that Xbox has an advantage because Devs have access to MORE cloud servers. This is incorrect.

Your first two paragraphs make sense yeah, that's what I mean.
I never said anything about more servers though...

Has there been an official mention that this is a FPS? Cause I'm really hoping it's third person.

The game is third person.

-There is a full single-player story / campaign
-There's also a multiplayer component
-It's a traversal driven third-person open world action game with crazy weapons
-I actually thought the reaction was pretty positive to the game itself?

I said Microsoft has more of their own servers to use as of now when compared to Sony. Microsoft has 300 thousand servers recently acquired for the primarily purpose of the Xbox One networking functions, where you mentioned Amazon(the largest online distribution company in the world) only had 500 thousand as of last year. Even if Amazon has many more by this point(which I'm sure they do), why and how would Sony automatically have access to them? They could buy a suite of servers but would they actually do so? The functionality is there, I never denied this or implied only MS could, but Microsoft seems to be taking dedicated servers much more seriously and making them a part of the ecosystem for all titles. Sony has merely mentioned that the functionality is there. Such things remain to be seen though.
