Eh. I guess the Lightning stuff could be kinda cool. It's not the worst thing ever. Whatever.

I really hope we get other companions besides the chocobo.

Would be keen to see something like a Tonberry as a battle companion, but that's pretty unlikely as much as I'd like it. Believe the other one confirmed was the Magtiek Walker with changeable parts akin to the Chocobo's barding and such. Still, looking forward to whatever they add later down the road.

Since it was near the end of the last page.

If you are a tank do you get experience for any monster attacking you that a ally kills?

All party members get experience, kill credit and a roll on item drops, as if you did the killing yourself. Otherwise it'd be a nightmare to get credit as a healer.

Oh wow, that's neat.

What I really want is another PC model as your companion though. Kinda like Adventuring Fellows in FFXI.

I want my foul-mouthed miquote companion from 1.x back to go with on lewd adventures, who cares about chocobos :(

Did anyone else get a random extra beta code in their email? I got another "Welcome to FFXIV Beta" email today and it has the same 12 character PSN code as my last one, but a different product registration code this time.

Weird.

I got it too. Since we need both codes I guess it's pointless to give away the different one?

Clearly this happened WAY after I quit, because it probably would have kept me playing longer. :x

1.0 had companions?

Not in the same way as ARR. 1.0 had a NPC character that would accompany you in some main quests and had an important presence. Depending of your choices you would get one type of character, one of them was a lovable lewd miquote.

The main story in 1.x teamed you up with an NPC of your choice that was present with you in most story events. It wasn't quite like a Fellow in XI because they'd only be around during missions, but my companion was easily the most entertaining thing about the main story lol.

And I'm talking about the main story that was in the game like from launch, not the 1.18+ stuff where the Grand Company storylines and Dalamud became the center of attention.

it's weird, the first 4 characters of the product registration code is the same as the one I originally had. all 16 other are different.

Just whacky.

Maybe they just re-sent to the people that were having problems and sent to us by mistake.

Anyway, I have a beta registration code at the end of this post. Quote me to see it.

I don't know if it's PS3 exclusive and if you need another code to download the PC version. I think it's NA? *confused*

Guys, don't worry. It isn't just a Lightning clone... It's the REAL Lightning! Please be excited. :p
Sometimes I wonder if they're just messing with us on purpose.

I vaguely remember something like this now that I've heard the details. Launch FFXIV just made me so mad I think I blocked out everything in it that I actually did. I know I somehow got Pug to level 26 before I decided I was finished.

Oh well.

Holy crap this game is good. I got to level 9 but I'm going to stop to keep it fresh for when the game comes out. This was a nice surprise.

What bonuses are you talking about? You get rested experience globally, and bonus attribute points while levelling up on every class.

This thing about a bonus for second classes (or more) is something new.

No I meant those attribute point bonuses you get for leveling a guy every, some odd levels. I figured that, given their scarcity, and the fact that the stat bonus isn't global, that they'd appear when you leveled up additional classes.

Sounds like that may not be the case.

Yes, I've noticed quite a few of those. Quite a few overt anime fans in the Beta so far. I'm hopeful that some of these will disappear by the time the retail release rolls around. Some of these guys just HAVE to be dirt poor highschool/college age peeps, with no money for a sub.

I mean, statistically speaking, at least a few have to be that way.

Or, barring that, some will get tired of those names, and pick something else for the retail release.

Douchey bias against and stereotyping of anime fans is always hilarious. For the record, I am an anime fan, I have an anime name which I am going to carry over into launch, and I work a full time job and make more than plenty enough money to afford a sub. Deal with it.

You'd better get used to the anime fans, this is aJP game franchise and plenty of real JP players play it. If this is too much for you to bear, might I suggest a quality Murrican MMO like WoW.

The SAO names make me facepalm too.

My own character name isn't anime or from pop culture or anything of the sort, but it's not exactly a name that people would use in the land of Eorzea or in real life for that matter. Usernames don't bother me so long as they aren't XxS0pH14xX or some similarly asinine crap.

There's a lack of dot Hack name references in this game :c

Hmm....

So apparently SE put a halt on CE preorders?

LS mate just told me on VOIP that he tried to preorder at Gamestop and they said they were told to stop taking preorders for CE yesterday. Looks like Amazon has listed it as unavailable, too, and a search on Bestbuy's website only turns up regular... Good thing I got mine in on the 1st.

Speaking of which, there's a lot of brusk dialogue in this game. Thal's balls!

The strength of the writing is ever-present, but the Thaumaturge storyline is even better. Are all guild stories this triumphant?

I thought the THM story was the best of the Guild quests I saw. I didn't do all the Guild quests to 15 in the beta though.

I love how everyone in Limsa Lominsa speaks pirate though. Talking to NPCs there has never failed to entertain me.

I don't see the point of making fun of people over their names if your own doesn't fit.

So, RE: Black dye. I knew I saw it under the shades of grey dyes, but I'm back on right now checking and that black square actually wasn't a dye but the "no dye" square. I feel so trolled. Even 1.x had black dye... weird that they seemingly took it out?

Leveled up a CNJ up to 6 just for kicks since I'll be healing and my wife will be tanking when the game is live, just can't wait for phase 4. Game is addicting and I'm ready! HURRY UP!

I'll have you know that the apostrophe in D'arc is essential to my surname!
No seriously, it is.

I remember doing some FATEs and a manor run with one of the GAF members here. Just wanted to say thanks for the fun and being a good tank, and sorry if I'm a bad THM. I'm still trying to get the handle on how to do my job and targeting on the controller is really... finicky to say the least.

I have a strange request. Can someone rip the sound file for the private message noise? I really want to make it a text tone.

Hate to ask but does anyone have an extra PS3 code?
have a family member who is also a huge FF fan that wants to get into this with me.
He signed up but didn't get a code.

Regarding the "Victory" ship battle in Moraby Docks in La Noscea for the Marauder:

As a tank you need to draw the ennemy attention by generating more enmity then you'r allies, you generate enmity. by doing dommage, but also by having specific skill ( usually with 'Increased enmity" in it's description ). I don't know marauder well but if http://www.ffxivinfo.com/class/marauder.php is up to date with the ARR skills then you will want to use Skull Sunder ( in combo with Heavy Swing ) and also Overpower.
You can probably also take skills from other classes you level, which could help you generating that enmity, like Flash from gladiator. ( don't know if that skill is a good advise since you need mp, again I don't know marauder very well )

I must beg for assistance as this battle is simply unwinnable. I went and leveled myself to the maximum that this battle will allow (17). I acquired another enmity-increasing skill that I hadn't had before (Tomahawk). And I used exclusively enmity-increasing attacks (Skull Sunder, Tomahawk, and Overpower) until my TP ran out, and still the enemy went after C'Nangho, and while she laster longer than she did before I knew about enmity, she still fell, and it was DUTY FAILED. And the boss still had about 40% of his HP left.

I didn't attack the Mamool'ja recruits that were behind the boss; my allies advised me to leave them alone. I then had another go at it and went in after them, using Overpower's area of effect to hit more than one at a time, but that only hastened C'Nangho's fall.

Is it possible to recruit other people to join you in this quest?

This kind of bottleneck really is ridiculous. The real version will have a manual that will explain things like enmity and tanking, and the fact that you can't give healing items to allies, but as it is a newcomer to the game has no shot at winning.

So I'm tossing away my pride here: someone just tell me how to win it. I can't make any further progress in the game until I do; this is the only active story mission.

Taking out archers first (without getting hate), then whoever else, then focus fire the captain. That's how it went I'm pretty sure.

I'm on but not in the middle of anything so I'll go see if I can beat this quest and offer some tips.

You have to solo these quests, can't do them with other players.

Thanks, guys. These kinds of bottleneck battles really take the fun out of things. I'm such a newbie to MMOs and their workings that I didn't even know that enmity/aggro can be managed ally-by-ally. If FF12 had this mechanic, I somehow managed to finish the game three times without ever noticing!

I don't remember doing anything too special for it but

1. Two guys spawn to the right of the ship that target you and can be taken out pretty easily.
2. Two guys attack the healer and you have to pull them off of her with an Overpower or two and then take them out and they're pretty easy but
3. The boss attacks you before the fourth minion is dead. His charge move "Overpower" attacks in front of him so aim it away from the healer (stand on the opposite side of her while fighting the boss). You'll need to run out of range to not take damage--but don't run past the healer and risk her getting hit by it--and then back into range of the healer.

Oops, looks like I have already done all the MRD quests in beta already afterall... I thought I did it in phase 2.

What's the exact name of the quest you're on?

Is anyone else getting a problem where the screen goes black and an error pops up saying "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"? This happens roughly every 10-15 minutes of play and its annoying the hell out of me. FF14 is the only game that does this to me, so its not my hardware.
