Hell, I'm going to boot up Zelda: Link to the Past in Retroarch right now and turn off all the audio channels apart from the one dealing with sound effects, and play that music in the background to get an idea of what it's like anyway.

I'm sure it'll be mindblowing.

Done. Went into Hyrule Magic, deleted a few tracks in the game and then matched up the recording to the music. Good stuff:

Saw the 64DD mentioned in another thread that reminded me of this interesting titbit. Mario Artist Polygon Studio is actually where the idea for Wario Ware originated and the first set of Microgames in the latter are based on the games found in the former (even the tape deck harks back to it).

I'm sure this has been mentioned before but it's one of those cool things one should know.

Yeah, I remember N64 Magazine actually commenting on this when they previewed WarioWare for the first time.

I have had one since early 2007, but I only just realized that the original standard Sixaxis PS3 controller was translucent! I was holding it in front of my phone's screen by accident and the whole controller glowed with light.

My Dual Shock 3 was not translucent, though.

It's kind of odd... The two controllers sat side by side for years and I always though they looked identical, so the actual design advantage of the Sixaxis' translucency is nearly trivial..

Just as the original PS3 (if i'm correct). Those were translucent too, right?

The fuck? Mind blowing since we never got this in America so I'd never have known, but even moreso because of the random Gamecube theme. I'm more impressed that Nintendo based an entire mini-game in Mario Paint 64DD based around their next system.

How did I miss this? Awesome.

AND it's a Gamecube with the Game Boy Player.

So I just found out that Steam has a secret multiplayer game that you can play. It's Spacewar. You just need to type steam://install/480 into a steam chat window and it gives you the option of installing it.

Has anyone ever tried it before? It looks fun.

I don't know if this is known or not, but you can control the specks of 'dust' on your PS3 screen with your sixaxis controller. Rotate it left/right and the specks will follow. When you move menu items up and down, specks will flow with that, too. You can spin your controller more than 360 degrees.

I was randomly looking up Mega Man stuff yesterday and the design for Oil Man seems incredibly racist.

The generic EDF soldier appears in a fighting game. D3's Simple 2000 Series Vol 91: All Star Fighters. The game is pretty bad, but an interesting one if you're a fan of D3's games such as EDF and Oneechanbara.

Corvo's LTTP thread about Xenogears had me thinking back. Remember the Xenogears OST?

That's not just a random collection of glyphs on the cover. Look at it this way:

Those numbers appear in the HUD you see when piloting the Gears, though I don't think they mean anything there, and you can pick up on them when you visit Solaris. When Fei is in that street with the hexagon-shaped living quarters, you can see that the pod groups are numbered 11, 12, 13, and 14. (Since the number 1 looks like a double-1, I first thought they went from right to left, and that they were 11A, 11B, and 11C until I saw the fourth one. 4 looks like an A, 3 looks like a B, and 2 could maybe pass for a C. But then it becam clear how you're really supposed to read them.)

People still bring up Jynx? Pretty sure it's been established that the dark skins is an exaggeration of the Ganguro look.

That's pretty cool! So even Xenogears has a fictional alphabet (well, numbering system)...

I actually remember finding this exit by accident on my very first play through that level as a child.
At the time I though oh cool, but actually I really hate this type of secret because it really doesn't require any thought. When a game accepts this type of secret as a norm then the entire game becomes a fucking hunt for a needle in a hay stack.

Thats one of the reasons I'm not so keen on the New Super Mario series. I don't want to have to jump and against every fucking inch of the game to find an invisible wall, thats just cheap.

Simply awesome find, for some reason thinking back to when I was 5 it scares the hell out of my inner child that Mario could actually be in a massive drain pipe in some abyss 0_0

All I have to share on this subject is this Golden Sun the Lost Age out of bounds World Map Glitch I found years back.

Oh man, I wouldn't be able to live with that image of Lucca. Horrible, I'm sorry you had to play the entire game looking at her like that. :p

Japan is not as racially sensitive as America is, so sometimes, african americans in anime end up looking what we would define as racist

They're getting better about it, though

Anecdotally, I went on a week long vacation to Japan a couple summers ago. It is definitely a country that is extremely racially homogenized. I saw some white people, but I didn't see any black people. Not a single one.

It would not surprise me if the only time some Japanese ever see a single black person is on TV.
