14 minutes of open world Watch Dogs gameplay [hacking, combat, driving]

Watch_Dogs has gone from being something that looked really interesting in the initial reveal vertical slice demo to looking like a sort of amalgamation of design aspects and mechanics from a number of Ubisoft games. I'm seeing Assassin's Creed, Far Cry 3 and Splinter Cell: Blacklist specifically.

I have this game pre-ordered but I'm extremely worried about the draw distance. Has anyone seen a more recent build that was definitely played on a PS4 (devkit)? Was it any better than this? Man... the draw distance during the driving session looked like a complete dealbreaker...

This is just a thought I had.
What if The Division goes through the same process as Watch_Dogs have done?

Both are published by Ubisoft
Both were announced with a very staged (but awesome looking) probably more than 2years before release
Both are open world

:/ I want game companies to stop showing their game too early in development.

The design of the main character is very uninspiring and a bit on the goofy side. It also looks a bit like GTA now. I was hoping the city would be a bit more futuristic.

I agree with other comments here.....there is a noticeable visual downgrade to what was initially shown at E3 2012

I have no idea why people are complaining about this game, graphics are great, gameplay is fluid and seems fun. it also has a new idea of hacking and controlling the whole city.

I just don't understand some complains, do you want it to be GTA rip off? Do you want it to be linear? Do you want it to be what exactly?

Try the game upon release or even after a price drop then judge it. I notice this habit of shitting on all upcoming games for no basis at all, some people want to change the design, some people want games to imitate each other, others start complaining just to complain.

if you don't like the game don't buy it, I've seen nothing game breaking in Watch Dogs that deserve this backlash at all. I understand Ryse MP complains and yet some people complained about SP for no reason. DC suffered the same for no reason at all. Forza, KI, Knack and Killzone all got their fair share of complains for no reason.

I understand if you voice you opinion based on a fundamental flaw in the game, I also understand trying to correct some bugs here and there, I understand asking for the addition of some features - if possible- . what I hate is asking the designers to change their game design and vision just to suit your personal needs, I hate also compalining about why not doing this instead of that...bla...bla.

You need to realize that game development involve 2+ years of hard work, it's not just like ordering a pizza online, you need to respect those people who try their best for you to enjoy this game and yet, this thread and 100 other threads are shitting on those upcoming games for no apparent reason at all.

TRY THE GAME THEN JUDGE or HATE or WHATEVER.

OT: I can't wait to play this on my Playstation 4.

Agreed. It just makes things worse when you over promise and under deliver. I don't wanna see the guy having amazing animations and taking the time to close the door to the police car only for the doors to never be open because they couldn't really do that or they do but it's janky. Bringing up The Division, I really want that to be good. Looked so beautiful and possibly fun.

This game I'm still unsure of. I need to see more. Like others have said, it looks a lot like AC in modern times. I think it all comes down to how many things you can hack and how fun it is to do so.

excellent video, excellent game. Good thing i pre ordered. I like the police scanning system so far.

I like the hacking system, but i am worried i will fail at it lol

The gameplay trailer looks good and all, but I'm still worried. I feel like so much of it was scripted like in that old Bioshock Infinite "gameplay" trailer.

Personally, I think the game looks great. I like the hacker / cyber criminal theme. And open-world games. I only skimmed this video since I don't follow games I am interested in too closely (I don't want to see too much).

Pre-ordered for PlayStation 4.

man..this thread show how some gaffers are so elitist,so exquisite about graphics that i wished they work on the gaming industry making engines or assets to enjoy their work, must be incredible to be that exigent

the reveal for this game was so good and it really looked like something different but the more we see the less interesting it gets, eeeeeh

I'm still excited about this game, but they aren't showing off their game in the best light, but I guess it's good that they're keeping some of the surprises hidden away.

They probably are showing it in the best possible light.

BTW am I the only annoyed by the narrator constantly using buzzwords and catchphrases?

And when Crytek comes up with their usual graphics showcase and figures, most of them get butthurt and say " No substance only graphics". Similar is the case when PC Games graphics comparison thread comes up. Seriously people need to stick with one thing instead of whining like shit.

I would cry :-( because The Division looks absolutely great but after what appears to have happened with Watch Dogs, it is now off my 'radar of hype', until near release with a 'prove to me first' attitude in my mind.

When it comes to games from Ubisoft, I really question the quality and there is something that I can't quite put my finger on.....

Assuming I can ignore my bias, it's like their games look good but are boring to play. Fetch quest this, fetch quest that. Been there/Done that. Only going to make games as long as they can make a Franchise out of them etc...

I'm not saying that they don't have their own unique ideas and some of their developers obviously have technical talent but their games feel like a 'jack of all trades but master of none'. Far Cry 3 put the nail in the coffin for me and typified exactly the 'thing I can't quite put my finger on'.

Having said all this, I thought Rayman Origins was decent but I shall not even be looking at Watch Dogs now - there will be many many other games that don't look generic, predictable, been there/done that, albeit with a new twist. Now before somebody says to me 'That's how all games are', I can only say 'I can't quite put my finger on it'.

I wonder if you can ghost the game and never kill anyone. Does anyone know if there are non lethal guns like tasers or tranquilizer pistols?

A decade ago, I would have gone absolutely bonkers for a game like this.

But now, it just makes me feel really, really tired. I feel like I know exactly how it will play out, what I'll spend my time doing moment to moment, how one element will blend into the next, how all of the features will overlap, etc. I've done all of this before in a million different ways in a million different settings.

It's pretty and polished as hell, but we desperately need a new paradigm for open world games.

This. I love open world games, but at this point I feel they pretty much found their standard model to conform to.

If that's an option, I might get back to being interested in this game as I love ghosting or going non-lethal in any game that makes it possible.

Still considering this as one of my PS4 launch purchases... but if it really does look way, way better on PC then I'm having second thoughts. I expect it to look better on PC, sure, just not as much as what it's turning out to be.

I've read a few pages in this thread I still don't understand what people are complaining about when comparing it to the first trailer from E3 many moons ago.

It looks like the same game to me? You can hack things, profile people, dynamic-ish chase scenes and it looks fantastic. All of that was in the first E3 demo so I can't see what has changed?

Some peeps are saying that it looks like a mix of tech from Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell and other Ubisoft products but how did the first demo not show that? I just don't understand what people expect from games these days and how opinions can change so drastically on a product that has been pretty much the same every time it has been shown.

I can understand some people feeling a little less hyped due to see the competition out there and such but to be from *ZOMG DAY ONE* *IN TO MY VIENSSSSS* to *BLAND 1/10* *$5 second hand deal plox*. I suppose all this is just hyperbole but it makes me disappointing to see such drastic opinions and no middle ground at all as it must be terribly hard for developers to decipher the comments to see what people actually don't like about the game.

I think Watchdogs still looks great and has enough variety in gameplay to differentiated itself from a other open world games. I have a very similar opinion than I did when it was first shown off the only difference for me is manage my budget so this might not be a day one title for me and the competition about. We have GTA in a few weeks abut I'm sure I'll be semi burnt out on that mid November time but then November is new console time which brings with it a game from most genres making it hard decide what to go for :D

I wonder what some of you think you saw shen this game was revealed? Except from the fact that the graphics is not on par with the reveal trailer, the gameplay looks just same. I had the SC, AC vibes from the first moment i learned about this game.

that's a pretty big deal

Graphics are less good than in previous demos or videos we've seen but the main concern I have is that it seems really repetitive and the whole thing lacks of life. It's just bland... I was looking for this game so I'm still hoping but for now I'm a sad panda :(

AC IV may do the same thing for me... so I'm not going to buy a lot of games this fall I guess. I don't buy EA games, now that I have Rayman there's no good Ubi games left. This left GTA V, Pupeteer, Tearaway and mostly Nintendo games.

Back at E3, end of the year looked so crowded and full of very good games. Now there's like 10 I may buy from now to the end of the year (knowing I have 4 systems it's not a lot imo). I'll have more money left for the PS4 / Xbox One next year :D

The gameplay has that distinct UBIfeel but it's alright with me. I'm looking forward to a new IP on my next gen console.

I wouldn't call it showing of a prototype 18 months from release, as was the case with Watch_Dogs, and probably also The Division.
Quite many things can change during that 18 months, when it was first shown, there were no eagle tower/radio tower/ctos server mechanics, no laughable reputation system, no pseudo-stealth. To be frank, I rather them not add these silly designs.

I think this then i think about how much fun I have just had with splinter cell blacklist. This game looks like it marry's all the best parts of other ubisoft games. I think black flag looks awesome, but after the ubisoft deal with nvidia, I'm getting everything on pc

A lot can change, totally agree. But not showing all of those mechanics in the reveal last year didn't mean that they weren't in there. They simply (and smartly) decided to just show the conceptual idea of the game, and what the player should feel when playing it.

And it worked out brilliantly for them. But I have no doubt that everything we see now was planned, coded and in some degree deployed last year.

To be fair they haven't really detailed the reputation system and there isn't really a similar system in AC or Far Cry in terms of decisions that apparently affect the generation reactions people will have towards you. It'll probably amount to little but I'm a hopeful person I suppose.

Still think this could turn out well despite some of the point bar trapping, if nothing else I expect the graphics to improve given every part of this video is months old but it's just been combined into one part. Plus even the gamesryde video looks really poor in terms of resolution so I'm thinking they gave a poor video out or something of that nature.

In any case, it's coming soon and I'm sure somewhere along the way people will get to preview the game and more will be shown off so we shouldn't have to wait long to have more information to judge the game on.

And I love drive-by postings like the one calling GTA bland and uninspired. If only all open world games(hell, all games) worked as hard as Rockstar in creating mechanically complex worlds with some of the most involved interaction out there.
