You believe the show is an exercise in justifying Walt's behavior? I find that absolutely bizarre. You are supposed to see Walt as a bad guy. The show is literally explaining why and how Walt has become bad.

...as i said in my original post, no main character on the show is wholly good or bad.

He's not completely bad. As evidenced by some of the things last night. But you have people thinking he was going to kill holly, these people are asleep at the wheel or just completely missing the complexities of the character.

Someone can be a bad guy and do good things, and conversely someone can be a good guy and do bad things. Nothing in this show is black and white, yet people are acting like it is.

Haha, whatever dude. They should have called the show Breaking Badass because that's exactly what Walt is. Fuck Skyler, TEAM WALT.

Please note that I don't actually understand the show or it's subtleties or its message, I just like Walt's mean face and pithy one-liners.

Lmao. Perfect.

Didn't Walt set a trap at Brock and his mom's house earlier that day for Jesse? And the Nazis were waiting outside for him to show up, knowing those two were the bait?

Indeed. First Jesse's heard of it though, only Hank heard the phonecall.

I think Todd's plan the whole time was to force Jess to show him how to cook. Todd seems to have become obsessed with cooking. I wouldn't be surprised if Todd is doing all of this behind his uncle's back. If it were up to Jack he would have just put a bullet in Jesse's skull and buried him with Gomez and Ballsack. He's got $70 million he probably doesn't care about cooking so much anymore.
Pretty sure Todd is obsessed with Lydia, not cooking. Ballsack is pretty awesome.

Scrooged

Totally wronger about Nintendo's business decisions.
You guys, one thing I'm having trouble is seperating Walt's regard for Jesse and Hank. He described both as family and was resistant to both of their deaths, but he could be reasoned into killing Jesse for self preservation. Hank, on the other hand, was an untouchable even after Hank did catch him. In the desert scene, Walt says nothing to Hank about his capture, but openly resents Jesse for colluding with Hank.

What seperates the two in his mind, when they're both suppose to be 'family'?

Easy. Jesse is 'like family', but Hank actually IS family. I'm sure Walt rationalizes things like this to himself. Also, deep down Walt has no respect for Jesse. In his mind Jesse should be happy for what he's done for him. Of course Walt doesn't seem to realize how mentally abusive he's been to Jesse.

So what was up with the picture of Brock and his mom hanging in the warehouse where Jesse is cooking now? I loved how he saw it from far away, and the camera pointing in that direction, but you had no idea what he was looking at until it got closer.

A threat. They know about Brock and his mom, and if Jesse doesn't do what is asked of him, they'll be killed.

That and, I think Walt projects himself on to Jesse. Jesse represents his failures. The fact that Jesse had potential, and squandered it. And I think Walt also views himself as someone that gave Jesse all this opportunity, and he didn't take it.

Walt is a sick individual.

I really like Todd he is the scariest son of a bitch out there. I love how he just doesnt give a shit. He is not even agressive at all. He just does everything with a blank souless stare.

Like how he was being polite by getting Jesse out of that pit only to chain him up and confront him with a picture of Brock and his mom.

With a energized "Lets cook!" along the way.

So how come no one is still talking about the Nazi crew being horrible shots lol?

What a horrible week that was, that was all people would talk about.

Gomie isn't dead. Gomie was just sleeping through the Nazis' pathetic attempts to take him down.

Gomie shall rise again :-(

My wife caught up this afternoon because she was working last night.

She legit texted me saying she thought there was gonna be a scene where Hank wasn't really dead and dug himself out of the dirt.

I contemplated divorce for the first time today.

To be fair, Hank is a tank.

The issues of no one being entirely bad or entirely good has nothing to do with people bending over backward to explain why Walt's behavior is really, actually good. Walt does bad things and then some people here try to explain to everyone else why he had to do it to protect other people or how he was only ever thinking of poor Walt Jr. Responding to criticism of this demonstration of poor reasoning ability with "it's only a show guys!" makes no sense whatsoever. It's a sign the person has no idea what's being discussed.

Gomez and Shrader are pretty bad shot too, right? I guess they were scared because they were outgunned, because Hank usually has amazing aim (see Tuco, Axe guy)

It's also really insulting to the show and television as a medium. "It's only a book, why should we seriously and critically analyze literature?"

I think he meant, how did they get that picture - that soon after capturing him. Either the Nazis had done intel on him prior. Or after they had Jesse captured and tortured, one of them went out and snapped a picture.

Better question is how they set up the chain pulley in that time as well. My guess is that some time passed between his capture and when we saw him in the pit. Gives them the time to set up the chain and do surveillance on Jesse's 'weakness'

OK this really brought back the feels. Damn it Cornballer :(

agree to disagree. I just think the team crap is annoying, especially the "this is what teamwalt actually believes" come the fuck on.

Just digs himself up like The Undertaker. Final episode sees dirt-covered Hank approach Heisenberg. Surprise motherfucker.

It seemed like a garage or something, didn't it? A chain pulley doesn't seem all that out of place...

Todd thinks he can get into bed with Lydia if he improves the cooking. That's all he's motivated by. He doesn't give a shit about Jesse. Just wants the meth to be better so that he can get more of that lipstick on a mug.

This episode put my heart in fucking rusty barbed wired vise and never stopped tightening. Loved every single spine scrunching second.

That phone call scene is some of the best acting I've seen in a long time.

From Bryan Cranston. Why Anna Gunn had a big smile on her face the whole time I have no idea, but she's like that in all crying scenes I guess.

There's nothing wrong with critically analyzing literature or movies. Comparing #TeamWalt to sociopathic puppy-kickers who are too dumb to understand the show on the other hand is laughable.

It's insane how hanks death was overshadowed by everything else that proceeded it. I kind of wish that Hank went out as a badass. One minute is just an extraordinary scene where hank would have gone out like a champ. He still does in his episode but I wish there was more fight in him.

He actually said that about her? Thats kinda condescending.

Edit: Nevermind, i thought you were saying Bryan Cranston said that about Anna Gunn.

Hank absolutely went out like a badass. He caught Heisenberg, lovingly called his wife, and went out like a man, not cowering and begging like Walt wanted him to and would've in his situation.

Thinking about it, they could have easily EASILY made two 13 episode seasons of S5 and S6 instead of a 16 episode S5.

I still believe AMC royally fucked Vince over and Vince is just being nice in public because he is a goddamn gentleman.

Yeahhhh

I fee like people are taking things too far when it comes to the morality of this show. Because, it is a show. I'm pretty sure if this was real life, like an actual news story - most of these people would not be rooting for Walt. He's a stylized fictional character, who's journey we've been through.

I also believe those that try to justify Walt's actions to make him a hero, are doing so more of out being conditioned by the usual protagonist role/formula in fiction, and aren't doing so because they have deeply rooted psychological problems. I think it's hard for people to connect to a story, where the man character is 100% unlikable and with no redeemable aspects. I think a lot of people are struggling with this, and thus are having a hard time moving away from Walt.

wha? Hank went out like a badass. The "ASAC Schraeder" line topped it off.
